Fun fact if you want your passenger airbag/seatbelt dinging deal to shut off (I either have passengers with no seatbelt or enough weight in my passenger seat to set it off) there is a wire under the seat that disconnects the weight sensor 👍 And there is another wire under the dash you can pull that will keep your key from dinging when you leave your door open (found that one on a youtube video)

If you drive the truck long enough you'll discover a "sweet spot" when applying the brakes in which the engine will stay running. When approaching a stop gradually apply pressure and don't push the brake all the way down. You'll stop but if you want the engine to stop press all the way down. In other words anticipate a stop and you will also be driving more safely.
@kurtthecat39955 жыл бұрын
The same with my Ford Escape. I use that technique all the time when I want to keep the engine running.
@CapeAnnImages5 жыл бұрын
@@K94406 That only works when you start the truck while in neutral. The point I'm making you can have the start/stop operate without shutting down the engine if you don't make sudden stops. Anticipating stops is also the safe way to drive and if it's going to be a long stop such as draw bridges & train crossings you simply press down more firmly to stop the engine.

@davidpicton60115 жыл бұрын
@@j.rumbleseed unfortunately that's probably not just the other end of the cable. In my experience usually the button will go into the dash harness run through the dash and then into the fuse box for power/ground. I'm not sure what that white box is for but it looks like some people have problems with trailer brake lights not working when they unplug it at the box. If they tested which wires on the plug affect the start stop system they could probably build a harness that bridges the plug to the box and kills start stop only! I like your thinking I seriously doubt the creators of the eliminator thought about doing something with that wires. Changing the property of the physical button is definitely less work for them then doing any sort of investigation into the trucks electrical system.
@midniteoyl89133 жыл бұрын
Cause that's not the other end of the switch wires. That box is the tow module and pulling the plug there causes a fault in that system which disables the autostop. Also means you have to hook it back up when towing.

Short sightedness at Ford with the Auto/Start Stop (ASS) has the potential to doom them in a few years when these now new vehicles get some miles and years on them. Let me explain. Most cars that break down are inoperable because they cannot be started. This almost always are vehicles that have 50, 100, or 200 thousand miles and are several years old in a driveway or parking lot where they effect no one, but the driver and passengers. ASS has the potential to become bigger than the Pinto fiasco. In a few years when these vehicles are several years old and have thousands of miles on them they will start to stall out in traffic lanes. Stalled vehicles are cause of accidents resulting in injury and death, not to mention traffic jams. Just as Nader portrayed Ford sacrificing lives to to save a few bucks production cost on Pintos, so will lawyers or consumer groups portray the ASS as Ford sacrificing safety to squeez another 1/2 MPG out of their "oversize, gas guzzling trucks" for the sake of making more money or getting around MPH requirements. There will be lawsuits filed on behalf of families who have lost ones in accidents involving stalled Fords. Let's face it, they will have good cases. Lawmakers will call for investigations, and laws making illegal automatic cutoffs that will shut off a normally operating engine without input from the operator, for the sake of bypassing CAFE standards. NBC will probably stage an accident of a stalled F-150 and have it explode in a giant fireball. Ford will be forced to recall these trucks and have the ASS changed to where the default setting is "off", or removed all together. One thing I am sure of is 10 years from now Ford F-150s will replace road repair/construction as the No.1 cause of traffic jams. The resale/trade-in value of Ford trucks will drop drastically to the point that many in still running condition will become parts trucks when other manufacturers trucks of the same age and miliege will have a couple of resales left in them.

The last option would be great except I don't have the year truck that allows the push button on the dash. Mine is a 2016 F150, so it's always on. My other option is pulling the wires down by the emergency brake button, or the hood release lever. I just pulled the wire plug there. I was compelled to do this because Ford diagnosed the auxiliary Transmission pump needed to be replaced at a cost of $800 or so. That component continues to pump transmission fluid while the truck is in a temporary stop mode in that crazy start/stop feature. I fixed the issue by just unplugging the set of wires. That Trans auxiliary part is overpriced by Ford, and paying $400 labor to removed three bolts and a wire plug was terribly taking advantage of a 15 minute parts on/parts off step. When I think of it, removing that auxiliary trans pump is as easy as removing a licence plate, and Ford wants $400 labor for a 5 minute job. Why? Because when people hear the word "transmission", immediately they think it's a complicated procedure they know nothing of, so yeah, "go head and do it".

The starter is irrelevant with the start stop feature. Instead of the spark plug firing a brake lock stops the engine precisely at that point. The brake lock releases and the spark plug fires simultaneously causing the engine to resume. It's going to eliminate the electric starter on tomorrow's automobile. JS
@benjieduke36934 жыл бұрын
Nobody told me that. The Ford engine stops. And starts back up without the starter. Only one cam has to be stopped and locked in a certain position. Simotanously the throttle plate closes shut. If there is a vacuum gauge on the intake whatever in hg vacuum it idles at is where it stays when it is stopped or frozen. The mapp let's it know when pressure is falling so it will resume back running stop and do it again. I'm just saying that this might be over your head. Also that is the only way a motor can start back up without a starter or any other external power.
@benjieduke36934 жыл бұрын
The new Ford diesel in 2011 was impossible until I was standing there listening to it. 5 injection cycles, 5 different durations, starting with the shortest duration to the longest duration. All of that within the top dead center motion. GM trucks have the start stop feature and the starter starts it back up. Because they are still running the ancient overhead valve push rod engine. Jack Wyatt I don’t but my 2019 lariat does so I guess ya I do ? Hence my question :)

Why do you wanna turn it off?

Safety, vehicle control. When waiting for a gap to enter a frontage road the damn thing will frequently cut the engine off. When this happens, the power steering stops working and you're not able to properly turn the wheel and accelerate to merge into traffic. It is also useless when running the AC in Texas. Stop messing with my cold air!

El_Quacko I don’t notice any improvement in fuel mileage with the feature enabled. I also think is bad for the engine to constantly stop/start. Especially with hot turbocharged engines. The turbos cool of during idle but when you stop the engine at every stop they just cook.
@kurtthecat39955 жыл бұрын
@@kevingray8616 In a situation like that you can keep the engine running by not fully pressing down on the break pedal. There is sweet spot that keeps the engine running. I use that technique all the time. Also if you're using the AC, the AC should stay on. If turns off at a stop something is not right.
@kevingray86165 жыл бұрын
@@kurtthecat3995 I tried the light brake pedal touch today and it seems to work. Thanks for the tip! BTW, the AC doesn't stop when the engine stops, but the compressor does. It just blows the air it has, but isn't really cooling the air.

Admit I don’t like the auto bs but I’ll just hit the button that Ford put there - not really a major effort.

Thank You! I'm going cheap and easy; unplugging the F'n thing, why would I turn it on again? I have a key for that. If you make something idiot proof, you've made something only an idiot would want.

WARNING on unplugging the thing. It will mess up your trailer turn signals and brake lights, if you tow a trailer. I unplugged mine on my 2019 F150 XLT. i lost turn signals and brake lights on my camper. I spent 2 days after work trouble shooting my camper electrics system. I plugged my buddies truck in and everything worked. I figured i would take it back to the dealer for warranty work, so i needed to plug my module back in. I remembered in tow mode, the computer turns the auto start stop feature off. So i plugged the module back in, and my camper brake and turn signals started working. I guess the computer uses that connection during tow mode, so whatever you do, don't unplug it. I don't know about the other methods.
@bambamnj5 жыл бұрын
Shawn, why the drama.. you certainly can unplug it. I mean unless you're pulling a trailer every time you drive. It's just one additional step you have to do when you hook up your trailer, plug in your trailer connection and plug in the white box plug. No big deal. so the whole Warning Warning, Danger Will Robinson, "Whatever you do, don't unplug it" drama queen statement is not needed.
@shawnbebout5 жыл бұрын
I just want people who unplug it to know it will mess up their trailer lights. Kinda sucks when you go to pull it for a long ass drive and your trailer brakes don’t work. Then you spend hours troubleshooting it, just to realize it was the auto start stop feature that you unplugged. My post might save someone a shop bill
@elconquistador99213 жыл бұрын
This should have read, just remember to plug it back in when you tow a trailer. That plug is part of that system, that's why it disables the auto start-stop. When you have a trailer hooked up, the auto start-stop system is bypassed. When you disconnect the little plug, you break that circuit and it does the same thing. So you just remember to plug it back in when you tow something.

I hate my 2018 FORD F-150. I will never buy a FORD again. 1st it didn't come with a built-in fuse for the trailer brake controller, and every-time I slow down and start to re-accelerate around 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear, I hear a loud noise, like the gears aren't engaging correctly. I basically gave up trying to have FORD fix these issues. NO MORE FORD for me...
