Do you still have it? I just did the same, 2017 XLT F150 for a 2019 FX4 Lariat. So far has been great, adjusting to every dimension being smaller but overall everything I wanted is better. Much easier to drive and park for sure.

Had the same dilemma. Size won over all. Didn’t need the full size truck towing and full size parking anguish. Mostly city driving and the quick and agile Ranger won my vote. 2019 lariat fx4 sport in magnetic and looks great in my driveway.

Jason Burnham I agree with you Jason. I love the ride of my F150 but it is a land yacht. I hate the price but the Colorado and Taco are priced equally high. I paid $13,000 new for my 2002 Ranger...times have changed.

Comparing a new vs used situation is always a little askew. A big point not mentioned here is that a new Ranger comes with a warranty, and you don't have to figure out at your own expense what the previous owner did to the F-150. That being said, In America, the F-150 is a more utilitarian purchase than a ranger. Plus since everyone buys f-150's, you can get a lot more variety compared to a Ranger. The Ranger is more for the adventure lifestyle type (the Wrangler and Tacoma Bro). Anywhere else in the world, the Ranger makes 1000% more sense than an F-150, but in America, yeah get an F-150. Personally I'm biased towards the Ranger, It's a nice truck.

But for people who want a truck midsize truck to drive around town, go off-roading on some tight trails, or only need a bed a couple days out of the year, the Ranger is great! I’ve had 4 Rangers before, and loved them all. Every one was a great truck, that were very reliable. When I heard Ford was bringing them back, I planned to buy another one as soon as they were available. But when I learned the only engine offered was going to be a 4 cylinder ecoboost, I bought a new F150 super cab 4x4 V8 instead. Very glad I did. Love the comfort and room of the bigger truck, love the power of that V8, and I average 20 MPG, which is the same as the turbo 4 cylinder Ranger. To me, that makes it a no brainer. Also, when you factor in the $5000 rebate, and the $4500 discount off MSRP I got, they were even the same price! At the same price and same gas mileage, who would buy the Ranger?

I just got my brand new Ranger Lariat Supercab 4X4 this week. to replace my Ranger Supercab 4X4 I bought new in '04, I'm loving it more every day. Yeah it was expensive but I'm worth it. If your worried about gas mileage buy a Prius.

I have an 08 and a 19, the 19 is probably the nicest vehicle I've ever had. Drives like a dream, quiet, reliable, and getting mid 20's MPG (hand calculated). My 08 gets around 16-18, tows less, smaller bed, and more cramped all around 🤦🏼‍♂️

I bought the 2019 Ranger, we do a lot of off road driving, climb 14ers in Colorado. The F-150 is too big to fit on some of the trails we have to drive on. I'm coming from a 1994 super cab Ranger, with 386.000 miles, and love the little more room in the new Ranger. The 10 speed automatic should be much better than the 5 speed manual the 94 had in the back country.

I'm a little late to the party but I had a 2016 F150 Extended cab with the 5.0. My woman and I were expecting a little one, so I traded in for the 2020 Ranger. While I miss my F150 and that V8, I cant deny how the Ranger fits in the city with a baby. I have room for the wife, the baby, and the dogs, I get great gas mileage, and getting around in a city with tight parking spaces is a lot easier. Great video as always guys!

Just bought a 2020 XLT FX4 in silver. I priced out the same options on a new F-150 before buying and, even with incentives, it still came out about 5,000 more than my Ranger. I actually stepped down from a full size truck to get this one, and I don't regret it one bit. Power isn't an issue at all, and it seems to hold a deer or hog carcass just fine in the 5 foot bed :D

Great video! I'm so glad this video exists because I just test drove a new 2020 Ford Ranger, 2020 Toyota Tacoma Sr5 4 cylinder engine, and a Tacoma TRD Sport V6. For the price of the V6 Tacoma, I could get a full size truck and the 4 cylinder engine on the Taco's lag and are unresponsive compared to the Ranger's 2.7 2.3 L 4 turbo charged eco boost engine. Now I am considering an older used F-150 with the same monies as a new 2020 Ford Ranger. It's a tough decision and glad this video helps a lot!

That fitting in the garage thing was key to my purchase. Love my 2019 used lariat with off road package. Its small enough to easily fit through narrow passes of branches and bramble. The F150 would be battered and bruised. Lol.

If you need something that can fit in tight spaces downtown AND fit in tighter spots off road, the ranger ends up being the more all around capable truck (with a leveling kit and some KO tires).

When the lease finished on my 2016 F150 I just got a new Ranger SuperCrew XLT FX4 and for me I just love the Ranger. It’s my favorite vehicle I’ve ever gotten. It’s so much more fun to drive and I appreciate the trim size.

I had a 92 regular cab ranger 4x4 with a 5 speed standard with a 2.9 liter. I put 31 inch tires under it and that truck was freaking awesome. I took it places were people wouldn't take their full size trucks. I also had a 2006 fx4 ranger. A light truck with a 4 liter engine, lots of power for such a light truck.

Both have advantages as you point out. I have the Supercrew F150, biggest downside for me it won't fit in my garage. But love the interior space. The Ranger would be the way to go if you don't need to haul larger payloads. A lot of people say the Ranger is too pricey, but you won't pay the list prices you see quoted. Same goes for the F150. Both very nice.

I like the new Ranger. I owned, i think was an 06, FX4 level 2 with the 4.0. That truck was a beast. Hit a deer and got rear ended by a small car, no damage to either bumper. Need to bring back the 4.0.

I bought a 2017 F150 XLT Special Edition for a lot less than a new Ranger. I bought it just as the Rangers were being released. I couldn't believe how expensive the Rangers were. I was excited because I learned how to drive on an '86 Ranger and my first vehicle was an '88 Ranger. Thought I was going to be able to get back in a Ranger but upgraded to the F150, it was better in EVERY way!

I went with a Lariat Ranger. The F150 just takes up too much room in the garage. That said, Ford could offer more incentives on the Ranger...cost is high! Ranger seems small next to the F150, but this new Ranger is huge compared to my 1997 Ranger. (which I still have)

I'm taking the ride and comfort of my 2018 F150 over the few times where it was tight maneuvering my tanker around. If I was off-roading more, I might favor the Ranger as it fits tight trails much better. I also note that I regularly have to fit 4 "regular size" adults in the back seat to avoid taking 2 cars when going to dinner, etc. while visiting family. A Ranger is not pulling that off. In my younger days, I would have chosen the Ranger every time though.

The rangers we have down here in Australia have either a 200hp 3.2litre 5 cylinder turbo diesel which does combined 35mpg and the 214hp 2litre biturbo 4 cylinder diesel does 40mpg combined. Not huge power numbers but they get the job done with ease. Also our ranger looks way better than what they have done to the US model. And we get the raptor😁. To buy a brand new right hand drive converted F150 down here costs anything North of $130k where an xlt ranger you can get for less than $50k

The new Ranger certainly checks a lot of boxes for most, however in my opinion it’s not quite there on performance, looks and styling. I’ve put 5 customers in the new Ranger the past couple months, and each was an senior/elderly male. The cabin experience is somewhat crammed, and the 2.3Eco has the worst turbo lag out of any Ford models. To get standard amenities out of the Ranger, Lariat trim is a must. They ARE tremendously overpriced currently, I don’t recommend anyone purchase one unless rebates are greater than $7,000

I owned a 1999 Ford ranger ext cab stepside 4x4 for 6 years and 100k miles. Great truck. But I was ready for an upgrade. Got me a 2015 Ford F150 XL sport 4x4 super cab with the coyote V8 and sport appearance package. Never looked back. The new ranger is a nice truck for those who are looking for a compact pickup. Love the blue!

I looked at both, but decided on the F-150 (new.) The Ranger was just slightly too small: I needed to consider carting around adult sized people in the rear seat, and the limo-sized rear passenger space in the F-150 won the deal. I optioned in Katzskins and BLIS in the XLT, and it's pretty sweet. Note that after 1,000m, I am not seeing anywhere close to 26 mpg Hwy on my 2.7V6, and combined is about 19 mpg.

Appreciate the details on the break over angle, etc. The bigger truck seems like more for the buck, BUT if you drive around a lot on smaller roads that bigger size is no help if you do not need it. If you are towing 5-6,000 pounds max once and a while, the Ranger can do it fine. No great mpg gain in the ranger is the real bummer. But, in the end, will take the Ranger for its ease of moving around in tighter spaces.

Been straddling this exact debate constantly going back and forth between midsize vs full size. Great vid. I want a roomy midsize with great trim but I think the F-150 is the way to go in this case. The Ranger is too expensive for what you get. No bonus to fuel economy, doesn't have the interior space. Bed size really doesn't matter (trailer) but the towing capacity may. This is a truck for someone with a small garage that can whip it in a parking spot that may own a jet ski.

Lol what? I can tow a jet ski with my Cruze. That ranger can tow a mini excavator, Kubota tractor, etc. with ease. Aside from a large camper or large enclosed trailer with tons of stuff in it, there is little the ranger can't do that the f150 can. Especially considering they have literally the same transmission.

7500lbs towing is massive. That is a big boat brother. The ranger is far more capable to meet the needs of the average person. Most “average” lake boats probably weigh 5000lbs trailer included.

I have 3 2020 rangers that I use for my lawncare business, they pull a lawncare trailer with no problem, and they're compact , which is a necessity to be able to park in tight spaces and not be in the way of traffic

My 2006 Harley Ed. F150 was getting " long in tooth"..was waiting on the either the new Ranger or the diesel F150. Finally chose a lightly used 2015 F150 2.7 Ecoboost Sport. Just couldn't warm up to a smaller Ford or the "pokey" diesel but glad they're out there. No regrets here!

Serious question. I’m looking to buy a new vehicle. It will be used every day to do deliveries putting in around 40 miles on freeway and 60 miles doing frequent stops, equaling about 100 every single day. Deliveries are no hauling or nothing heavy. If I wanted a smaller tuck I would go with a tacoma over a ranger, I was looking at a ranger the other week before I got a steal on a used 2017 F150. It had minor hail damage so I got it for about 10k less than similarly equipped used f150s. Love it so far!

either truck would work for me, however the Ranger would fit my lifestyle better simply because of its convenient size, 99% of the time its just me and my wife and groceries and I dont haul large trailers or yachts. A v6 (2.7) would be a great option

I really wanted a new Ranger (I had a 2013 F150 XLT 3.5 EB) but when it came time to drop the hammer, I went with a 2019 F150 XLT 2.7 EB. With all the incentives, etc, I got everything I wanted on the lot for less than I would have had to pay to order (or wait) for a comparable Ranger. The new truck has the 5.5 bed vrs my 2013 which had a 6.5 bed so I did come down in size some 😁.

I got a 2009 4.0 Ranger that still runs great. I just bought a brand new 2018 3.5 F150. I still love my Ranger. I buy trucks for trucks, nothing else. I don't buy them to be "cool." I used my Ranger as a truck, now I use my F150 as a truck. My F150 is a high end XL model, that is made for work and for people who know how to drive a truck. Unlike most modern day trucks.

@@mattbrophy1900 Nice! I had a 96 ranger with 518K on it. My family had an intervention and made me get another truck. I got the same thing, only newer! Lol. 4.0, automatic, loaded. My 96 was a total strippy truck. It had 4 wheel and air. No carpet, no power anything, manual trans. Still one of my favorite vehicles. The 2010 is the nicest truck I've ever owned. Hoping to get another half million out of it. I'm out shooting in the desert almost every weekend. Love having something that fits my lifestyle.

I had a 2016 F-150 XLT 2wd 5.0 nice truck it got 19 -21 mpg in town driving. Bought a 2019 Ranger XLT 2wd it gets 30 plus all the way to 34.5 mpg in town driving and the Ranger fits in the garage that's a nice thing keeping it out of the Arizona sun and heat. You can't go wrong with either truck.

F-150 KING OF TRUCKS love it. It’s fast however the fuel economy is definitely not as advertised but I have a heavy foot. Maybe because it’s fast though. Size is good. I still have my 99 F150 Lariat that I am handing down to my son. Getting in I have to duck my head because I keep the seat up high and have hit my head a few times. I don’t need a full size truck anymore so this works great. I spend a ton of time on the road and it is extremely comfortable. Anything else let me know. I paid $40k which is shocking to me but once in it it does drive like a luxury car.

You can get a slightly less optioned F150 new for the same money as the ranger.

The 2020 f150 max tow for the same price is 9000. You have to pay extra for upgraded engine and tow package. Every ranger can pull 7500 however. The ranger tow package is just a 7 pin connector and a class iv hitch. I got the blind side extensions, tow mode, 4 pin connector, and sway assist standard in my ranger xlt. I just bought my own class III hitch and had a shop put it on for 50 bucks. Its 4 bolts, in and out, but it takes a pneumatic impact drill and mines electric.

150 all the way except i live in Hawaii where the highway lanes are 2 feet narrower and so are the parking stalls. Heck if you go to the mall and don't want your sides all bashed and scratched opt for the Harley sportster, so even though i love 150 it would be ranger for me.

The Ranger has never had a bed as big as the F150. That said Rangers have never been so close to F150s in price. I had a 2001 Ranger, my first car. Thing was cheap and basic and that's why I liked it so much even though I liked my 2011 F150 more later on. Now the Nissan Frontier is the only basic and "cheap" mid size pickup which sucks because it is absolutely the most feminine truck on the market. Even the Ranger XL has too much loaded into it. I wish they would've kept the body style and offered the 3.7 as a base model engine along with strip some features like the 360 assist. Looks like I'll never buy a truck new though, maybe not even a Mustang. Everything is getting too expensive to buy new.

Hands down the F-150. When I was at the dealership about a month ago ordering my 2019 F-150 there was a Ranger Lariat in the showsroom. It didn't impress me at all. Hate the Ranger. When I was talking with the finance guy I asked him if the Ranger is selling well. He said he just got back from vacation and didn't know but that the Ranger has a higher price than the F-150 so probably not.

Did an extended test drive (over the weekend) in a 2WD Lariat Ranger. Power was pretty good, felt like a large V6, but hated the ride. It drove like a mushy Honda Civic and the radio screen is angled too far forward. The sun washed out the screen to where you couldn't see it. Bought an over-stock 2018 F150 4door with the 3.5 eco for $600 less than what the Ranger was going for, lol.

I own a 2016 F-150 2.7 eco boost 4X4. Same fuel economy with a lot more room. You always want more truck than not enough. The only reason to buy Ranger is for big city life.

I think I go for the size of the F-150. I like both trucks, but you can find a brand new, optioned out F-150 heavily discounted because Ford sells so damn many of them. Go at the right time. November-December on a Monday at the end of either month. The dealer needs to make their money for that month and the year so you are likely to get a sweet deal. Also, very rarely is there someone shopping around on a Monday.
