Thank you very much for sharing this video. I was speculating weather my pressure readings indicated a worn compressor or if I had a possible restriction in one of my ac hoses. The ambient temperature at the time was 89 degrees with 49% humidity. According to the manufactures specifications at the time of testing the low side should be between 28-41 psi and 193-261 psi for the high side. I had the engine running at 2000 RPM's and the center vent temperature wouldn't go lower than 60 degrees on MAX AC. My pressure readings were 60 psi for the lo side and 205 for the Hi side. I'll check to see how much resistance it takes to turn the clutch by hand.

Thanks for the video, I'm definitely going to be diagnosing my F150 before I break down and take it to someone. I've been suspecting the A/C wasn't working well for a while, but when I went to add more refrigerant the gauge said it was full. Now I suspect something else isn't working properly, and it's also started to sound like there's a leaf in the blower, so perhaps there will be multiple issues to work through.

If there was a catastrophic failure yes but otherwise most compressor manufacturers just want you to check and clean the vehicles metering device and replace the receiver drier because of the acids otherwise you are just wasting your money.

4:18 the clutch was turning by itself. I'd say that's pretty worn out lol. I just picked up an 05 Town Car two months ago. Just now realizing the AC wasn't blowing cold. Didn't need it. Clutch engages and gauge shows full charge. Never new this little trick of turning the clutch with no resistance. Sure enough, I can turn it as easily as the one you're showing. Which also solves my AC issue on my 01 F150 that wouldn't take a charge. I had to jump the relay to engage the clutch but still wouldn't take a charge. I can turn the clutch on that compressor too. Looks like I've got two compressor replacement jobs in my future. Great video as always

Love your informative videos. My 2014 Escape blows nice and cool except on hot and humid days (GA climate) at engine idle. I had the system recharged by the dealership and replaced the evap sensor with the new angular one recommended by the TSB. Airflow thru the pollen filter is good too. Any ideas of possible problems? I noticed that the liquid line pipe that’s next to the pollen filter cover was very hot - too hot to touch. Is this normal? Thanks

Hey thanks for making the video! I have used a few of these to resolve issues with my own 2011 Escape. I do have a question for you regarding the AC. Basic symptoms ... AC blows very cold, but only when it wants to. I find that the closer it gets to 30Celcius, the less likely it is to work. When it stops working the fan is still blowing but all I get is hot air. Every once in a while it may or may not get cold for a minute of two and then stops again. Any ideas? From what I have found online with this issue, it involves replacing the whole system which I am hoping is not true. Thanks again!

First off, you make great videos! I have a question about disinfecting hvac boxes. What do you think about the Kool It Foam cleaning system and systems like it? I have a 2009 Explorer and my throat gets itchy and I cough when I turn my heat on. I want to start at home with a good cleaning before I search again for a shop to do the work. I've tired 4 shops and no one has a clue of how to clean out the system. One mechanic recommended a detail shop may have the equipment.\ needed. Ozone systems are used at a rental car company near me to remove the smell of smoke. I hear Ozone also disinfects. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Makuloco love all your videos! Hoping you can offer some help. I have a 2008 Ford escape hybrid, ac not blowing cold at all. I’m getting 35psi on the low side and 75psi on the high side while it’s running. Compressor is engaged and running. The pressures do not equalize when I shut the engine down. The low side moves up to like 42psi, the high side stays at 75psi. Could the passenger compartment bypass solenoid have anything to do with this? Is there a way to test that or bypass it? Appreciate whatever advice you can offer

Hey, I ove your videos!!! I was hoping to get some help xD My AC would stop working when it was really hot outside (middle of the day). I bought some manifold guages and the pressure is reading 70PSI on the LOW side and 325PSI on the High Side. Based on all the videos, these numbers seem to high. Now this truck was purchased used and the clutch air gap needed to be adjusted. The AC is working but it's not cold enough. Could this be a failing compressor? Thanks!

Enjoy your videos. So, if I can easily spin the compressor's clutch plate with my little finger on my son's 07 Mazda 6 w 150k mi, would you consider that (a) a catastrophic failure or (b) can I just have the system evacuated, replace the compressor and receiver-drier, then recharge it and call it good for another 150k? Thanks!

I have a 2002 Sport Trac which has a FS-10 Compressor. Air blows cold (40 deg) at speed, but it warms up (60 deg) when I stop. I have checked my charge and topped it off a couple of times over the years. 3-4 years ago, I replaced the orifice screen. I also replaced the fan clutch (my truck has a belt driven fan). And I also removed a shim from the compressor clutch because my air would sometimes just start blowing out hot even at speed. I am suspicious that maybe the compressor just isn't pumping as much refrigerant thru the system as it used to. If I rev up the engine to 2000 rpm or so, it gets better, but not great. 2 minutes after I take off, it will cool down to 40 degrees and stay there as long as I'm moving. Seems to do the same if the AC is on max or regular. The truck does have 300,000 miles on it and I am still running the original compressor.

First off great video, I just suscribed to your channel. Now to my AC mystery, here are the specifics. 1998 Honda CRV, Low side 40PSI, High side 175PSI, both cooling fans turn on when AC is on. AC is ice cold at idle but compressor turns off while driving(verified with diagnostic tool), replaced ac clutch relay and high pressure switch but the issue still remains, no leak in system. Have you seen this symptom before? Thanks.

hi, I have a cousins 94 Honda accord, I've completely flushed the evaporator core when I replaced the expansion valve and drier. did a full vacuum for 45 mins and waited 40 mins to confirm there were no leaks. the manual calls for 21.2-22.9 oz of r134a, so I charged it with 22ozs (used a refrigerant scale with my 30lb tank - no I'm not a pro, just a serious DYIer with a love for tools and car repair). I have a vent door problem cuz the passenger side vent blows about 10° cooler than the rest, but still only get 61° on the cooler vent on an 84° weather and +/- 60% humidity. sometimes when I first start the a/c the clutch on the compressor won't disengage running it constantly, so I cycle it on & off and then it starts and stops as it should. readings appear normal, 35/150 for low/high respectively to 40/175. revving up the engine to 2000rpm if it's really hot outside it'll go to 55/220 respectively. I cleaned the condenser with a condenser foaming cleaning solution, pressures went down a to 35/175, but no change in vent temp. I believe the pressure switch works properly. once, I revved it up to 2500rpm and the pressure rose to almost 300psi, then it went back down. (it also was rising to 300psi constantly before and I could hear the pressure relieving, which led to my replacing the expansion valve for a. new one. A/C fan turns on when the compressor clutch engages. static pressure with engine off is 75low & 110 high. is this a worn out compressor or what else do you think it might be? Thanks for your input, great videos.

Thanks for the video. I just bought a used F150 and the ac wasn't working at all. They fixed it before I actually bought the truck. It used to be super cold. But there was a loud hissing coming from the compressor for about 15-20 seconds after turning the truck off. After a while the hissing got really low and It's not cooling as good as it used to. I'm getting 60 degrees out of the vents. So its not completely warm but I wouldn't say it cold. There is definitely something wrong, right?

I’m running like 100 degree ambient, 50-55 low side, 250-280 high side but I can’t get my vent temperature less than 55-60 when it’s this hot. Under 80 ambient it does 40-45f. Bryan when I remove the dust cap from the high pressure side of my 07 edge I hear a momentary burst of gas and the valve is oily. I checked because I'm losing freon every 6 months. No one has been able to find leak. I mentioned what I thought was a leaky valve to the last place that charged the system and they said they'd change it. I want there so not sure if the did. I removed the dust cap to check and I heard the bust of has again. Is there any AC problem that can cause a good valve to leak or was I just dooped?

Where can we find an ambient temp/to pressure chart to help determine what are readings should be based on ambient temps?
@derekdlick2516
@derekdlick2516 6 жыл бұрын
Google sporlan p/t chart. R-134 usually for the low side should be two psi above your target evaporator temp. If you want a 40 degree evaporator about 42 psi is what you want. Evaporator temps usually stay in that ball park unless there is problem higher cabin temps will have a high e psi rating hotter days will have a higher psi reading. Condenser temps and psi change a lot and outside directly effects this. There is about a 10 psi difference in refrigerant temp for r-134 that high on the p/t chart. As a rule of thumb you want the condenser temp to be 2 degrees plus your sub cooling temp about the outdoor temp. In this video he has low high side pressure and high side pressure the compressor isn't squeezing enough heat out so the system has a low sub cooling temp which results in a higher super heat temp which is raising the low side pressure because it allowed to evaporate more than it should

Low side on my kia optima with a clutchless variable displacement compressor is reading high at idle rpm speeds...around 90 psi or so....if I bump up and keep the rpms at around 2500 it will drop to 70 and I will get cold air in the cab... Do you think I should get my hands on a pressure gauge to test high side too to confirm it is low and compressor is problem? I am thinking either compressor is worn or possibly even the solenoid valve in the compressor is stuck only allowing so much refrigerant in...not the amount needed to build up the compression and suction...

My ac builds pressure when empty and if i try to put freeon in, the low side jumps pretty high and into the red section in the gage. I can put enough for the compressor to start, it cycles on and off like it should but i can not reach the desired amount because like i said, it shows high pressure. The cycling switch is new, the switch on the high side also works. I checked relays, all good. Orifice tube was dirty but i cleaned it with air intake cleaner. Should i replace it? Not sure why the system is building pressure, i thought maybe a clog and when i saw the tube dirty, the only thing i can't check is the evapo, it has a case and seems like a hassle to take off. I went around through the system blowing air throug, I blew air though the evaporator and the air went through it fine, both ways. I hope that's ok. I read maybe a weak compressor, I looked for leaks. I think some pressure builds up when the compressor is off but it gets higher when it turns on...🤔

So I have an expedition low side is 35, high side 150 but doesn't blow cold. Last summer the front dash stopped and today the rear stopped working. I'm under the impression the compressor is fine, but the pressure gauges really don't move more than 1lb over 15 min with ac on max. Any ideas?

I have a question, I have a 2004 Expedition I just put a new compressor on. The system calls for 14oz of PAG 46. Now that I have put the oil in I don't have enough room for freon. What do I do now

Are there any electronic components that can fail? I have good pressures and I hear and can see the compressor knocking on and off, but it’s just hot air coming out.. also we just replaced the old refrigerant with fresh new stuff

I'm about to change the ac system on a '03 Expedition XLT 4.6L. It makes sounds when the air is blowing, hissing sounds on top of not blowing any cold air. Any ideas as of why? My guess is that is related to the AC directly, but I could be wrong. (have never done this before)

my daughter has a 2005 f150, it has 200k miles on it, but runs great. lately on very hot days, they have been driving, with ac on, and all is good then they get warm air, truck temp starts to go up... is this a sign of the compressor going bad?

My 2002 volkswagon jetta compressor doesn’t engage. I don’t think it has a power signal. It’s a 3 wire pressure switch so I don’t know how to bypass it? Gauges reading zero? Fuses good. I ordered a ac module relay. But I didn’t know how to test it? Should I order a volkswagon Manuel? Or can u give one tip in trouble shooting it blows warm air.

scroll valve inside the compressor but it still is best to just replace it with a new unit.

Very informative video! Ive got a question for you. The line going into the evaporator after the FOT is freezing cold but the line coming out if the evaporator is warm and the accumulator is warm. What are the possible causes of this? A flooded evaporator maybe?

Hey, I have a 2010 Ford Escape 2.5 cyl that I have been having a/c issues. Please can you help me? Issues: 1- The number 1 selection on the fan speed stopped working 2- The a/c compressor stopped working 3- The radiator cooling fans started blowing on high at all times. Fixes: - Changed the Heater Blower Motor Resistor with aftermarket part and it is working on all speed. Diagnoses: - Checked the a/c pressure lines (50/150) - If I unplug the a/c connector plug from the compressor, the fans are working as it should be - Checked the (fans, a/c) relays and they are working - Every time I am unplug the a/c relays and put them pack, the compressor kicks in for 5 seconds then stopped.

Hey I have a 03 crown Vic and when we put a 12v meter on the wire leading to the compressor it turned on so does this mean it's bad or what

My 99 Ford Crown Vic's A/C blows hot air when on norm or max A/C. Another side effect is when the A/C is on my car will overheat, but won't overheat when the A/C is off or I'm running the heater, vent, or defroster. Is this an indication that the compressor is bad?

Great video as always! I have two questions. Where did you get your holder for the two propane torches in the back ground? I have a 2011 fiesta that cools great but sometimes it will throw intense heat out for a small amount of time then go back to cooling fine. I've not put gauges on it yet but I'd almost think it was something other than a charge issue. What's your take?

Well you will have to see if the compressor is still on when the concern is happening. Also if the cold air turns to heated air not just ambient temp then I would say to go after the temp blend door actuator. When they go bad they can hunt.

+FordTechMakuloco thank you sir, I'm placing a order for that holder now lol. I'll take a look at that blend door and see if that's the culprit, car has 98k now and yes when the problem occurs the air is super hot. Thanks again, I've been able to use your videos for a few things specific to this fiesta and it helped me out more than you know.

I have a 2001 F150 4.2L V6. Whenever I turn on my A/C the A/C compressor will turn on and after a couple of seconds turn off. It repeats this process as long as the A/C is on. As a result the engine will rev a few hundred rpms every time the A/C compressor turns off and lowers once it turns back off. This also makes the process to fill my truck A/C systrm with R134A refrigerant impossible. Just curious, what is the problem and how do I fix it?
