Ford Ranger slosh module myth?

My fuel gauge will only read half tank for about 30 miles and then slowly go to empty. I have read a few things about the slosh module behind the cluster and thought I'd take a look. I think I have found my issue to be the sending unit. Hopefully I helped someone out or saved someone some time!

I just did the exact same thing, I'm thinking maybe the traces on the plastic are the culprits. My next move is actually replacing the whole cluster without removing the original slosh board to see if that works before I have to lift the bed to check the sending unit. Thanks for the info bud.

I just put electrical tape over the contacts on the anti-slosh module and it works. It will move a little back and forth when I stop, because of the fuel sloshing back and forth but it give correct readings.

That’s the same as just taking the module out. It moves when you stop because it’s “sloshing”. Hence, slosh module.

@@thebak4d my gauge didn’t work when I took it out. I had to tape over it and put the module in and then it worked. I don’t know why, but that’s how it played out.

Makes sense. But I think taping the certain terminals defeats the whole purpose of the module. The other terminals are probably just the 12v pulse to the gauge. To make it “work”. Best bet to change the pump I’d guess. That worked for me.

@@thebak4d my pump works great. The only way I could get the gauge to show any gas was to tape it

I have a 95 XLT 3.0 v6 auto and the temp gauge always is above the halfway mark on start up and the fuel gauge is stuck at just above half tank and does not move.

You should swap your module out. When I was messing around with them, I was purposely shorting 2 of the leads together and I would get reactions like that, gauges would max out. Half. Bottom out. Give it a shot.

I jumped the signal wire from tank to SIG on gauge, blocked the other two from the slosh board. Back in business. God bless

You have to solder 2 copper traces on the cluster panel...throw the antislosh board in the garbage..

@@thebak4d I'll have to take my cluster apart..it's been 2 yrs...but the problem is the flex circuit board oxidizes ..where the slosh PCB goes in to the cluster..I'll get back soon as possible..mine has worked ever since..

I'm sorry, I couldn't watch your incredibly slow and barely helpful video. I skipped to the end and see you apparently fixed nothing. So I guess the myth is why would someone post this to youtube? Please think before sharing. and edit out all the time wasting driving down the road. A good video would be about 2-3 minutes

Thanks for the input Jimbo! I’ll be sure to let you screen my videos from here on out. Go ahead and watch the other videos of people telling you to tape the module up so you can find out it doesn’t work yourself. But hey. Now you know that you’d be wasting your time to tape up the back of your dash board huh? Would be a shame if you didn’t see this video to know you’d be wasting your time ripping the gauge cluster out- like I did apparently. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
