Nice Vlog, thanks for taking me with you into the forest! Nice Photo! I know the problem with a lot of distractions in the jungle, hard to deal with but you did great! Subscribed!

Really liked the vlog William. I am from Southland and just started landscape photography and liked the way you explained how to frame a nice photo in a kind of busy forest. Thanks for that. I am not sure if you have made videos on safety and preparedness while camping for photography in Fiordland. Very nice photo, feels like you can walk into the forest now.

Thank you. You might enjoy some of the other videos too :) I run workshops here so if you ever wanted to fast track some learning and get out in the field together feel free to email me. I’ve got more videos on the way which I hope help in the meantime. All the best!

Excellent. Don't agree that the shot is 'too busy'; for me there are just about the right amount of elements. I really enjoyed that Will, the forest is always my place of solitude (usually with the dog). I'm so jealous of all the ferns you have, in the UK we don't have so many different species of them.

Thanks Steve, I just released another forest based video 🤓

Cmon man, you're making me blush, haha. That means a lot. Not trying to go overboard with these, or to be a 'KZbinr'. I still want to enjoy being in the moment out there. So I'm really stoked to see your comment.

@@WilliamPatinoPhotography The parts about just enjoying being out there and shooting to please yourself are things a lot of shooters need to remind themselves of I reckon. Cheers.

Great video Will. Workflow wise this helping me a lot. I hate using my tripod and it couldn't be more frustrating to use. Seeing you work without one shows how easy it can be. I also always come back with too many images and its a nightmare to review them all, so this has helped with that as well. Keep up the great work! James

I love shooting handheld as well, and I was wandering the bush in Karamea today, thinking how much I love the solitude also.

The concept of photographing without a tripod is hard for me to comprehend, having always done so. But you have 100% opened my eyes to move forward with trying this particularly when I go hiking. Maybe you have talked about this in other videos, how are you handling droplets/mist/fog build up on the lens? Thanks
@WilliamPatinoPhotography3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s been over 3 years since I used a tripod (aside from capturing the aurora). You’ll struggle to get the slower speeds on a DSLR but a stabilised mirrorless body is a piece of cake. For drops and shooting in the rain, I just carry a micro fibre towel and use that over the camera intermittently.

Wonderful video, Will!! There really is nothing like a lush forest to get lost in. Always been my favourite kind of environment since childhood too. You do it justice - the end result photo is beautiful! Definitely would love to see more videos like this from you, love hearing your thoughts behind everything. Keep it up my friend. 🙂

Cool vid. I’m amazed at how you can hand hold these. Pretty sure if I tried 1/8sec it’s be a blurry mess! And focus stacking them, how on earth do you get two hand held shots to align??
@WilliamPatinoPhotography3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Don’t bounce around like a maniac would be the main tip, haha. Even on a tripod, you need to align the images in post due to ‘focus breathing’. There’s virtually no difference doing it handheld, except that’s it’s faster and more enjoyable of course.

Good vid again, mate. But where did you focus?
@WilliamPatinoPhotography3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Just in the mid ground. When shooting with a wide angle lens and narrow aperture, you almost can’t go wrong with focussing.
