He has had this idea since the early 2000's but the availability of batteries and management systems, etc has been sparse. But now more and more companies are getting into this newly found industry and creating electric drivetrains for older classics. So many cool cars can be on the road again in a way they never thought possible! How many old rusted out cars that don't run, engine or transmission mission or whatever the case is. I dream of one day being able to get an electric converted late 50's or early 60's American luxury car (doesn't really matter whether it is a Cadillac, a Plymouth or something else), because they seem absolutely perfect as electric cars: designed specifically to go around 55 mph for hours on end, in extreme comfort, and the engines and gearboxes are likely so heavy that even a long range conversion wouldn't change the weight noticeably, especially combined with a more modern AC system. I’ve always admired the look of classic cars, but driving them are always a hassle, speaking from experience. Making resto-modded classic cars with electric motors are basically the best of both worlds. I certainly would get one if I had the money for it.

Ohhh, that's super cool... We need more cars like this. On the dash: they _could_ have made an entire dash that emulated the original and made all the features buttons and knobs and all, but that's probably not something everyone wants. I would have a lot of enjoyment from a cockpit full of buttons, but I think they pulled off the look very well. Hopefully they'll consider making new cars with the old style exteriors

Kudos to ford, I like it a lot. Also read an article today, that they are encouraging 3D printed mods to their cars (pretty cool too imho), quite the opposite to Honda, who sent out a take-down notice to sites hosting 3d printable models that are compatible to their cars.

The Maverick even has QR Codes with links on what you can 3D print. Of course, Ford will happily sell you accessories that fit in the same spot, but they give the full files to make your own!

2 days ago i asked my wife, " do you see car culture in the US laying too much longer with the more bland styles and technologies of EVs?" This is amazing! Albeit I didn’t get the opportunity to drive the original 1978 model, I can imagine how cool a truck it was at the time. Electrify everything, with custom matte black wraps and wheels. Sometimes, we go backward in order to take a massive step forward. S/O to Ford. Please reconsider shipping this!

I assume that a conversion from old body parts with new system wouldn't easily work under the banner of a 'new' vehicle due to the additional safety features that have since been mandated, so I think it'd be pretty difficult to keep the body the same and not beefing it up with crash structures or airbags etc, hence why Ford probably isn't planning for this to go into production as is
