For anyone doing this project, you may find it worth while to just order new upper and lower pans ahead of time as well. Both are cemented on with silicone and the lower pan bends easily. Both pans totaled $350 locally here and easily saved me 2 hours worth of trying to get the old silicone off. I believe they also recommend replacing the flexplate bolts and pay special attention to bolt pattern and torque specs.

That caulking gun is the business. I use it to apply loctite 515 to flanges in large castings . Found out that the 1 setting was plenty . And when you reach a stopping point let off the trigger and give it a couple of quick taps to retract better

Interesting to see how other dealerships tackle these oil leaks. At my dealer, we reseal the front cover as the leak originates from the front-driver side of the engine usually an inch or so above the upper oil pan. But we don't replace the upper oil pan. Although as tempting as it is with all the cleaning.

I always just pull the engine, throw it on a stand, drop the lower pan, and flip it. I've tried doing front cover with engine in and cab down several times and actually took me longer, and much less "enjoyable" lol.

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod yeah sounds ludicrous I know. But much easier I find. Especially with that clearance spec. So you've found that the front left corner leak is coming from the pan and not the bottom of the front cover huh? Maybe next one I'll do just the upper pan (in cab) and see how that rolls. I have found, on occasion, that clearance spec at the bottom of front cover to be incorrect though.

Besides that, what else would you recommend be done if I were have the upper done? rear crank seal, etc. If I bite the bullet to have it done, would like to everything I can get done with all that labor. Trans went dry when I first got it and it sometimes acts up, found and ball and spring on the first change so was thinking I would have that done too. Keep up the great work on these videos.

Just had my warranty upper pan faulty silicone repair done on our 2019 F 250 6.7. Service was nice enough to let me look up in there when she was all torn apart. Lot of black sooty oil to dry up and clean. I saw all the cleaners and prep that is mandatory to get it done right. So far so good on the repair. A Airsteam pull from Florida to Ohio and back should be good news or not. I made sure no rush they had all the time they wanted to drip out clean and let the new silicone cure. I do have a question can you comment on the 6.7 typewriter tick that is more prevalent after an oil change. Ford Oil and Filter or Amsoil Syn Oil and Filter same noise. Ford says normal but what is it? Sound is like an old school lcollapsed lifter.
@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod 4 жыл бұрын
That is definitely a noise characteristic of a 6.7 liter, there's nothing you're gonna do to repair it it is just in normal noise characteristic of that engines as the soundl transfers through the metal

I know this video is old, but i have 2 questions: 1. Why did you have to replace the whole upper oil pan? Wasn't it enough to clean the existing one and apply new silicone to it? 2. This is unrelated to the repair. Whats your opinion on surface rust on an iron block? Do you need to worry about it long term? Or the engine won't rot away?

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod 1. That is kind of sad, lol. 2. I wonder why they dont paint the blocks at the factory. They could paint them blue as to match the blue oval theme. Just like Caterpillar paints their engines yellow or Volvo paints their engines dark green. Would be a great idea to prevent the rust.

…..and THIS is one job, I have read about needing to be done on a few 6.7s that I have NEVER had to do yet, and hoping I never will have to do!!! By the way, the truck in that video appears to be a 2015/16 model year by the EGR cooler coolant hose routing. Watching this video gives he the heebee geebees about keeping a hawk's eye on my own engine in that very area, and knock wood, it still appears to be BONE DRY (I change my oil every 3K miles [5K kms]). Interesting that you pull the transmission, and now after watching the video I understand why it's required for this repair. Even more interesting is the engine doesn't appear to need to be lifted up. So the upper oil pan clears?
