You make a very good point, and yes, it's the toughest factory truck and not the toughest truck ever built in history. HOWEVER, the truck is designed specifically to compete in the Trophy Stock class of the Baja 1000 with just a rollcage installed, so you could consider it race-ready.

@killersushi99 we asked about that. Ford doesn't offer a Manual in their other F-150's, and re-engineering one specifically for Raptor would have been cost-prohibitive.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I will offer some evidence: Ford brought 10 trucks to Borrego Springs desert for media days. Over 5 days in 110 degree heat, run as hard as can be over varied desert terrain, not a single truck so much as got a flat tire or a single scratch on it, with average (read: journalist) drivers behind the helm. No parts failures, tire failures, suspension failures, nothing at all broke on any of the trucks. These things are as tough as any factory truck, ever.

My mom runs a landscaping business, so we have used out pickup to its fullest. I have a feeling that the F-150 Raptor will be less capable for those needs thanks to its shorter bed. Interestingly, I would buy it in a heartbeat because it looks fantastic and has the name Raptor!

Troy dejesu They actually took a bailout, just not from the government. Their bailout came in the form of loans from banks, similar to the loans the US government gave to Chevy and Chrysler. After Ford took the loans from the banks the market was coming down and the banks would not give loans to either Chevy or Chrysler. The US Government stepped in and gave loans not just to save those two corporations, but also to save all of the other companies that are supported by manufacturing contracts. Those contracts are for parts for Chevy, Chrysler, and Ford products often built by the same manufacturer. Just think any aftermarket part, or even factory parts. If two of those three go under, then all of those contracts vanish too. Those companies that supply parts lose 2/3 of their business. That is why the US Government stepped in and gave loans to the auto manufacturers, and they only did so after the Banks refused to give the loans having already loaned to Ford. ... there is a *lot* of context to the issue that has to be considered, not just that there were bailouts. PS I'm a Ford man ... 3 Mustangs and an F150 ...

there is one comming to my local dealer in the end of october! I will be buying one if it has the 6.2!!! I have an 08 with the 5.4 and it is a little underpowered with the 34" tall tires and the 3.73 that is in it now. I will have one before next spring if ford gets there shit together and starts producing them with the upgraded engine. At my A-plan price it is the same price as my FX4 I currently own.

No one offers a manual on a full-size pickup anymore.They all do on their smaller ones but if you want a full-size, you have to get an automatic. I wish they would offer this with a manual though. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

clearly you missed the point of this review. of course there are cars that are better off road than the raptor, especially some custom built trucks. The point of the Raptor is that you can do 90% of what a purpose-built trophy truck can do, and also use it as a comfortable, reliable daily driver in normal city or suburban driving conditions. On pavement the Raptor will pull .85g, which is better than many luxury sedans. I put 6,000 miles on the Raptor in total comfort, and then did 100 on dirt.

@sobhi56 the 6.2 comes out later this year (in the 2010) i think late summer early fall and i think it'll have 411HP i do know that when they first talked about the 6.2 it was going to have 500 HP and now they dropped it to 411 but i think you might be right with 405 i wish i had the money to buy one i have an 04 F-150 FX4 and i'd like to get it lifted but oh well i can wait... FORD IS # 1
