Thumbs up, not bored of the wet belt stuff - they will come in different models and different mileages and maintenance - good for comparison - there's a lot of wariness of anyone buying a 1.0 ecoboost who are on the net researching a new car purchase. Thanks for taking the time to film your work and edit and upload!
@Finglesham
@Finglesham 3 ай бұрын
Wariness? They would not buy one. I bought a 2017 Focus this April but it was a 150TDCI so a conventional 10 year belt change, but no due yet..

@@Finglesham Yep, but for people that are in and around ULEZ zones buying a 2018 and onwards deisel might not be in the price range... Hence people may be looking at say 2012-2016 petrols... The diesel 1.5 turbo sounds like a great engine, how has it been since your ownership?
@Finglesham
@Finglesham 3 ай бұрын
@@shifty277 It is Euro 6 and the 2.0 litre diesel turbo and I bought it from High Peak but it had covered 44500 miles as in lock-down it had been off the road entirely. Good service history originally registered to Ford and sold on a year later. The owner traded it in to a Kia dealer for a new car and it not a car they wanted to retail so off to the next level of dealer down. Not cheap though.

Ford should have put an inspection plug in the sump to check the oil pickup.
@bazmeredith

Or smaller sump like the PSA, which would save a lot of faff removing the cat

I was going to ask you that, Baz. Having done so many of these, and it looks an absolute swine of a job, what should the designers have done differently to make the job easier? Obviously an undertray for the Fiesta would have been a start, but did they miss anything obvious?
@someone7507
@someone7507 3 ай бұрын
@@simonbailey2151, Ford made a little improvement by using a timing chain, and rotating the cyl. head. So on the latest 1.0ecoboost revision, the sump can be dropped without having to remove the exhaust pipe. Of course the oil pump belt is still there, so when the time comes to change it, this long job is still there.

I will keep watching these learning from every one done. I like to see the state of the belt, sump, and oil pick up versus the mileage. It's great info, giving us an idea of the lifespan of a belt. A clean pick up looks like the car had regular oil changes, but the deterioration of the belt seems to tie in with the mileage. Great data. Thanks Baz
@shifty277
@shifty277 3 ай бұрын
Agreed with everything you have said. For me it's the amount of oil changes up to the 60k mark for example - are we talking silly 4 x 15k long life oils from the manufacturer or more sensible 8 x 7.5k oil changes.

Currently in the middle of this job on my son's fiesta. 2014 with 77k miles. Air compressor and cat bolts came off without issue but one bolt on the exhaust wouldn't budge. Tried drilling but my drill bit hardly made an impression. Resorted to a dremel to cut it off from behind. The torque multiplier made light work of the crank bolt (cheap Chinese versio). I did have issues getting the front cover back on...I was following the ford manual Torque specs which call for a funal torqu of 15nm +90° but obe if the bolts snapped. Rather than risk any more snapping, I removed the cover and cleaned off the rtv. Got new bolts from local ford supplier. I wonder if Baz omits the final 90° to avoid shapping. Anyway, just put the crank pully back on and hope to button it up tomorrow and Saturday. Belt was showing signs of cracking and delamination and there were a few particles in the oil pickup. Hugh thanks to Baz for all the wet belt videos...i felt like an armchair professional and well versed, ready to tackle the job!

Hey there...which belt was on your engine, the 16mm or the 18mm?
@MrUnderwurlde
@MrUnderwurlde 3 ай бұрын
It was 16mm. From what I have seen, the 18mm was also used on cars built up to September 2013. My local ford parts supplier said they usually go with the 18mm if their system shows both. I'm not so sure though as the parts catalogue that calls for 18mm belts also has a different part number for the cam gears so I would stick to what is on the car. Great site for part catalogue is ssg.aisa. Put in your vin and you can view the entire parts catalogue.

My daughter has an 2018 Ford Ecoboost 1.0lit Turbo. The oil pump belt tensioner broke and shredded the oil pump belt teeth. I did the change myself, replaced the timing belt and oil pump belt. I did use the same oil pump as there was no gunk where the mesh was. Started the engine, it started, but it sounds like their is no oil getting to the engine. There is no engine oil light on either. What did I do wrong?...I'm guessing I should have replaced the oil pump but don't want to spend that much money $1000 Australian and find out that isn't the issue. Is there anything I can tick off before I buy it to see if it fixes the issue. Thank you in advance for any help.

@bazmeredith if you were half way through a wet belt job, just about to start putting it back together, and you found a small black oring on the ground, about 16mm in diameter, would you have any idea where it might have come from? There's a myriad of disconnected pipes but not sure which would use a 16mm oring....

I have been quoted from my local garage that i have used for years £950 for the amount of work involed i think thats a fair price.Massively more expensive than a conventional belt but it is what it is.

Timing belt/chain replacement on a small family car should not cost more than £450 including parts. I read that a wet belt replacement costs around £950. That’s simply poor design IMO.
