I got R6 value insolation in my walls, floor and roof. But I'm doing the walls in plywood. Even obove the driver / pasenger, I have two layers -R4 insulation. My set up is probably a hundred lbs lighter than your setup. I have a 2007 Ford E250. I start on the panaling in a couple of days (-:

I try to watch every van build that I can! I am trying to find other van-lifers who can reach out to this awesome 76 years young woman who could really use some help with insulating, framing, and a means of showering, etc in her van. She has been living in her van full time for 2 years now and only recently got a portable air conditioner, but I dont think she has enough solar to run it very much each day. The same with heat in the colder months. With the rising cost of everything she couldnt make it on a fixed income and had to go back to work to get the necesseities to survive in the van. So please, if there is anyone out there who can provide any assistance to her or if you know of someone in the LosAngeles area who can help her with anything please do so soon, as the weather will only get hotter as we get the summer months. How well has everything stayed attached tight 3yrs later? I used luan with self tapping screw and spray glued carpet up over that and over about 2 years quite a few of the self tap screws loosened and backed out. Im redoing it again, better this time and im using thread lock on all my stud walls attached directly to the van .

Hey dude, not sure on the thickness maybe around 5/8” they are just the standard Home Depot/Lowe’s pine firing strips. It may be on their site. You could also rip a bunch of plywood but that would be expensive these days

Reflectix isn't the best. How's it feeling after using it? Dealing with a ton of moisture?

It's not the best but its cheap and it works great for a vapor barrier. Not really dealing with any condensation.

Is framing really necessary? Like couldn't you just rivet wall panels to the metal frames?

You definitely can! This just helps the build be so much more secure and it helps when attaching upper cabinets and bedframes to the framing.

Long enough so they go through your firing strips and into the ribs at least 1/4” deep. It all depends on how deep you counter sink your screws also. Just don’t pop it through the van 😂

Would we need to rip each individual strip on the table saw? Seems like an extra step. These work pretty good never had a problem. Just make sure they are all straight before you leave the lumber store.
