Here’s my take on why no lap times. 1) Ford isn’t going to tip its hand to the competition. 2) They spent a lot of time dialing in the car. For a completely new vehicle with all its aero that takes some time. 3) Lap times during warmer weather will be faster due to many factors and I suspect, they saw times get longer as the area cooled. So, they will resume in the spring and we’ll see an official lap time by summer. IMO it will be a sub 7 minute time but, how far under is TBD.

Manthey Racing is a Porsche subsidiary similar to the Mercedes AMG relationship. As such they maintain the factory warrenty and are considered factory vehicles. Porsche owns 51%.

Ya, the new GT500 is much more track focused and more powerful. I think it would be under 7:20. Unfortunately Ford has never cared to get lap times at the Ring. It would be interesting to see the Ford GT and shelby models. I'm certain the Ford GT could do it, and the track only limited editions of the GT could do around 6:45.

The Viper ACR that were used were racing cars and didnt have number plates. Also its incredible how America wants that sub 7 lap. But you can go to the Ring and BUY a sub 7 lap from a professional Ring driver on a good day. They do it all the time.

The ACR ran a 7:01 on a hot lap using kuhmo V720s. A better tire such as a Cup2R or trofeo RS is a better track tire. GTD , GT3RS, and GT2RS all use the Cup2R for obvious reasons , they are more durable and more aggressive tread

As the proud owner of a 2018 GT2 RS Weissach w/magnesium wheels (with SS braided brake lines, pagic racing brake pads and MR Aero bits, not including the wheel discs) and as an Aerospace Engineer with a large American defense contractor I am tremendously impressed with the effort Ford went thru to build and front engine Mustang with a rear transaxle to try and set a sub 7 minute 'Ring time. i don't know what the GTD weighs but if it isn't under 3,200 lbs you are going to be at a disadvantage.

I think Ford will achieve the target, which will be excellent! I think the Corvette C8 Z06 is a little faster than the current time of 7:10 or 20, whichever that was. The time is still not a dissapointment, the driver went home with his vehicle in 1 piece. The ZL1 should definitely not be interesting to hear about. As far as the Narrative if this video, one has to remember Fords verbalized target. Compete with GT3, and they specify "production" car. So fro. The cars on the list in this video, it is car number 10, which will be sub 7 minute if they reach the goal. That will be awesome! This guy who comments has typically been a GM guy, but he does root for Ford in this. Go Ford!

Yes, the viper is king. Apparently, Fords big bragging has backfired in their face as the gt40 and gtd didn't come anywhere close to the 7 minute mark. Btw, the gt500 only did a 7.39. The gtd is a purpose built track car at 320k, which should easily put it in the 6.30 range.

I think that they are going to have to breakout the lap record into hybrid/electric cars and ice only cars. The electric motors just give an incredible advantage in torque over a non-electric car. I doubt that any conventionally powered car can compete. It does not matter who makes it!

Wow...🙄 The fastest Telsa only does the Ring in 7:25, even with over 1000 hp, instant torque as well. 27😮 seconds behind is already just bush league b.s. as it is, and furthermore it's just cringy embarrassing for a car with all that instant torque and hp. The Porsche 991.2 GT3 does the Ring in 6:58, with only 493 hp. In case Tesla and EV fan bois aren't aware, tenths of a second per lap separates 1st place from the rest of the top ten in Formula 1, and a mere second per lap is an eternity. The Tesla is 27 SECONDS behind the ICE Porsche! The Tesla isn't even remotely competitive, not even in the same ball park, and it would get lapped repeatedly. The Tesla is much, much slower than the Porsche, despite the Porsche only having less than half the power. Let that "sink in"!

991.2 GT2RS is not heavily modified , MR is official package dealer can install on the car on request it’s include carbon discs on rear wheels, some aerodynamic bits, and different springs and dumpers , also different compound brake pads, exhaust and engine is not tuned or modified, so it’s is factory car lake corvette with zo6 package. All I get from your video is that gtd did not get record and went back empty handed, maybe next year

It's not like the ZO7 package at all. The ZO7 package is a factory option. The car just might not ship with the wing or bits like that attached for protection. You can configure it online on Chevy's website. You can do that online. Manthey Racing is literally a separate company.

@@got_gt3612 Manthey Racing is majority owned by Porsche because they have a 51% stake in its stocks. They still operate independently though. Changes to suspension and brakes and things of that nature are significant modifications that can make a big difference. Being heavily modified is more than just added a lot of power. To say Ford will never beat it though is ignorant. In manufacturer with racing pedigree can build a car to be faster. It's a matter of how invested they are. If Ford can beat Ferrari in racing leagues why do so many think it's impossible for them to build a faster road car? Porsche is not unbeatable.

If you followed the GTD testing at the Nürburgring. The day Ford was scheduled to attempt their timed lap with a camera car was rainy and cold. It was impossible for attempting a record lap. Try doing some research.

One lap is one thing.. a track weekend of punishment? Can’t wait to see that ! … so far in my track lapping club…the most reliable cars are Porsche! The new C8 ZR1 will kill the GTD buuuut! Ford didn't build the GTD. The Canadian company MultiMatic built it. And engineered it. Ford pays for all this, but Ford engineers are not the brains behind it. Ford outsourced that to others. Great car, but not a Ford engineered product.

altohugh technicalities are at play, I think the GTD (although incredible) is as much of a production car as the GT2RSMR. It is built for purpose, not unlike everyone who said the Radical SR8 laptime wasn't a road car when it went under 7 minutes 19 years ago. TRhe GTD is an incredible and amazing thing and yes I would love one, but it really isn't a "production car" any more than an AMG One is. They are limited run special machines. Just my opinion, and yesI think this will beat the GT2RS, and then the battle will continue and Porsche will take it back again in the not too distant future.

The MR isn't a production car, it's an Add on catalog option which you get after purchasing the car from Porsche, the Mustang GTD is built and made by Ford and Multimatic and sold by Ford exclusively, you can't buy a Mustang and go to Multmatic and ask them to turn it into a GTD. It's not the same, and even officials claim that the MR Porsche is not an official lap record by the stock Porsche 911 GT3 RS, many car review websites claim the same thing. What my or your opinion of it is, doesn't change that.

Porsche GT 2 RS MR was the "fastest street legal" currently with a mark at 6:40.2 (from Porsche website). There is no way a street legal mustang will get close to that mark. The problem with the GTD is that its priced at were hypercars are priced and will be sold in limited numbers to ford special customers. These collectors will then sell them at huge profits and the cars will sit in private collections. A waste of time to even make a video about it. Corvette Z06 seems a lot more approachable - we'll see about the ZR1. Rumors have the C8 ZR1 at $200K - and I'm sure the dealers will mark it up from there.

Hey I just wanted say that the 2020 gt500 was never tested at the Nurburgring that was the time of the 2014 gt500 which was 7:39 also the gt350r is the fastest mustang at the Nurburgring which is 7:15 also the 2016+ ford gt was also never tested

I’m curious when did the Mustang GT350R set a timed Lap of 7:15 at the Nurburgring?? because it’s definitely not documented anywhere that I can find . @fastestlaps shows all the fastest documented Lap Times. I see where the Camaro ZL1 1LE ran 7:16….I don’t ever recall Ford releasing a Lap time for the GT350R at the Ring. And I’m pretty sure the ZL1 1LE is a quicker car on a Road Course then the GT350R.

Well at my track in the longest straight…most cars including race cars hit 235-245 klm (in Canada so metric) in my GT2RS without the manthey upgrade I’ve reached 275 klm …I’m not a professional.. more like gear head weekend warrior…obviously on Hoosiers it’s where I catch up to many pros .. never raced but have been a track lapping guy for the past 25 years… have 5 track cars ..

Its going to take a lot more than sub 7 minutes to beat the european cars. The gt3 rs gets sub 7 minutes easy, just cruising in the nordschleife and AMG holds the top 2 track records. For 350k dollars, it better go below 7 minutes, otherwise its useless.

Agreed on the time, its in the same time window as the C7 ZR1 .....fast but not capable of a sub 7m run!!! The C8 ZR1 has probably already broken the 7m mark during prototype testing and as we know GM doesn't like to talk lap time numbers for the Corvette!! Whats needed is a privateer to get their hands on one and set an official time, I predict somewhere around the 6:40 mark!!! The Mustang is not capable of that only the Ford GT can push the Vette!!!
