The Ford Mustang has a 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged 4-cylinder engine as the base model. Now, there is an optional Performance Package that adds 20hp to the EcoBoost 4-cylinder. bringing the power up to 330hp. The Ford Mustang EcoBoost Performance Pack torque remains the same at 350lb.-ft. The other big addition to this new package is an adaptable sport exhaust that really makes this car sound much better. Just like the Mustang GT, this EcoBoost model is available with MagneRide suspension upgrade and an interior upgrade package that adds the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and improved internal materials. This new 2.3L EcoBoost Performance Pack model is a great update but expensive at $6500 Canadian. It make a good car drive really well but at that price many might want to opt for the Mustang GT 5.0L V8 with 460hp.

Yes, better handling, lower purchase price and lower operating cost - there's a lot to like about the Ecoboost/Performance Pack Mustang; and while yes, the V8 'stangs are faster, the Ecoboost is no slouch on acceleration.

@Armen567
@Armen567 4 жыл бұрын
Motormouth Correct. That’s why I included on a separate line. But the Mustang EcoBoost you tested was not the base. The EcoBoost, like the GT, comes in two primary trims; Fastback and Fastback Premium. The Premium is $4800 more. A base Fastback with the High Performance 330hp package, active exhaust and EcoBoost Handling Package (Torsen 3:55 and Magneride) comes in at $43,080. Opting for the premium with the digital dash (and upgraded interior) with the optional B&O Sound puts the car about $50,000. So if one wanted the EcoBoost with the performance bits, they could save a lot of money foregoing the nicer leather interior, digital dash with nav and the the B&O Sound.

These cars so well perfectly balanced. There was no other car i could find, even when considering the GT, that gives more for the money. Great interior, technology, comfortable. Great turbo and active exhaust noises. Plenty fast. Handles so well you can take turns at like 80. Looks just like any other mustang and looks fantastic. Theres literally not 1 single gripe about it. And for not much money if you dont care about warranty you can get even more out of it with the aftermarket. No other car compares for your money

I own a 2019 GT PP1 with cloth seats, the tiny radio, no selectable drive modes and it was 34,000 , a GT with the same goodies that the ecoobost you're reviewing has(leather seats, entertainment system, digital cluster and active exhaust, etc costs over 40k, not to mention the MPG difference. So yeah you could get a base GT for the same price and if you don't want the interior goodies but , with that fancy interior you wont find a GT at that price point like you mentioned. With the gas prices going up its getting harder and harder to use the GT as a daily driver, I think I'm going to get the 2.3L and get another GT in a few years.

I don’t get it. This car seems like a dream for me. I’m in a SN95 roush new edge. 02. This car is an all around upgrade but slightly heavier but better handling. I’m trying to test drive one myself to see for myself. Currently I really want a facelift brz, or GR86. But I could have a more powerful car and if it handles twisties about as well then I can have my cake and eat it too. And have better mileage than my V8. And a more practical car. Also with flowmasters the roar gets old to me though I also love it. I can never relax in my car. 2nd shift roar and slide or skirt on a corner just excites me every time. Don’t get me wrong I’m not gonna drive the ecoboost reasonably either but at least it won’t egg me on when I’m trying to cruise haha.

Ok, A loaded HPP Mustang @46K vs for the loaded 5.0 @54K. If you plan on actually DRIVING the car, the cost of ownership gets ridiculous. I've had 8 other Mustangs in my life, and yes I loved my old 5.0, but my SVO was a completely different driving experience, and since this is a completely updated version of that car, buying it was a no brainer. With the money I save on the cost of the 5.0, I can easily upgrade this EB to beat up on any stock 5.0 and still have money left over. Do I miss the sound? sure, but I can drive to Florida and STILL get 30mpg. This car is no slouch, it pulls hard and handles very well. It turns heads wherever it goes...No regrets AT all...So, instead of saying "I coulda had a V8", how about review the car that you're driving, not the one you wish you were...

I love the comment that people have said that the “EcoBoost is a sports car, the V8 version is a muscle car”. They’re two different things. And I love my new 2021 High Performance EcoBoost Mustang 6 speed manual in Yellow Peel… Everyone always says “But thu V8 sound!!” as if that’s going to be the sole reason to buy one. Not in my state (Queensland, Australia)…a V8 costs around $1200 a year to register on the road. A four cylinder is only about $750. And I test drove the V8 version. It wasn’t that much better of a car that it was worth the extra costs. I never wake up and think I could have had a V8…

Sorry Motormouth, were you ever informed that this is not a base 2.3L engine? The first item listed in the Mustang Brochure under 2.3L High Performance Package is a 2.3L High Performance EcoBoost I-4 Engine. This is the same 2.3L 350hp engine that was in the Focus RS, the engine was built in Valencia,Spain. You are paying for a different engine that's why the package cost $6500. Again, everyone, this is not your base Cleveland Engine Plant built 2.3L Period..

I would recommend to anyone looking at a vehicle that has a V8 option to go and buy one now. Why? Because V8's are disappearing and that trend is only going to continue, so one day 10+ years from now, you will kick yourself for not having taken the chance to own the sweetest sounding engine. (Ditto for manual transmissions, and even more so.)

Why do so few reviewers not get this car? Think of it as MX5 with guts that you can fit in. There are few cars under $40k CAD that are over 300hp and let you row gears. Personally I wouldn't be caught dead in a 5.0. But this is lighter, cheaper and easier on your wallet insurance wise. It isn't just 20hp either, the power delivery feels much better than the standard ecoboost. Drive them back to back and you will notice the difference immediately. All that said, if you are not getting the stick...then there is more fun elsewhere.

However, this EcoBoost will accelerate faster in the very first few seconds than the GT or even the GT 350. On the highway, it will take some time for the GT and GT350 to catch up. That’s tested and demonstrated on videos. Just saying because I hear all the time how bad turbos are and how good a naturally aspirated engine is. And if you think about it, what gives the fun factor and is more useful in daily life is the initial acceleration. You will not be doing drag races all day long every day

Don't forget to add the performance pack. I'm so glad I have it on my 2019 GT. The Brembo brakes, torsen diff, 3.73 gears (3.55 10 spd auto), upgraded suspension parts, struts, shocks and those Michelin Pilot sport tires are ALL things you will notice and feel during spirited driving. If you look at the Ford mechanics manual there are A LOT of suspension parts that are specific just for the GT performance pack, Almost all of these parts aren't mentioned in the PP option list overview. Well worth it and you will get most of that back during resale (black book value on it $2500 to $3000). Performance pack GT's are quite rare in Canada and highly sought after. Despite getting the performance pack, I've also reinforced the CHASSIS even further with several Steeda parts, IRS support braces, bushings, front undermount chassis brace, springs etc, 305 tires out back, 285's up front etc, She handles like a proper GT3 spec car now. Just an amazing car for the money.

No leather interior which is a waste no heated seat which is a waste but it has the gauge package the toggle switches and the big screen along with sink three and a CD player which is a must for me they stop putting them in until back in 2020 it's an extra option now not worth the money for what they're charging for the upgrade to the CD player performance summer tires 19x9 also rear end temp gauge. For tracking it.if I take it into the dealer I can have a factory tune put on it with warranty bumps the horsepower up to 350 and 375 lb of torque for only 7 to $800. The new 2020 cannot take the new tune like the old ones just letting you know. 😉 PS does not have active exhaust which I like it quiet to sneak up on them. little known fact the higher performance rear spoiler was wind tunnel tested through NASA and at 80 miles an hour it puts 60 lb of downforce on the rear of the EcoBoost Mustang or the GT letting you know that makes a big difference. The rear spoiler they put on this 2020 EcoBoost performance package is a waste of money no function at all. Just bling.lol

This review is incredibly misleading. And you sir are wildly misinformed. To start. The engine is a 2.3l but with forged componenents from the focus rs.. the wheels are an added value. It comes with corsas tires . The pkg also gets gt brakes with slotted rotors. It also gets a monster rear sway bar. Plus the added power and exhaust. The internals alone are hugely valuable in this segment . Also gets a much larger radiator. . Now im in agreement about the price. But you sir have slapped a bunch of people in the face with this information or lack of. This pkg is a huge bundle of parts and has been mis represented here.ahhh forgot it also gets an appearance upgrade. Pony pak grill and tsil emblem as well as a decal pkg on the hood. Lots of goodies here.

@@mike_zilla8604 sorry im late, it depends on you personally there's no way to say for sure. What i dont get is why ford gives the Focus ST and RS heated recaros but couldn't put those in the mustang. For me, ive never had heated or cooled seats in my life so it doesnt bother me since nothing changed. Some people who have had heated and cooled seats will need them or they will feel bad without them. Where i live we have seasons but i can live without the heated and cooled and would rather have the extra snug luxury feeling of the leather recaros. They just feel too amazing. Either seat is fine

This is an amazing car and a much better daily driver than a GT. I would never be happy with a base GT when I can have this much better balanced car with improved fuel mileage and so much fun to drive on twisty roads. Also 6500 hundred gave you a full GT Mustang body ,brakes and suspension with the Focus RS engine with a 355 rear end gearing, it is a lot for the money. It does not look like a plain ecoboost and is a lot of car for the low 50,000 thousand range fully loaded. Gt is a great toy car but not a good daily all weather car.

The GT. We love our V8s down under. No Gt350 or 350r came to Aust. No to the Mach 1 for now also and the Gt500. Prices suck here also. We did get 700 Bullitts at over $72k each. Special build R for Australia $100k. The four cylinder just does not have the magic. Even if it is cheaper $51k plus options.

The GT is great, but for a regular person who drives a half hour to work every day, 31 mpg starts to sound a lot better than 24. You can also bet your insurance will skyrocket with a GT as opposed to a base model gas saver. Gas, insurance, and base price makes the GT less attractive for a daily driver, unless you race your car every day on your way to work.

If you get the standard boost engine you can get a performance pack from ford Performance which increases the hp by 35hp and 76 ft/lb of torque for $675. The performance pack is not covered by ford for the hpp ecoboost but it is for the standard. I think that’s a reasonable price. Much cheaper than 6k.

My question is this: how much is the magneride worth? Is it better to get the GT with the premium package (but without the performance package) or the Ecoboost with the premium, high performance, and handling packages? Because, they're almost the same price.

You’re right! Too much money at $51k. Of course that’s Canadian money. I think it’s closer to $40k US But I purchased a Bullitt last year for about $48k US. That came with 480 hp and Shelby performance bits. The GT350 isn’t cheap and offers less features overall but does have that flat plane crank engine and a Tremec manual for close to $65k similarly optioned Asia my Bullitt. Bottom line is the 4 cyl is not a good deal if you get a premium with same options because it’s too close to GT or Bullitt. GT 350 is a bigger leap financially.

Instead of bragging about its “High Performance 2.3” ... maybe they should have done some minor changes (hood scoop/wing?)and brought back their legendary “SVO” badge. It was not really well received; yet every ‘5 Litre’ owner (mostly LX’s) owner secretly wanted one ... Thanks for another entertaining video.

Heres the heart of the issue the GT base doesnt make enough power for the high performance pack to shine meaning they could have went with a twin turbo set up with a slightly larger second turbo and the stock twinscroll and made over 400 horse power but then no one would buy the GT but V8 purists and yeah you can spend 10k and get a whipple stage 2 installed to make 850 with the V8 but thats way too much power for most people and 400 horse power for a low thirty thousand dollar car is a bargain.
