@a5cent2 ай бұрын
@@gizmo104drives7 H FoV is its main weakness IMHO. Lack of eye-tracking comes in second. I agree on that, but I think you are too quick to judge on the rest. You are buying the OLED panel of course, but the main thing this has going for it is the optical stack and lens adjustability, and how easy it is to share, even for those with eyesight issues. Compared to everything else out there, it is amazing (at least on paper). No inside-out tracking? Good! Makes it smaller, lighter, cooler and it makes tracking more accurate. No integrated audio, but perfectly designed to allow for other headphones? Good! I can use my own which are 10x better than any integrated audio solution. Some of this comes down to whether you value convenience over quality, and it's okay to come down on either side.

Yeah BSB is a no go for me. The glare is awful. The other issue is it’s so darn dark even at 140% cranked up, which then makes the glare even worse. The facial interface is custom and neat but being so form fitting I find it makes my face hot and I have to regularly pull it away from my face to let me eyes and skin breath. You do need to try it for yourself though to know if it’s a good or no go. I never got use to the glare!

I absolutely love my beyond and always end up in it for siming. I’ve been using openXR toolkit for super sampling but since it’s not really being supported into the future I’m wondering if I should change. Are you using the beyond with openXR still and are you using the toolkit to do the over sampling? Also what amount of over sampling are you doing? I’ve been playing with different amounts versus fps on my 4090.

As you and many others have mentioned so many times, the glare is a issue. Once you use any headset for a while (a couple weeks), your brain will compensate for the glare and you'll get to a point of no longer seeing it, same with older HMD's SDE. If you can ignore the glare and godrays of the OG Vive and especially the Valve Index, then I'm sure the BSB will be child's play to ignore its glare. I don't have a BSB but have heard so much about it's glare and then remember how long it took me to get use to the glare and godrays of the Index (The King of glare and godrays! LOL). I got a Crystal Light a couple months ago and am enjoying that at this time, it's a pain in the butt to tame (lowering res to get performance) but even at lower res, it looks amazing in Racing Sims and MSFS 2020. 7800X3D, 4090, 64gigs DDR5 (6000 @ cl30), Win 10 22H2. Even these hardware specs and still have to lower settings to get good fluid play. LOL Just hoping MSFS 2024 is better optimized for VR so the frame rate can be increased. 🤞

One thing that is VERY important to me is how easy and especially consistent the headset to Windows PC connectability is. The Quest 3 via Link cable is for me very on and off: one day the pc recognizes it being connected to USB and there's a little 'ding' - the next day, with nothing known to be different, there's no sign of a USB connection when the headset is turned on and plugged in. Doesn't matter how good the visual is if the interface is flakey.

I sold my BSB on eBay no problem for 650.00. I have tested and owned pimax CL, aero, BSB and q3 and felt the BSB glare and small sweet spot made it less viable than the pimax light or quest 3. I returned my pimax light bc it was too big, hot and uncomfortable and the software was buggy. I find the quest 3 has the best overall ease of use especially if you’re running wireless 6E dedicated router and virtual desktop. The clarity isn’t as good but the sweet spot is much larger and the graphics are good enough in my opinion. I’ll be giving the meganex a close look after people have used it for a while to ensure the software is not buggy.

Same here. We bought it with friends from reservation queue so we should have got them long time ago. Artur (the CEO) says he is going to factory to solve problems and perform testing but after first very small batch the second one is few weeks late and he brags about participating in some marketing event. It's not the first occurence when by a "coincidence" the delays happen just as he organizes or participates in event which point is to show the VR1. Lack of specific shipping information or proper order queue makes us uncomfortable. We have no way to verify whether the order of fulfillment is actually correct. At the moment we and some other customers we talked with lately in Breachers lobby have suspicion that there may be some production offloading on the side for business customers and regular customers are being left in the dust of low priority queue.

Switching back and forth between aespheric headsets and pancake headsets is pretty much the worst case scenario for being bothered by pancake glare. Aespherics have _zero_ glare or god rays. It's a strong aspect for them. But aespherics get chromatic aberration and geometric distortion instead, where these are almost none with pancakes. If you just stay with one headset/lens type, your brain will eventually just delete its weaknesses from your vision. Just giving it 2-3 weeks since you last used an aespheric headset is not enough for this to fully set in.

Hey Steve, another great informative video as always! I have a question which is slightly off topic although you do mention it a couple of times during the video, that is, photogrammetry. When I enable it I pretty much always still get the nuclear holocaust effect with horribly distorted melted buildings I am wondering if this is due to internet bandwidth during load up or pc hardware limitations? It's very frustrating when I see how good it can look but unfortunately I have to turn it off when over urban areas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ps: I have a 4070 ti coupled with a Ryzen 7 78003XD and 32gb DDR5.

Perhaps you could mention where you get your scenery from when flying over areas that aren't stock MSFS plus world and city updates?

Plus I don't hang around apple users so I wouldn't be able to do the face scan.

After reading more of the comments here - I will chime in with another one myself. If you compare the price, the BSB is still an absolute steal against the Somnium which comes from at least double the price if you count in the investment for the base stations and controllers that the BSB requires. In daylight scenes, the glare is absolutely minimal and even during night time - I have gotten so used to the headset, that I only notice it, when I consciously look for it - I fully agree with Steve's accurate description of this phenomenon and I can second this. In DCS I have no noticeable glare at all during normal daylight hours. A lot of people get the face scan and their IPD measurements wrong: I can recommend doing the face scan in a very well lit room against a white wall and getting a proper IPD measurement from a certified optometrist for referencing. I have a face gasket that fits to my face perfectly and they also got the IPD settings perfectly. I am of older generation and wear multifocal glasses - it was absolutely no issue adapting to the BSB as we multifocal wearers are used to moving or heads instead of just our eyes. I can not imagine or even want to wear any of those "toasters" like Pimax or Somnium ever. I have done long range flights with the BSB with short breaks in between and for me it feels really natural. The BSB is a special custom headset - sure not everyone may like it but for those that do, there will not be any other interesting replacement soon because current hardware can not handle full resolution with ultimate quality settings. Another thing people forget is their monthly electricity bills running 1000watts/hr systems.

I get that they make a custom face mold for the BSB... why can't they make a universal mold for it? I'd buy it if I could share it with others in my household. That's the biggest weakness of it for me. I know a universal mold wouldn't be as good, but at least others could use the headset too. How much is it for extra custom molds, and how hard would it be to swap them? Ah wait.. of course.. I forgot the BSB IPD cannot be adjusted! Bummer. =D
