Did a 30 model A pickup a while ago and all we were able to use was the cab, doors and grill shell. Even then there was a lot of work on the cab and doors just to make them usable.

I love watching you guys. And yes.I am jealous. You are one lucky guy. My dream is to build a Model A.I had a great deal on a 28 coupe body .was in a house fire. I took too long. Someone beat me to the punch. I still want to build a chassis from scratch. I would love to find a front axle/ suspention assembly. Rear I can use anything. .

So far I've only been able to pull one Barn Find (a very rough 28 roadster). Happen to stop by an old place that had a rusty cast iron sewing machine base setting in the weeds. One thing led to another and after 20 minutes of jaw jacking...I was picking a barn and up pops the roadster..... what a feeling! Wish I could sell it in a can!

That is a really good example of a car to sacrifice for a rod. As a Model A purist, it irks me when a restored car is cut up by a fat wallet and no ambition.

Dude I love your episodes, they are so informative. I purchased a 31 Tudor a year ago and you helped me with all the channel process to get the car looking right. Like you I had some cash in my pocket and ended up finding a really nice 33 ford 5 window stashed away for really cheap. But again thanks for all the information and knowledge!!!

Can you do a video on selecting where to cut a patch panel. My 33 i got had a lift leg go through the side of the cowl driver side. I can figure out where to cut with out messing with body lines. I am not an expert. Thanks again for all your shows!!!

Thanks for watching Roger! I was going to originally make this a coupster, but after some research I found a couple old 50's-60's sport coupe hot rods that looked awesome and I want to try and keep this one a sport coupe and try and break the stigma of sport coupes being only buildable as a coupster. I've got a vision! Haha! -Matt/ITG

Your videos are very inspiring Matt, may have been a bad decision to buy that sport coupe but thank god there are guys like you that don’t mind doing the scary part so the novice Hotrod builder isn’t so overwhelmed so thank you and keep doing what your doing! Definitely would have liked to see how you made that rear subframe crossmember, I have been wondering on how to properly make that piece since I bought my A ended up getting the KY out and bought one from Brookeville. Awesome videos!
@IronTrapGarage
@IronTrapGarage 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Dylan thanks for watching! Yea I've been showing the local guys that have been coming to help how to take these projects in parts and tackle the stuff that matters/is really scary first and then before you know it you have a car that just needs the normal patch panels and body work. I wouldn't ever restore this car, but saving it and making it a cool little driver hot rod is a lot better than scraping it! You need a heavy break like I have to make the rear lower body cross member part. I bent a channel up out of 16 gauge and then a smaller channel out of 16 to fit inside of it. I then cut the seam top and bottom to roll the corners, trimmed the excess and welded the seam back up. I welded threaded inserts into it for attaching the center trunk support and the lower trunk panel. The next time I do one we'll do a detailed video on the process! -Matt/ITG

IronTrap Garage oh yeah I totally agree unfortunately this one is too far gone to do a resto and a nice driver Hotrod is awesome! And ok I have a 4’ metal brake but she’s a little worn out might not have been able to bend it plus the body I have didn’t have enough left at the bottom to go off of unfortunately so I figured the subframe and rear crossmember would help me figure out where the quarter panels need to go and yes please that would be very helpful! I’ll probably make one when you make that vid just to say I did it ahaha thanks again Matt and have a good one bud 👍🏻

Would like to see a follow up(but I know there are a lot of projects working). Haven’t seen it around so assumed it sold off? I have a sport coupe body and thought of doing a coupester. Difficult to find any info on best ways to address the wider a-pillars/posts, higher doors, and lower turtledeck.

I think that was a good candidate for a hot rod. Trying to restore it to show grade original model A would have taken a lot of work. Now the body gets put to good use 😀. What did you do with the engine? I've known some old school hot four guys that push 80hp out of a model A engine. I'm a big fan of hot original four cylinders myself.

If i were rich,id come take that off your hands in a second! Cheers!

I love all the videos and am super thankful for what you're doing for the hot rod community, but I'm extra excited for this build and hope there is a lot more content coming. I have a 29 fordor that probably shouldn't be saved based on condition, but its not too far from the sport coupe. Budget and skills are always a challenge on my end, but these videos are some of the most inspiring content on the web!
