It's amazing that there's enough metal there to save. Well done for saving my favourite car ever. I'm still undecided though between liking the 2 or 4 door format the most. I think I'd have a 4 door if I could.

For exciting times with the Bramble project. The saga continues. Thanks for sharing Pete. It's great to a little Cortina video fix every now and then. It makes my day. One thing though, I am simply blown away by the amount of repair and restoration that has to take place and the fact that you jhave the skill and ability to make it all look so easy. I know for a fact that it is not but the videos make it seem like a walk in the park most times. You are a very gifted man in many ways and that is why the videos to me are so amazing.

Fuzz is a legend. Good to see James May too, what a celebrity packed show. Like this stage of a project, things can only get better from here. When you said the body looked like the surface of Mars after it came out the dip, I was half expecting someone to chip in with "yeah, but is there life on Mars?"

Fingers crossed me lads! I lived in UK for 22 years until recently and owned a good number of classics, but my god the rust issues... re rain and salt in winter! One had to choose very carefully re mark of car you were after, especially if she was an older British make! Now back in Sydney and whilst the trim on older classics fries in the sun if not looked after, there is minimal rust if any...! I wish you lads the best with the outcome. At the end of the day it's all about how deep are your pockets and your time. We never had the two door version of this car in Oz, the saloon version was very popular here in its time alongside the larger Ford Falcon and Fairmont, which my father had.

Hi Pete, Bramble looks to be pretty solid a lot less work than on mine, by the look of the shell after the first bake, interesting to see how the red oxide paint seems to resist the heat, other paint flaking off every where, shows why it is a good anti rust primer as it bonds very well, and I used it on the inside of all my panels, in the multi anti rust layers

Seriously though, you must get asked a lot about what it is, is it a Capri? is it a 2 door Granada? Looks like a big Escort? Etc.. Great talking point this whole restoration game, fair play to you Pete.

Yep ZX81 and before that Birmingham Education Department's computer which we shared with all the other comprehensive schools in the area. It had a huge IBM terminal/printer which we fed with punched paper tape to programme it in CESIL and BASIC. We pirated the passwords of the other schools and used to leave them rude messages on their printers. Happy days. Then we got a BBC computer with a tape cassette and large floppy disk drive. No more smutty messages to the girls schools, but at least we got to play space invaders on it at lunch time.

The Metros that were painted in metallic colours were less prone to rust than the flat colours too. The paint must offer more protection.

That looked like a Group A Sierra Cosworth touring car shell, maybe originally built by Andy Rouse as he pioneered the vented foot well on those. Apparently the turbo was so close to the bulkhead that it would get so hot it cooked the driver's left foot on the dead pedal/clutch foot rest. If it was like that in the BTCC it must have been torture for the drivers in endurance events...
@c111prs6 жыл бұрын
Deffo a race car shell as those tubes in the floor are where the air jacks are housed , seam welded , strenghtened , the cage ect ect but the floor vents are the norm,nothing special for btcc, exactly the same as 1.6l under the sound deadening

So I was very interested on the first video. From there this series slowly declines. Its like you decided to give up trying to get good shots and angles, lighting, background noise, and just interesting content. This is just like one of my buddies having his camera phone on by mistake while doing some lazy Sunday engine work, and just records 80% nonsense. IDK.... I know I will get burned for not being grateful, yada yada..... I just feel misled is all.

Whats the point in restoring this car as there is absolutely nothing left of the shell....it would make sense if you have an original body shell that you can fix up without replacing to many original bits....by the time you fix this body there will be nothing original left of it.

quite a lot still orginal, half the front end is orginal, a lot of the roof is still orginal , ok roof skin is swapped yes but wheel tubs, chassis leg, central spine of the floor. plus all the cars that donoted parts can live on in this one, all the running gear and interior orginal, more thna you think Michael, pete
