Wow, I had never heard of the shims for the caliper. I had my rear end rebuilt with 4.10s and a 31 spline setup. Babied the car for over 1000 miles before trying them out. A few months later I'm getting what sounds like metal on metal grinding from the rear. Definitely rotational and it sounds like it's at wheel speed. Doesn't show it's face till I get up to speed (around 30mph) but once it does, even when I creep to a stop I can hear the grinding, basically sounds like it's hitting at a specific point, not constantly. I'm thinking something in the rear is shot but I'd never heard of spacing the caliper brackets out. Might be worth checking out. Great video though man, thanks!!!!

Good video overall however things to note, You can re use the crush sleeve! despite popular opinion to not, take the old crush sleeve slide it onto a socket that fits the inside diameter. On a hard bench use a hammer and rotate the sleeve while tapping with a decent amount of force around the sleeve to slowly cause it to increase its width, THIS SAVES a lot of grief. Removal of carrier bearings is easy if you have the ability to remove the ring gear (make sure you mark location if re using, not completely necessary but a good practice) use some large cutting pliers to cut the bearing cage and remove the roller bearings. Use of a press and or air hammer + torch (wear eye protection) will remove the race off the carrier. Installing them is also simple the use of a seal driver with old race and a big hammer gets the job done (hit like a man).

How do you know which gear ratio is best without experimenting? My understanding is that traction could be an issue if you're using a supercharger.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage6 ай бұрын
There are a lot of factors. Tire size can even be one of them as it will change the overall ratio. A 4.10 in my mach 1 is great for all motor but with enough HP from a supercharger on my cobra and you want to push a slightly harder gear. Even transmission gearing plays a key role. Most transmissions on these cars have a 1:1 ratio for 4th. I found with 4.10s it ended each gear about 10 mph lower than the factory mach 1 3.55s. If the 1/4 mile is your goal and you’ll want to make sure you’re not shifting right before the end of the quarter mile. I will also say though that my mach 1 surprised me how well it pulls in 5th gear. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKKmqJWvlJqtha8si=4hpqMspkX3nXxGuC

Hey I need some help. My rear end feels really sloppy when going over imperfections on the road, it pulls left or right and I have to be precise with the steering. It’s a 2002 mustang gt, why does it do that. Also I have too much negative toe in the rear, my friend at the alignment shop said that the axle are bent. Please help if you can
@dannyjohnsonsgarage5 жыл бұрын
I would look at the bushings on the control arms. If they are worn they could cause both the sloppy feeling and the bad alignment. It’s unlikely the axle is bent, but if so it would be your best option to get a whole new one from. salvage yard and swap it in.

@dannyjohnsonsgarage2 жыл бұрын
If all you are doing is the ring and pinion you could leave it, but as you’ll see in the complete video series for this it’s a good idea to replace the seal if you also redo the races and everything the master bearing kits come with. Cody Koala The clutch issue may be the throwout bearing or some trannsision bearings for those gears going bad. You’ll need to remove the transmission either way. The rear end seal you’ll need to fix before it ruins the wheel bearings and differential bearings kzbin.info/www/bejne/gofWlaqpnZmon8U

Do a few heat cycles gently accelerating to 60, and let the car slow down gradually. Take it for a drive for 20 minutes and let it cool completely. Make sure you have friction modifier. Try not to stay at one constant speed if possible. Some people just go out and beat the heck out of them

Hey Danny, I've been having a hard time finding some info, i need to rebuild my differential in my 03 cobra, but can't seem to find the kit i need, is there one you recommend or could link me?
