The victim was also at fault for not turning his lights on and not tying his boat to the dock. But I also recognize that you could still get hurt even if you have done the proper safety protocol if another boat with a severely impaired driver crashed straight into you. In this case, the other boat driver, Floyd Wright made the fatal mistake of driving a boat in dark waters while inebriated. Both sides made a fatal mistake.

Life long boater here, Miami Florida area so I have seen a lot of crashes and stories of horrible crashes especially at night. So no propeller damage, a prop can be changed in a matter of a few mins even while in the water. Blood in suspect boat did not match the victims....well it wouldn't since the suspect boat ran right over the top of the victim boat. Any of the victims blood would only be on the bottom of the suspect boat but washed off in a matter of 2 seconds once the boat lands from the collision. The lack of victim blood in the suspect boat and no damage to suspect boat propeller should not even be considered a reason to eliminate the suspect boat. That being said the cause of this crash was no lights on the victim boat, that is #1. The 2nd catalyst was running your boat at night when you can't see in front of you. If it's dark you only drive as fast as you are comfortable with hitting something at the chosen speed. The suspect boat could just as easily of hit a log or a dock or a jetty causing injury and death to themselves. Just look at the Florida Marlins baseball player that crashed his boat in Miami at night. Even if you know the waters like the back of your hand you do not run at speed if you can't see at least 50 yards in front of you. That goes for daytime as well in the event of a rain storm. Of course being drunk makes you think you are invincible. But I have seen crashes like this when everyone was sober. Very poor choices made by both parties. Drifting at night in a navigational area with no lights on is nuts. Makes my hair stand up just thinking about it. All it takes is a bit of inexperience from a stone cold sober boater to turn that quiet night into a nightmare.

What is that Journalist talking about ? 'Being intoxicated shouldn't be a way out' blabla.. what do you mean? Anyone could & probably would have hit a boat, in the dark.. that was sitting still with no lights in the middle of a boating lane. 1. People on shore that heard her yelling didn't have the sound of the wake & a boat motor in their ear. 2. They aren't placing ANY blame on the victim for putting himself & his passenger in danger by not tying up the boat & not having lights on. Would it be someone's fault if they came around a corner at night and hit a car parked in the middle of the road? No.
@ScarabChris2 жыл бұрын
Just to clear up the idea that there is no way you can hit a boat and think you hit a log so let me share a story of my own. I had a 30' Scarab (hence my username) which is a "go-fast" boat with twin engines. My wife and I were running offshore in Miami at about 45 MPH. It was a clear beautiful day. All of a sudden I see in the water in front of me an object floating. It was to late I was hitting it. The object was a dock piling which is basically the same wood poles used for telephone/power poles. It was floating with 90% of the mass under the surface. When I hit this pole my entire boat went airborn just like you saw in the reenactment in this video where the blue boat goes airborn. My boat was 30+ feet in length and weighs 6000+ pounds and at 45 MPH the boat got a good 4-5 feet of air before coming down. I did some minor damage to my hull and engines but not enough to rush to shore. So it is entirely possible to hit a small boat at that speed and not know if it were a massive log, a dock piling or a 18' boat. Especially in the pitch black waters and no lights on the boat you hit. The only thing I don't believe is that the boaters stopped but saw and heard nothing. They did. I went back to see what I hit and was amazed it was only a 10' length of dock piling. It felt like a ramp!
@jamesstreet228 Жыл бұрын
Ive done the exact same thing with 2 friends and we hit a log and it almost threw all 3 of us out of the boat. We lost 2 rod and reels and a 22 pistol. And, obviously hitting a smaller boat the bigger boat is going to push the smaller one down which will absorb some of the energy. I 100% believe they could have not known what they hit. Whether they heard the screams of the girl, who's to say? She could have been unconscious or stunned and not started screaming until they left. It's all speculation of course but it's also speculation that they could have heard the girl screaming. I was in the US Navy for 6 years. We were in dense fog once and the fog horn sounding up front would rip your ear drums out. But, on the fantail you couldn't even hear it at all. Sound travels different over open water.

I'm surprised he was convicted and sentenced to prison. There really was little concrete evidence of criminality (though it appears obvious). No evidence that he was drunk or negligent (though he may have been). Emotional claims he would have heard screams seem doubtful as the sound of his own engine and the speed tells me he was likely quite a long distance away by the time anyone screamed. And it was dark. Evidence that he knew he hit a boat is also lacking, though one policeman said he would have seen the boat in his lights is not evidence. The victim may well have been the negligent one. Reasonable doubt.
@gunzakimbo Жыл бұрын
The dude got 4 years in prison. Even if the victims' were negligent (Which they were) I'm going to assume not having your lights on is as negligent as drinking while driving a boat to which they admitted doing (Also while driving with a suspended license). They're clearly lying about turning around cause you have to assume if the friends don't call medical personal immediately the girl's dead as well from blood loss so the friends would've seen them coming back to check what they hit (Speculation, but fairly confident in my conclusion). The cops only got to him from his friend reporting the accident AND he also tried to hide evidence by fixing the boat. With our corrupt system, this dude could've easily got charged with vehicular manslaughter with leaving the scene as well and got decades if not life! He's lucky beyond belief that they only got him with tampering with physical evidence and failing to report an accident.

The guy that got killed was popular. Hence the outrage and the downplaying of the facts, the victim had no lights and drifted into the boating lane. If the guy would have come forward as soon as the story hit the news he might not have been charged. I can actually believe they didn't know what they hit and when they turned around they didn't see or hear anything. There were no lights and the sound of the outboard can cover a lot. I suspect they covered a lot of ground before they got stopped and in the dark with no lights on the other boat it would be hard to find exactly where they were when they hit something. By not coming forward when the story hit the news and not even coming forward when his friend did the guy screwed himself. I suspect if Joe Blow had gotten hit instead of local legend once they found out that Mr. Blow did not have his lights on and had drifted into the boating lane that would have been the end of it.

They convicted my son after the fact, after he had car problems and walked home. They charged him with DUI, but there were no witnesses, and he had been home for hours.

Sad situation with the man's death and injury to the girl, but this accident was 100% the fault of the victim. It's completely nuts to drift into a boating lane on a pitch black night with no lights on. Just because the other boat's driver was drinking it does not logically make him the person who caused the accident. That would be an entirely separate offense.
@killerpussy842 жыл бұрын
The drunk driver did not have any lights on either. So no, it's NOT a 100% the victim's fault.
@kagomefan1012 жыл бұрын
No it’s not 100% their fault. The offending boat did not have it’s lights on either. There is NO excuse to be driving drunk. They also knew they hit something, and clearly would’ve heard the girl’s screams. They should’ve stopped or reported it immediately. That boat is just as responsible as the victims!

Was it necessary to go through all the forensics when the guys admitted to it?

Nasreen Raza should count her blessings everyday for being a survivor of that boating accident. She should also say “thank you God” for saving her life and her arm. Her arm is deformed, yes, but at least she still has it on attached to her body. Very lucky young girl, very lucky. As for Harry Ul, it was unfortunate that he lost his life being so young. Maybe he should have tightened up the boat, and keeping his boat lit up…..then perhaps, this accident would have never happened. 4 years after hitting the other boat??? Was that a joke??? A life was lost, so why not charge this man with the death of Harry Ul??? A miscarriage of justice. He is only serving 4 years, then out of prison to enjoy life while Harry is 6 feet underground never to return to this life. Sickening, and totally unacceptable.

The dead boat operator was completely negligent. It's just like putting your car in drive with no handbrake and letting it roam onto a highway at night with no lights on... doesn't matter if the driver of a car that hits it is drunk or not.

They would never convict a Kennedy on such a case. Sad that so many lives were destroyed by this.

Man idk about this one guys I love forensic files but I’m pretty sure a sober person wouldn’t see an unlit boat in the dark. Maybe they were going to fast I guess but sadly the victim play a huge role in his accident.

If it was an accident and Harry's boat was sitting there, late at night with no lights on, why wouldn't they stop?

There were lots of mistakes was made by both sides. Unfortunately mistakes are very costly. When I had my little business I always made sure that I would say measure one check twice and measure again for they are costly. And I'm genuinely sorry such a young promising life lost and one young life injured forever.

WHY would you not tie your boat?! No running lights?! Insane! Having grown up on a boat I would say all involved were drunk and/or high. What I saw and experienced as a child I chose not to go that way.
@Finnador9 ай бұрын
The victim might have been drinking as well. To not be aware that his untied boat has drifted into the shipping lane. As for the perpetrator; I'm guessing he immediately sobered-up after hearing the screams; and went into get-away mode,

What a shame. I would never drive at night. Too many drunks and people on drugs.

Can't "Arm Girl" sue the crap out of both boaters in a civil trial? Also: doesn't the boat passenger that got immunity look exactly like the kind of guy that gets drunk on a boat?
@timhinchcliffe53729 ай бұрын
Where's the proof that they "heard the screams"? At the start of the video they mentioned the lake has "currents". What if the vessel drifted far enough that they couldn't hear the screams over the noise of their own vessel's engine? And was she screaming straight away or was she knocked out or in shock immediately?

This was a pure accident, the suspect made a mistake by fleeing the scene probably because maybe he knew his alcohol level was high and the prosecutors would have used that to their advantage...
