Without getting into history...this would be the perfect Motor/Trans pull from a wrecked Ranger. I was looking for a wrecked 2.3 from a current gen mustang. I’d rather find this and install it in my 72 Pinto than do what I did back in the 80’s with my 76. Install it and forget about it. Sure, snatching a motor out of an old Merkur XR4Ti, SVO or Thunderbird Turbo Coupe back in the day, and building it up with Esslinger Engineering parts, was the program back then - but one of these motors in stock form (with a tune) is good enough for me. A 10 speed auto - you bet.

can't argue with the speed gains. but, i see some problems. stock torque curve is much flatter than with the new tune. after peak torque, the torque drops off pretty quick on the tune. also, it looks like the full throttle shift points are appx 5,500 rpm, which is after the tuned hp is starting to fall off. once again, the gains are nice. but, i think they could clean it up some more. i'd also like to see the air/fuel ratios.
@Marbind5 жыл бұрын
When torque goes that high early it means that the turbo is tiny. Not much can be done to flatten it up without upgrading the turbo. Also power going out after 5,500rpm is also related to a tiny turbo. Will it be faster shifting earlier? It has to be tested. Sometimes works sometimes doesn’t. The difference is very little. Based on my own experience. I have a car with a similar torque curve.

LMAO, tow a trailer up Ike with a 93 octane tune? Great idea. Let's watch TFL load a Ranger with blown engine and a trailer behind it onto a recovery truck on the Ike Gauntlet. Hopefully traffic isn't too insane that day.

My 2011 ranger 4.0 is tuned 94 octane and upgraded exhaust and intake and I am pushing 250 to wheels and a tad over 400ft lb in torque. With the manual it grabs the gears and rips 2gear all the way to 65mph. Not the quickest but huge improvement before the injectors and turbo system gets tested out. My goal is to make it how ford would have made a lariat or act trim in 2011 s last model for the us. Great job on the video guys. Very neat to get that power out of a 4 cyl

5 star has upped there game a bit it looks like. I had a 91 octane performance tune from them in my 16 3.5 EcoBoost F150 and didnt notice any difference. I found Southern Speed Inc or SSI and tried one of there tunes vs 5 star, difference was night and day. SSI was like adding a supercharger on top of 5 star. I will always be a SSI customer for life.

icing on the cake, this would probably not affect MPG at all unless you are always on it. Keeping EGTs down while towing could be an issue with the tune, which is easily solved with a larger exhaust. This single video has changed my mind on the ranger, what a beast

@gordonbombay6765 жыл бұрын
Technically a tuned more efficient engine should get better MPG if you keep your foot out of it. Also some companies do 87 octane economy tunes, idk if 5 star does, but that's nothing new.

So I noticed that the tuner allowed the RPM to increase by 500 RPM. It looked like it went 250 RPM beyond red line. Not something you would like to do on a regular basis.
@lethargicstove20243 жыл бұрын
It's a average sized 4 cylinder it could probably hit like 6500 rpm easy but not make any power up high most naturally aspirated Ford engine for example NA 3.5l V6 can rev to 7,000 rpm however a turbo 3.5 struggles to rev above 6,000 that's usually how Ford turbo engines are tuned

Wow...more than I expected with just a tune. Wonder how much more is available with just intake and exhaust mods? The no void warranty comments at the end seem too good to be true...would you verify that by interviewing someone at Ford?
@pryme20135 жыл бұрын
Will certainly void the warranty lol
@David-rx2to5 жыл бұрын
@Mr M....Well, that's not what the fellow from the tuning company said but, he has motivation to bend the truth considering what he is selling...that's why I want to hear it from a Ford rep. Seems a little shady if he suggests returning it to stock tune when/if it goes back to a Ford dealer for any work...seems like he's trying to hide something.
@ze3bar5 жыл бұрын
@@pryme2013 from a legal point of view it doesn't void the warranty but the dealerships can you use the tune as a reason to deny certain warranty claims because changing certain parameters will have caused the issue being claimed under warranty
@sergeantspeed59415 жыл бұрын
Absolutely will void your warranty. You blow the turbo, transmission, rear end, and they find out you tuned it, they'll just tell you that you willingly overstressed the truck and to get lost. Then your truck goes into the database and good luck ever getting fixed again.
@David-rx2to5 жыл бұрын
@Sergeant Speed...key comment you made...(if) "they find out you tuned it"...it's totally being dishonest and probably criminal but, if you return it to the stock tune (if that would even be possible with a blown engine) before getting it back to the dealer, and then claiming (lying) it blew while stock, will they be able to tell it was tuned?

IDK about his warranty claim, I know for a fact, if the engine is damaged on a Mustang, Ford knows the engine was tuned due to a tune footprint in the ecu and Ford will deny the warranty claim. If the alternator or something like that fails, they will cover under warranty but, not a engine failure with a tune. So, buyer beware....
@ALMX5DP5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think he left out the part where the Ford supplement states something to the effect of "unless the part is believed to contribute to the mechanical fault" in which case you're SOL. And being a tune affects engine, transmission and ECU (the most expensive aspects of the vehicle), yeah if there's an issue, Ford will most definitely be denying your claim.
