Dude, thank you for this video. I'm about to put a locker in the 3.55 rear end I took from a P71 (thought all 3.55s for the police interceptors were lockers, I was wrong) and this video will help a lot. Thank you again!

So yes all 3.55’s on the P71’s are lockers from the factory you are correct. It’s possible that your trac lock is worn out, or someone swapped the wrong differential into the car if it’s an open diff with the cover removed. Should be a tag on the differential to tell what it actually is.

Hey man I just wanna say thank you for making this video ! I really do appreciate it I've been searching the web for a video like this for ford specific and this is the closest I found. I have a lightning swapped Expedition with a 9.75 3.31 open diff and I just bought a used but new refreshed diff from a Lincoln Navigator 3.73 LSD 9.75 I was gonna just swap the differential but I found this to be easier. I cant wait for quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile time.

👍. Those parking brake shoes are a mother to change with the axle flange in the way. I didn't remember to change them when I did the axle seals and cursed the whole time getting the springs on. And that was before I got the axle under the truck. Sometimes it's the little thing that get yah. Truck sounds good ripping around. We're running Mickey ET streets and the grab nice

Thanks man. Hopefully I will remember to swap them out when I do the c clip eliminators. I'm either going with ET streets or the nitto 555 r2s.

Nice install. If you want an easy way to raise your part throttle shift points (and increase part throttle line pressure to save your clutch plates from all that low speed torque), there is an easy mod to do to the TV lever on the trans. Hold throttle wide open and measure the TV lever to a point on the trans to get a reference of where WOT is. Remove the TV lever, grind the weld off that holds the ball on, then drill a new hole on very end of lever, install the ball and tack weld. This will increase the ratio of lever and make the trans think your giving more throttle than you are and increase line pressure faster. Install lever and adjust it to at the TB to the same overall WOT as before you took it off. Part throttle shifts will raise (part throttle line pressure will increase faster), but redline shifts will stay the same (as will line pressure).

Governor lever, you mean TV lever? We could be talking about the same thing, I just haven’t heard it called that before. You moved the pivot ball out to the end and it helped?

@@michaelowen6197 yes tv lever lol. My bad. Yes moved to the end and got greedy so I moved it slightly forward as well.

Love it! My n/a '99 Dak R/T has the factory 3.92s and I'm going 392 stroker (.040" over 318 block) and I think it's going to be perfect, RPM wise. Already have long tube 1-3/4" headers and SpinTech mufflers and the 5.9 is feeling pretty lame..LOL

Cool vid 😊👍 Holy Krap!! the races spun! 😱😱 lol goodbye carrier bearing pre-load. not measuring backlash made me cringe dude. lol 😅
@thomasbeyer Жыл бұрын
Why do you think the carrier bearings aren't preloaded? Factory shims factory carrier factory axle. The shims had to be pressed in the same as factory...... Lol 😂. IV built enough axles to know what backlash should feel like. It's not an aftermarket set if it feels within range it will be fine there's no point in checking it any closer.

@@thomasbeyer I want to know more about that str4 MAP sensor and what it does and also a bit more about the tuning process. I think I'll be able to supercharge my jeep but I'd be lost when it comes to tuning. Is the tuning process necessary for running low boost and would it be something I can do on my own?
@thomasbeyer2 жыл бұрын
@@ryanjharri115 if your running low boost I suggest the Honda map sensor and at least 36lb injectors and you need tuning to keep.it safe. I do remote tuning with hptuners if you need someone to tune it.

Do you need to break in a new diff without a new pinion and ring gear i just wanted the posi but im scared to burnout because of all tbis break in talk
@thomasbeyer10 ай бұрын
Nah if you are using a used ring and pinion you don't need the break it in for the gears. If the posi is new and clutch type you may give it small break in so the friction modifier can work it's way into the fluid and clutches properly but that's about it. If it's used too then slap it in and give it hell it'll be fine as long as the backlash and pattern looks good.
