I reckon all the vehicles with the touch screen displays and almost wide screen TV, should have them removed. I can remember when the fad for in car entertainment began. Put a screen in and occupy the kids. It was illegal to place them visible by the driver. Now we have $1100 fines for using your phone. But by all means fit a 3ft screen in front of the driver, with continual visual content running. And annoying touch screen activation. Why not go the whole hog. Play adverts and re digitalised copies of Donna does Dallas. Who needs to look where they are going anyway. Fit them in your Tesla, hit auto pilot and sit back and watch the movie. Until the parked car jumps out, or those bloody mobile trees. But as all accidents are caused by speed it won't be a problem. As the road toll rises just reduce the speed limit again. It will soon be quicker to walk. Brilliant idea, zero emissions. The government could be on to something there.

Back when Milton Morris was transport minister for two terms ? quite by accident ( because some one pulled out ) I ended up being part of a group from BMF in A which eventually morphed into FAM ( Federation of Australian Motorcyclist ). I was conscripted from the Kogerah motor registry where having successfully done a couple of U turns in the very small car park without hitting anything or putting ones feet on the ground I managed to do a lap of the block ( all 500 yards of it ) without exceeding the speed limit so I was granted my motorcycle riders learners permit . The deputation was 3 people. ME = motorcycling of the future a chap probably in his 30's or 40's = motorcycling present and another person who was in fact 82 and was to hand his back = motorcyclist of the past at the photo op that never happened . What they proposed was to bring in a national scheme where we progressed from cycle motors up to formula 1 race cars with lights & blinkers via an annual assessment of our proficiency an an increasingly difficult written & driven test ( yes we wrote in those days ) as a reward if we had managed to go a full year without coming under the attention of Mr Plod so it became a rewards system for good driving rather than a penalty system for bad driving . It was & still is a brilliant scheme particularly because one would be 19 and finished high school , before one could drive a car with another person in it other than an "instructor " who has a license for that class of vehicle ( licenses would from thence on be called a permit so we are given permission to drive not exercising a god given right ) , so all of those collisions with 1/2 the football team in a car would be adverted and around 800 Australians could still be alive . The minister was not at all receptive but we were asked to wait outside & avail ourselves of some refreshments while the minister prepared for the photographer . Outside part way through my open face cucumber sandwich a minion came out said the minister thought the plan was brilliant and he would table it in parliament if we could rework the time frame from the cycle motor to the family saloon ( read Holden Special ) to 4 years or less . The others near ripped my arms off as they dragged me out and on the way home they explained why it had to be 4 years . 1 reason and 1 reason only So the minister who initiated it could claim credit for it before the next election . From that day on I have always viewed every "road safety" regulation with the same skepticism and to a one they are all the same 1) get lots of publicity , 2) show an apparent instant success ( usually drops off rapidly ) 3 ) always announced in time to claim credit before the next election.

That 19809 escort will be historic platable so in NSW $ 50 a year including green slip That gives yo 60 days of use Six of them ( space at home permitting ) is $ 300 a year , less than any single green slip . Full comprehensive insurance usually $ 300 to $ 500 a year which is less than the old 3rd party fire & theft cover This is why just about any 30 year old vehicle is now very expensive because people just want to get from A to B . There is a small percentage that see a car as a status symbol for for them a $ 10,000 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow A bit thirsty if you have a lead foot but again $ 50 /year not really hard to maintain if you follow the maintenance schedule . Same front brakes as an Escort ( just 4 of them ) if you mix your own caster oil brake fluid & change it annually the hydraulics usually work fine . Toss the Lucas fuel pump for a solid state one & fit a Ford reduction starter motor . Fun to drive even better to watch people trying to park next to you terrified of hitting the car .

This story is over a year old. "Ford has patented a new system that uses a vehicle’s cameras to detect billboards and then pull them up on a car’s infotainment display as inescapable in-vehicle advertisements" from 3 years ago. Other patents where also put forward. "Adverts may be beamed on to your Ford car’s dashboard" How about they work out how to make a gearbox that works first. "Just saying".

Are they deliberately trying to go broke?

Yeah...they're really suffering 🙄

I would genuinely like to meet a person who would actually knowingly choose to buy a car with this 'feature'. Medical professionals probably would as well.

Your phone has it already and I bet you use it all the time

If a car was going to inject advertising through the media centre, interrupting my choice of journey time entertainment, that car would be on the bottom of choice.

I hope they bring this feature to production. Of course I wouldn't buy a Ford (historic vehicles aside), but I'd spend all day at dealerships responding positively to adds, so whoever test drives the damn thing gets bombarded with ads.

Stalker sounds like a good name for a car. They turn everything into appliances, you will own nothing and be happy. Lease the POS who cares. I do, I still roll up my windows manually.

Given all the new legislation around stalking, electronic surveillance and coercive control that is set to be illegal under the DV banner. I cant imagine that this will fly too well for FoMoCo, down under.

It's exactly what mobile phones do now, Listen to conversations and apply search's to what you were talking about Google and Apple have already been caught with this tech and using it to sell.

So I guess they use your mobile phone plan download allowance to send the ads to you and forward the data back to the advertisers? Very generous of them to make it so easy for you.
