My dad had a 1965 Ford Galaxie with a 390 and 4 speed manual. He bought it brand new when he was in the military. Year later, he asked me to restore the car and I did. That was our family car and I miss it terribly. But the fun us kids had, especially when my dad did a few burnouts with it.

My first car was a 1965 Ford ranch wagon that I purchased from a dealer in Buffalo, NY. in 1972. My best friend blew the engine in it two weeks after I purchased it. My second car a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door purple vehicle that I purchased from my sister. I drove it a couple of years and sold it for a small profit. The 2 door was the sportiest car I have ever owned over my driving years.

Pictured in my Thumbnail is a 1963 Ford Galaxie 2 door Post that I have had for 47 years, it was given to me by my grandmother "Bessie", hence her nickname "Bessie". You see my grandfather died in 1976 and my grandmother did not drive, therefore she gave it to me at the age of 14. Bessie is actually the car I learned to drive in as a teen. Bessie had 56,000 actual miles on her when Pa passed and today she clocks 62173.7 actual miles. Bessie is %100 original with the exception of dual exhaust with a 289 Fordomatic pushing her. She is my 1st born child. Thanks for the Video BocaBrothers!!!

We had a 1965 Galaxies 2-door hardtop in vintage burgundy with black interior, a 289 v-8 and automatic. I loved that car. We traded it in a 1968 LTD 2-door hardtop in diamond blue and black vinyl too with Brougham interior. We ordered a 390 cu. in. v-8. Rich, elegant and Uncle Henry, as it became known could get up and move. Both of these cars took us on numerous vacations to see many wonderful sites in this nation. Treasured memories.

During the summer of 1966 I had to rent cars occasionally. The very first time was for a weekend. Called and made arrangements to pick it up. When I got there a gorgeous red two door hardtop was brought in and the keys given to me. I couldn't believe this was the car I got. Absolutely gorgeous. Couldn't believe my luck. A few weeks later I had to rent a car again. Was told they only had one available. It was in the process of being readied. When I got there, filled out the papers and eventually a white '66 Mustang with the 289 engine was driven it. At first I thought it was someone returning their rental. But the driver came in and handed me the keys! Years later my dad bought a used car. Got a 65 Ford Custom four door sedan.

My dad had as the 2nd owner a 1967 Ford LTD Galaxy with a 390 CID V8 that he bought in 1973 which he had until he junked it in the mid to late 90's. The plush velvet interior was replaced with grey vinyl while he owned it and he had to take the vinyl roof cover off and fix leaks in it and rusty panels as they deteriorated. The entire engine was overhauled in the late 70s. It was a light sand metallic color with white and wood grained interior panels. I grew up with that car. It would flat out fly if you pushed it. The C4 tranny eventually had to be warmed up to be able to go forward as there was a gasket diaphragm leak but it was still a great car. Loved the vertical headlamps, front grill and rear taillamps. We drove across the country several times in that car. Thinking of it reminds me of my dad who died in 2017.

Thanks very much for posting this video, the Galaxie 500 range has always been the favorite model of mine. I am the proud owner of a 1965 Galaxie 500 4dr sedan, with the outstanding FE390, here in New Zealand . It was born on the 26th October 1965 at the LA Factory and ordered by a dealership in Denver, Colorado. Spent most of its life in Denver, and then California until "immigrating" to New Zealand in 2016. It is still pretty much stock standard and still very much a pleasure to drive. The 1959 Ford is one of the most popular and iconic cars of all times...approximately 1.5 million were produced. In the following years sales of full-size Fords were only about 1 million or less per model year. However, Ford pioneered new types of cars like the intermediate 1962 Fairlane and 1965 Mustang before General Motors.

My 1st car was a 62 Ford Galaxy coup. My Dad purchased it used in 63 and I inherited it in 72. It had the straight 6 250 cui with 2 speed automatic. Loved that car. You could use 1 finger to turn the steering wheel with the power steering. For a 6 banger it had a lot of pep and was pretty frugal on gas. When my older brother came back from Nam in 74 he got my Aunt's 65 Galaxy 500 coup with the 352 and 4 barrel. It was beautiful white and had bright red interior. With only 22K miles on it it was perfect. I liked all the old Fords.

My first car was a 20 year-old 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 LTD with the 390 cubic inch engine. It was black with a white vinyl top. A friend bought it for me for $325 at a car auction in the second week of January 1985. The defroster and heater weren’t working, so I had a cold drive for about 60 miles. The inside windows fogged up and I used my hand to wipe it off and then it turned to ice and I had to hang my head out the window to drive in the freezing temperatures. Having the thermostat replaced fixed the heating defrosting issue. Less than a year later, I was having some brake problems, but didn’t have the money to take it to the shop. I was having to pump the brakes to stop, and then one day on the way home from work on a county highway, I approached a 35 mph bend in the road during the rain and when I applied the brakes, nothing happened and as I got closer to the bend in the road, I pumped them more quickly and then finally slammed on the brakes and they locked up and I went into the 3 foot ditch and slammed into a driveway that was coming out at the apex of the corner. I saw a big chunk of dirt go flying. The ball joint on the top of the tire broke off and the tire was laying flat on the driver side. I was uninjured but the car suffered about $800 damage and I was only making about four dollars an hour. I ended up selling it for 300 bucks. Before this all happened, many people would compliment the vehicle when they saw it. I was pretty happy with my old vehicle. I just wish I had had the money to properly take care of it, but you live and learn.

Really didn't see many for years but did cruise by the local Wheels And Deals lot one Saturday afternoon in the mid '80s and a '66 7 Litre was there. Abit ragged in red but all there. One of my best friends bought a '69 Galaxie 500 with the 390 as his first car. He used it as a cruiser, and we would drive to the neighboring towns on the weekends just to look around. Problem was, that thing was a GAS HOG! He called the needle on the gas gage "a second hand" because that thing moved like the second hand on a clock anytime you started the engine! Not a problem when gas was 30 cents a gallon, but after OPEC he traded that thing 'Cause he couldn't keep the tank full!!!

Loved your video! I grew up in a '64 Galaxie. Loved that car when I was a kid. Top Galaxie models I love are the '64 and the '67. Forgot to mention that from '63 thru '68 different high powered engines (406 to 429CID) were offered as an option. Also, in 1963, a Thunderbolt lightweight variant was sold for dragstrips. The Thunderbolt variants switched to the fairlane lineup in '64. Hey you should also make a video about the Fairlane lineup! This was my favorite sedan lineup from Ford, especially from '63 to '67.

What happened is the '61 Ford was on the drawing board for the 1960 model year. Then GM shocked everyone by going back to fins for the '59 Chevrolets. Ford held off on the '61 project and put the 1960 car (that we know) into a rush production to stay competitive.

Based on looks I couldn't choose which one I like best; all are sights for sore eyes compared to the boring, look-alike stuff put out nowadays, so I'll go with the '62 model, as that is the year I was born.

My dad bought a blue1966 Ford Custom 500 that was the red, white and blue entry models. It had the 289 v-8 4-door with ac, crank windows, and automatic transmission. With 4 boys driving it the car got plenty of rough use and only died when I was hit by a new Rolls Royce in 1972.

All of these Galaxies takes me back to my youth. And although I did not own any Fords because my father did not like Fords although he had a 55, it was because of my uncles, which were brothers to my mother, that was the reason why I knew so much about Fords. My mother had three brothers all of them were strictly Ford owners. And all three of my uncles at one time or another probably owned a Galaxy or an LTD. And my great uncle owned a 61 Galaxy four-door sedan for many years until he died in 81. And that was back when most women didn't have a driver's license because they didn't have a driver's license because they had a husband more than likely and she kept that car for many years after that until she died

I would have to say that the 1963 1/2 and 1964 R code Galaxy 500 XL two door hardtop models are the most obscure and most sought after model Galaxies of all of them they were equipped with the famous 427 soFE engine's with dual four barrel carbs and bucket seats and floor console and four speed transmission they were homologation cars for use in NASCAR sanctioned events so that meant there were at least 500 of them produced for use on the street and there are still quite a few or them around but most people who have them hang on to them every once in awhile one will come up for sale but they don't go cheap for sure those giant battleships are extremely fast and for their size handled pretty good there only weakness was braking technology at that time was not quite up to the task I really liked that body style a lot 1965 was the first year Ford had the double sided keys. that didn't have too be right side up or up side down to be inserted. I owned a 1968 custom 500. that was an old State Patrol car. that had a 390 FE police interceptor engine and PI package. which included a large radiator, and special hoses, and a large four barrel carb, and dual exhaust, and heavier suspension, and giant brakes, and a kitted C6 transmission. it was a four door post. for a a big heavy car that thing really hauled ass, it was extremely fast and I loved it. I got a AWESOME deal on that car and drove it for a long time. and wish that hadn't sold it.

I've got a 500 that came with a 240 six and a six speed split shift overdrive....it was a blast to drive with that engine, but is a lot more fun with the current 427 4spd that I swapped in. It handles great for a full sized car due to the three box full frame. In 65 they tore up the NASCAR tracks because of the stiff frame...there were even a few Chevy teams caught putting their cars on the Galaxie frame. In 66 mid sized cars were allowed in NASCAR , so Ford switched to the Fairlane...

I always like the Galaxy 500. Especially the early to mid 60's versions. I remember watching Andy Griffith and enjoying the early 60's Galaxy as their patrol car. My father had an LTD. I thought it was a 1974 model. It was White exterior with a White Vellore Interior. It also had Powered Vent Windows. They were not as good as Swing Out ones. These went straight down. It also had a Quadraphonic 8 Track Player. LOL

In the summer of 1976, Dad came home from a Kruse auction with a 1965 Galaxie 500 convertible. Red with red interior and white top, and the 390. That was the car my siblings and I were "forced" to share when we were in high school, and Dad tinkered and babied that car for decades, donating it (along with his beloved 1941 Packard 110 Business Coupe) in the late '90s to a local antique automobile museum to be auctioned off to raise funds for the place. One of my nephews was particularly fond of that car, and has endless memories of helping Granddaddy tinker with it. Flash forward to 2015. Same nephew tracks down the car's owner, and rents the Galaxie for his wedding day pictures. He and his bride even re-created a precious picture of Dad and Mom in the Ford. Anyway, around 3 years ago, same nephew BUYS the car, and is currently about $10K into resto/mods. Granddaddy is smiling. Thanks for conjuring such great memories simply by looking at that '65 grille!
