The fact that they paid just to get clearance on the song for the sake of the entire sketch is absolutely worth it. And while I always thought the lyrics were super cringe, this skit does an incredible job at illustrating this. And how also it means vastly different things to different people. Due to Jim Crow, non-whites had to exit any whites-only space through a separate entrance, which was usually an act of humiliation to emphasize their supposed inferiority. However, the joke was that his song was so cringe that rule actually works in their favor because of the embarrassment; not wanting ANYONE to know that they know these people is a bonus.

The back door in my part of Europe is still often colloquially referred to as 'the tradesman's entrance'. Traditionally tradespeople wouldn't dare ring the front door bell.
