Glad I found your video! I decided to take mine apart also after watching your video and found that the contacts were dirty. My valve wouldn't move before. Cleaned all the contacts with contact cleaner and put dielectric grease back on. Works great now thanks! 6/32 x 3/4 screws fit the holes.

Yup, thank you. Got in my 94 F350 7.3 idi just yesterday started it up right away drove down to the parts house no problems. Got back home. Needed to go get a tool at the parts house went back into my 94 thinking you know how much fuel do I have in my rear tank. So flipped the switch to check the fuel gauge pegged past full and never came back down. Then went to start the truck it would run then die. Run then die. Just like it was out of fuel. Flipped the switch back to the front tank and the gauge stayed the same Full pegged. Walked down to the gas station to grab some diesel in my 5 gallon Jerry Can throw the diesel into the front tank. Still no run at all. Walked back to the station to grab another supply of diesel and put that in the rear tank. Fuel gauge stayed the same pegged at FULL and no start. Everything was fine up until I changed the fuel tanks from the front to the rear tank. So thank you for this video as it made sense to me that it could be my issue on big old blue like Steve had issues with. Selector valve stuck in the middle with you.

Great video man. Surprised this hasn’t really been done on KZbin before considering what a problem this is on the old Ford trucks. Appreciate it man.

@BrickyBoi that’s ok. Depending on the year it is the EXACT same part. The only difference will be the shape and number of pins for the electrical connector. My powerstroke is what I cleaned it on. It worked, but it leaked a little after I opened it. Go figure, 25 years of diesel and heat cycles might wear out some rubber seals lol. Anyway, it’s the same concept. Clean it off and when it’s clean if it leaks just order the 60 dollar one off eBay or amazon

great video! Same issue with my 1990 IDI and was driving me crazy. Would only run on the back tank then die when I switched to the front tank.

Appreciate the heads up on this. I've got a 6.9 that is completely gutless on any kind of incline. Already replaced all the injector caps and return lines, next thing was to replace the selector valve. Think we might pull'r apart first and see what it looks like. When that doesn't work, electric fuel pump time!
@4460cows
@4460cows 2 жыл бұрын
Yup I pulled mine down and the same exact situation stuck in the middle of the two tanks. Can't blow any line past the other line. I did first check fuse's, then checked the tank selector switch with batteries connected tested still working as a switch. Then pulled the tank selector valve assembly got it on the bench now going to tear into just like you did see if we can get it going again. Could save $450.00 from Ford parts. Wow it is expensive part. You did a super job detailing this video cause you guess it someone else has the exact same problem. That would be me. 1994 F=350 7.3 IDI Turbo 4x4 long bed 6 pack cab. Allmost 300K on original international navistar but dang the 4OED transmissions are just no good on this beast. Going in for a fourth rebuild cause currently it is a manual automatic you have to start it in first gear then go up the column from there and no over drive no tach either now.

The problem is these valves get plugged with crud from the old fuel tank. It will probably clog again before long. I’ve heard of guys putting filters between the tanks and the valve to protect it.
@bloenhorst

Yeah - I did the same to my tank selector valve and still had poor fuel delivery and my front tank was full of rusty diesel and chunks of the pick up devise that had disintegrated.

I got a 91 Ford f350 7.5 dual tanks and I just noticed earlier today that there was smell of gas outside. I can smell it around my truck as soon I start it to move it, I noticed the gas was pouring of the front tank with the cap on and I drive with the switch on rear tank. So what could be the problem. My front tank couldn't be full because I don't use it at all. I only use the rear tank and only use the front tank for emergency.
@machineryd2765
@machineryd2765 Жыл бұрын
Those selector valves switch both the feed line from the tank and the return line back to the tank. Sounds like it's not switching correct and is pulling from rear tank but returning back into front tank.
@hendricks177

@@machineryd2765 so it's the select valve? Where is it actually located and is it easy to put on a new one. Right now the switch is on the front tank to use all that gas up so I can go down and as soon I open the gas door and remove cap, I can see gas right at the top.
