Ford 5000 Tractor: Flushing the steering system hydraulics

Since it had been years since the hydraulic fluid was changed, and before I install the rebuilt steering valve, I decided to try my best at getting as much of the old fluid out.

Some hydraulic pumps have internal bypass valves.

hey steve great job but the steering system on a ford tractor takes hydraulic fluid not power steering fluid the power steering fluid is to thin and may be why it’s leaking

I have a old Ford 3610 that I am trying to get going again, and I have oil coming out at the steering wheel. The oil is real contaminated with water and I will have to flush the whole system. Thanks for the video! I was just thinking when I worked on trucks I would raise the front end a little to get the front tires off the ground; to make it easier to turn to get the air out of the system, this might have helped since you are having to wait on a steering wheel, and having to turn it with a screwdriver.

Thanks. I am progressing along pretty well. The one hiccup I have had is I have had to buy an aftermarket steering wheel, because the deep dish style wheel on the row crops with tilt steering is a rare part.

Where's the fun in that? Seriously though, this tractor is too tall to drive into most standard garages
