I think the performance difference has to do more with Weight rather than Density Altitude. The Raptor = 6006 lbs weighs considerably more than the 2016 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost =4,937 lbs.
@TFLnow8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Smith Yes, weight is another huge factor. Although, this F-150 4x4 Limited weighs nearly 5,600 lbs. It also has two loading ramps in the bed. The Raptor has an aftermarket winch that adds weight.

on average, a naturally aspirated engine loses approximately 5% BHP per 1000ft in elevation, so you are well over a 20% loss at 1 mile above sea level. That 411bhp is more like 330bhp :(. The 3.5 is maxed out on power and could only handle a few mods before it detonates, the 6.2 could push 650hp with $6k in upgrades all day.
@wolfwitdabeanz32118 жыл бұрын
It's definately not maxed out on power. tf? The Taurus SHO uses the exact same engine and people have pulled a little shy of 500hp out of them stock. Livernois has tuner kits that they sell for the 2.7 and 3.5 and the 3.5 can safely be boosted up to 475 with little more than an exhaust, intake and tune on stock internals. People do this all day. It's not a special case. There are hundreds out there that have this kind of modification and from Livernois' kit there has never been a single failure and that's a proven fact. If you don't know what you're talking about.. don't talk about it. It's very simple.
@wolfwitdabeanz32118 жыл бұрын
jldude84 In addition to what you've said. To further put his statement into a pile of shit. That 6.2 definately cannot make 650+ horsepower with just 6 grand in upgrades. It can make 650+ with a whipple, yes. But, it won't be reliable at all. The crank and bottom end are all cast. Not forged. With 6 grand in forged bottom end and crank then sure. You could make 650+ hp. But, not before spending closer to 10 grand.

This "comparison" is dumber than a box of rocks. No mention of axle ratios or tire sizes of either truck. Plus the Raptor weight is significantly higher, but the axle gears alone will easily make or break a drag race. As far as getting the job done ". You have to ask yourself what exactly is the job you are doing?
@kleetus928 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that either a rolling start would have drastically different results. A mile above sea level isn't exactly a fair challenge but I have a real hard time believing a fuel injected motor with nearly twice the displacement got it's ass handed to it by a twin turbo. So either the 6.2 is the biggest joke on the planet, or this test is complete bullshit.

The new f150s are quick bro I have an uncle who bought a 2015 with the 5.0 and we raced it with my friends 2014 raptor and it still beat it. No BS just fast. What I'm really wondering is if that new 3.5 on the 2017 raptor will be faster than the 3.5 on the regular 2017 f150
@kleetus928 жыл бұрын
My buddy has an FX4 ecoboost F150, it is quick, very nice truck. I just have a real hard time believing that a motor with nearly twice the physical displacement is that much of a pig. Somebody really screwed the pooch there. Now your question about the new raptor engine is interesting... the new lincoln MKZ with a 3.0 ecoboost is claiming 400 HP. A 3.5L with the same power per displacement should be good to 466 HP with similar tuning. No idea what the overall longevity of these engines will be, but, at least for a while they should be good. Now, that all being said, HP numbers are great, but it's the torque that gets the job done, and having peak torques at like 2k rpm is just useless.
@ponygt66298 жыл бұрын
There is a reason Y Ford is sayin the ecoboosts are better See I agree Fords V8 s are reliable and well powerful too but the turbo is better Turbos have this torque plateau that extends between 2500-5500 rpm which is nuts, U cant beat a turbo engine that easily
