I'm not sure whether you are repairing or rebuilding this motor for yourself or not, But .... and this is just a suggestion. You said she had 235k ? Replacing all of the rocker rollers and adjusters is just the minimum, then add a upgraded melling oil pump. And you were correct by stating the main reason for failure on these mod motors is LACK of maintenance.

thanks for this effort.. but did you complete the project? I'm working in the same project and need to swap a v8 with v10 .. if you complete it please share with me the remaining videos... thanks so much

I put this project on hold for a bit until I have some more funds to allocate to it. The main truck is back on the road and that repair cost around $1500, so the wallet was feeling a little light. I've got somewhere around $2k into this project and probably another $1k to finish it, plus tires (another $2500 I'd guess).

Ford made a change to the design of the oil squirter hole on the rocker, the old ones have a straight hole, the new ones have an angled hole that squirts at the roller. The old part number is 3L3Z-6564-BA and the new part number is 3L3Z-6564-A. As far as I can tell, most of the top-end failures involve the BA rocker.

Replace the timing chain guides, oil pump & read the plug's. The cam look's ok; you probably had a sticking valve.

The plugs were completely roached, they were probably original to the reman engine. The chain may have been slacked because of rotating the engine in the non-drive direction when I was removing the torque converter. From what I've seen on 5.4 videos it's the cams that start wallowing out the cam tower, debris gets in the oil system and takes out the phaser solenoid and accumulates in the tensioner. Since this motor hasn't shown any signs of failure, except for the rocker that was totally wasted, I feel like those parts are okay. There isn't any sign of guide failure or chain rubbing. For as much as I plan to drive this truck, a new camshaft and rockers will probably last the rest of its life (plus I change oil every 5k miles or less). I'm thinking they must have redesigned the rocker arm lube squirters in response to the failures on these early rocker designs.
