When my son in law collected his Model Y the chap at the desk enabled his phone as a key, told him which row it was in outside, and let him get on with it! Not what you expect when spending over 50k, but 2 years on he still loves it, costs peanuts to fuel and service.

A couple of points, 1. When I have collected any of my Nissan EVs, the handover has had an hour allocated for the handover with the salesman more than happy to take me through all of the driving options. That has included using the onsite charger and information about on the road chargers, etc. Yeoman Nissan at Waterlooville . 2. Should the industry worry about the Self styled 'Petrolhead'? The target should surely be Business buyers, where most new cars are sold , and the pre-retirement group, who the ones who buy their own new cars as a retirement celebration. The industry target should be the mass car market, those who normally buy Ford Escort or Honda Jazz and similar. The petrolhead will continue to think that Brmm Brmm noises equal exciting motoring anyway, whilst the top of the range cars are mostly out of the reach of both accountant led business buyers and income restricted owner drivers. Poor handovers are not restricted to the motortrade , we once met a family on a rented canal boat whose handover instuctions included the words, 'there are also locks'.

I must have hit on one of the few well trained salesmen when I took delivery of my 1st Mini Electric - 90 minutes of handover. Thus year the same salesman handed over my new Countryman Electric - 45 minutes this time mainly because he didn’t need to go through how to charge it (he reckoned I have more experience of that than him!). It was the new software in a new model that had both of us and another guy sitting in trying to figure that out! A month later they both went on a Mini software training course and was able to get me back to show me how to do the few things we hadn’t been able to suss out on handover day!

If you can operate a Smartphone, and most people can, you can operate a Tesla. It takes literally 5 minutes to work it out. Also if you are going to buy an EV a bit of prior research beforehand is hardly time consuming. In fact that goes for buying a new ICE car as well. Having said this though, I know plenty of people who don't used half of the 'equipment' they have on their car, even though they bought the top spec model.
@aron68on_etoro952 ай бұрын
You're right, but this case was a Ford. It is not that easy, you have to open the correct app., sometimes this is not even so clear on the charger itself, which app you need exactly, then to select the charging plug either by scanning the QR code on it or to select on the map. This is easy after several charges, but at the first time I had to ask somebody to help. My luck was, that the first users were nice and helpful.

Always enjoy your content, this was of particular interest. I was an EV sceptic 2 years ago then via a salary sacrifice scheme selected a Model Y, and have enjoyed the transition to EV. This weekend my wife took delivery of a new Ford Explorer, our dealer experience ( not named but based in Bolton) was excellent in terms of test drive and attention to detail on collection. I agree the Explorer is pricey but there are discounts to be had along with attractive 0% finance. It’s been 30 years since we last bought a Ford, a couple of days into the new motor there’s no buyer remorse yet 😊

That’s why any EV driver who knows what they are doing leaves the motorway service chargers to those who haven’t got a clue. Use Octopus Electroverse and you don’t have to worry about queuing again, and they are generally 100kw and above!

I don't know how about in the UK, but here in the Czech Republic Ford dealers are obliged to hand the customer an EV charged to 100% and at the same time give a basic instruction on how to operate the car, which in my case took almost an hour. I would say a lot depends on the person of the dealer. Otherwise, I don't see anything wrong with using chargers up to 50kW. I prefer to use them in the winter rather than UFC. Of course I charge when I can, I don't wait until I have to. And also, this doesn't apply when I'm on a long trip and want to delay as little as possible with charging.

Unfortunately, the rep talked her through the wrong spec of car, Trophy rather than SE, so a good number of things she said were just plain wrong. The Renault Zoe is one of the few cars that can use the full 22kW AC chargers. I find that the 50 kW charge speed of the Zoe more than enough since I rarely use fast chargers and when I do it is normally for about 15 or 20 mins to get to my destination. Just enough time to go to the toilet. P.S. don’t buy a Starbucks coffee at a service station , they are disgusting. I bought one at Cobham services and it was undrinkable and cost £4:40.

Are the Tesla chargers affected by the 'Public Charge Point Regulations 2023'? I've noticed that the charger at the local Morrison store that hasn't been working for months has now been upgraded to accept contactless and is working again so presumably operators are working on complying with the regulations.

Hi Dave, fantastic video as always. I’ve just taken delivery of an EV9 on a salary sacrifice basis. Car arrived at my home on a transporter at 7am in the dark! The delivery driver was a nice chap who admitted he didn’t have a clue about the car or its features. I’ve literally worked things out myself and used online material as guidance. The company who the lease is with have been made aware of my dissatisfaction with the handover. And they wonder why people are reluctant to make the switch to EVs. I’ve run one previously so had some experience.

Tesla is still ahead even in charging non Tesla. The app is easy to and handshake is fast. With V4 posts i am convinced they are using low frequency bluetooth. As for app setup and understanding of EVs… well dealers are a mixed bag. I work with one dealer locally answering all their questions.

Another great video Dave, Tesla are even worse for this. I picked up my MYP a few months ago. Brand new car and the chap at the Trafford centre just handed me the key cards and told me where the car was and that was it. Any problems use the Tesla app. My last car was an Audi and Warrington Audi spent nearly an hour going through the car with me and gave me chocolate and a bottle of wine and an Audi baseball cap too.

Not an issue. I bought a Skoda Superb Estate years ago, caught the train to the dealer, just signed the paperwork and got the keys. Didn’t ask for or need handholding, I’d already read some of the owners manual on-line.

I don't feel the title was relevant on this one. All points raised are valid though. EV handover needs to be massively improved with explanations on charging as well as using it. Some people will need a lot more assistance but that will have to be consideration. Also trying to explain all of the charging is confusing for a lot of people, as the charge points can give x amount and the car can only charge at y. So the car is not getting enough charge or is in affect plugged in to one too fast, so will cost more. I believe most people thing if it is plugged in it will take say half an hour. Obviously with AC and DC available at some, the times will be massively out.
@paulweston11062 ай бұрын
I'd done my reading up front but in fairness to the salesperson at Hyundai they had allocated 45mins for the handover and beforehand they had run through downloading and setting up the Bluelink app. He also went through plugging and unplugging using the charger they had on site. I think it comes down the quality of the dealership. It does feel like a lot of people make the move to EV or even PHEV without really understanding what it is they are buying in to.

Grid not for for purpose, we don't have the infrastructure , and unlikely to be so for years and years. we will be chasing our tail our transport needs are 20% of our energy requirements. What happens as we stop allowing gas boiler,s and have heat pumps replacement more electric demand. Industry what's left of it gives up gas to go over to electric, more electric demand. Oil fired heating etc replaced by heating pumps. Yes you've guessed it more electric demand. Then there's the absolute insanity of shutting down gas fired power stations to be at the mercy of the wind and sun . The future is the 70s power cuts on steroids, and it's all self inflicted by the woke green green agenda to save the 1% CO2 the UK add to some theory on climate change. 😂
