I understand the appeal of the RS but i cant say no to a straight six rear wheel drive small car 😍

I have driven both these cars and I agree with the reviewer. They are both fantastic. But the M140i just isisn't that great to drive in manual form, in fact, its disappointing. However, if you pick the fantastic 8 speed auto and treat it more as a great everyday rocket, its great. That means that the RS is a better raw drivers car, despite it not being RWD. The top and and smoothness of the BMW is pure excitement, but it just doesn't have that low RPM punch of the RS. That being said, the top end of the RS does become breathless. In reality, the RS is also significantly cheaper, paint is optional on the BMW, along with heated seats, apple car play etc. And its drive away price in base form is around 65K. You can easily get the RS LE for 55k on the road.

LSD is also a $5000 option on the BMW.

I love both cars, but am the proud owner of a M140i. I did end up racing a Focus RS, and at a “certain” speed on the straight, the RS had to pull over as I was having to ease off the accelerator. The BMW has the grunt, and in my opinion, the stealth to surprise a lot of big expensive cars out there.

I wanted a hot hatch. I tried Focus RS, Audi S3, Merc A35, Golf R, and then an M140i. It was an easy choice. M140i (auto 2017) was the best do-it-all car. Very smooth and refined, quiet and even economical in comfort mode, but an absolute giggle in sport+. Now it's remapped to 411bhp/576nm and competes with RS3/A45, so would obliterate a Focus RS, yet still be much more reliable.

That has to be one of the worse colour combos for the M140. Black on black with black wheels. No wonder it looked dull against the Ford.

Yes, why is that? I have an M140i shadow edition 8 speed auto in classic Estorile blue with a tan interior, looks great. The RS is a good car but for me, the BMW is a better real-world car.

@zoltrix77794 жыл бұрын
I’ve driven both of these and agree with the reviewer, I’ve also driven the M2, both in auto and manual. Both the manual BMWs are horrible, the gearbox feels like rubber mush and the pedals are offset to the right hand side, they are probably fine in the left hand drive car, but some compromise has been made in the right hand drive car. It’s so bad that you have to have the auto, the auto is great, the DCT in the M2 sportier still. However, it’s so disappointing if you actually wanted the manual. And then you have to pay $5k for the LSD. I personally don’t see how the M2 costs $40k more, sure it looks good, but as a road car, the M140i is a bargain that is 90% of an M2. The engine in the M140i also feels stronger than the M2! The focus is defiantly the more hard core feeling car, the gearbox and clutch are light years ahead of the BMW. But yes, it’s not quite so relaxing when you want, and the seats can get annoying on long rides. Looks are subjective, I like both in their own way. The M2 looks fantastic but the least practical. The Ford is the most characterful in my opinion, even through it’s not RWD. I depends on what you are looking for. I would personally choose a Hyundai i30n if only it came in AWD and had another 40kW.

Sad that the 3rd gen 1-series is going FWD/AWD. The most unique hatchback foregoes its uniqueness for mass-market appeal.
@dlevi676 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's so much mass-market appeal as weight/space constraints on the Mini chassis, plus emission limits and cheaper to make. But yes, get your F2x Mx40i while you can

BMW should have made a full blown M1 hatch priced at around 75-80k.. with sportier looks, more power & better suspension. the m140i is a great car as is but it just lacks the special feel. It also looks very dull. wish they would give it a proper M treatment.

M2 in Germany is 60000 euros / m1 would cost 54000 euros in Germany
@OfficialMINIm6 жыл бұрын
Ben Chesterman i dont think it would cost that much. If they did make m1 they would have to make it so that it has to be competitive with A45 AMG & RS3. In Australia both A45 & RS3 costs around 80-90 thousand mark. An M1 would have to be around the same price range to compete. The m140i is already a compelling and unique package but its not a complete package like a Golf R or the a45 is

Sir Shneb but the road conditions would have to be on the BMW’s side. Given that it gets a good launch on a good road/weather conditions, yea perhaps it may be quicker than the golf r /s3. But not by much. If it was my money id get the new golf r mk7.5

@FOCUSEGO6 жыл бұрын
Those wheels are not the best option and you can dress the front up a little with aftermarket bits. Try one, it is an excellent car and makes the RS look a bit of a track toy as opposed to a great real-world fast road car.

No problem. I must say that the M140i rwd can get pretty lairy when you push on non-super-grippy ground, and it's tough to drive on snow (though it's a lot of fun, provided you have a lot of space around you and no-one else coming the other way!)
