I was wondering how I was going to fit the floor quarter pans into my mk1. It great to see someone else at home in the shed doing the same thing for ideas. Keep up the good work Dave

Thanks, it’s daunting, but not as bad as you’d first think.

Lovely job Dave, by the time thats dressed it will look factory. You have to love the way you manage to find more rot and repairs every time you move to a new spot lol, the rust never stops when restoring old cars over here in the UK. Hope you're feeling better at this moment in time too, thanks for the content.

Nice one, the car is coming up good. I did see Fitz's clip on how to bring up the two panels flush together. The key, as he said was to keep the cutter at the 45 deg, or thereabouts, angle and as you remove the cutter, the panels come together nicely.

That's a nice floor pan, while I would love to have seen you make one it was clearly money well spent. Very nice work fitting it too. Watching with interest, thanks for making the videos.

Glad to see you are back at it! Really sorry you have had covid but happy you are getting over it. That floor pan is looking great, it's a really big job, but you have done a top job of getting it well aligned and properly snugged down to the chassis rails. I only discovered those hex headed self tapping TEC screws after completing the majority of my chassis restoration, however they certainly help in pulling panels together and keeping alignment while working the panel elswhere. Another bonus is that there is only a small hole to weld up. Loving your build, and always look forward to the next instalment. Take care and hope your recovery continues at pace.

Big step taken well done, sounded a bit of a struggle with the covid, glad your ok. This is a Job i need to do on my MK1 cortina, also got my panels from Expressed, top quality.

Thank you Brian, yep, glad I am fully jabbed, dread to think how bad I would have been otherwise. I think the floor pan in the cortina is a bit more straight forward, the Escort includes what would otherwise be an inner sill, complicates it a bit, all the best with it.

Great job Dave, I like the way you show us how to make smaller panels but that floor pan would have been a monster to make. keep plodding on, good luck with the rest of the project🙂.

Thank you Kevin, you are right, would have been a lot, if I did, I’d have probably done it in three separate pieces, but the price was right, so, happy days

again good work dave,i have heard that expressed panels arent very good but after seeing the floorpan i dont know,and jamie (retro rust )has just had a problem with his capri inner cill from ex pressed about not being true to original,im looking forward to your rollover jig build or have you bought one ?.
@DavesGarageuk
@DavesGarageuk 2 жыл бұрын
It's the first panel I've had from them, so can't comment further. I will be building my own roll over jig, will likely incorporate it into the existing jig I've got the Escort on.

Nice job Dave, how far do you think you've got to go before the shell is mounted onto the rotisserie?
@DavesGarageuk
@DavesGarageuk 2 жыл бұрын
Not too far now, just need to put the strength back into the off side chassis and I think it’ll be ok to take off the jig, and put onto a spit. Will be so much easier to work on when that happens.

Just a bit puzzled about the bit at 8:17 ? Did you cut out the old rail, repair it, and put it back, or, is the one you weld in a replacement part?

Hi and please keep doing these videos, I am just about to start so this is great stuff. Can you tell me why you went to Expressed rather than Magnum please Regards Steve
@DavesGarageuk
@DavesGarageuk 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, thanks for your comment, the Magnum panel looks suspiciously like the Klokkerholm panels, I guess they get them from the same place. My experience with Klokkerholm with another panel was a poor pressing and thin material, so wasn’t going to take the risk.

Hi Dave, could I ask what size wire you use and what your welder settings are please?
@DavesGarageuk
@DavesGarageuk Жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, I use 0.6mm wire, the settings will depend on your machine, so my settings won't really help. But I definitely find 0.6mm wire is easier to use than 0.8. I'm trying out 0.8mm flux cored wire at the moment and I'm pleasantly surprised how good it is.

@@DavesGarageuk thanks a million Dave…. I’m absolutely loving your channel….. I was all but giving up on restoration, but your show with the “what have I got to loose” attitude has given me a fresh drive again. Thanks so much and PLEASE keep it going. I’m living in Ireland and have a couple of cars (Renault16’s and a 1500 Dolomite) Cheers for now, Tony
