Brian said that this song was one of the most harmonic songs he had ever heard. That's high praise coming from a master of harmonics. Brian can't listen to the song today. The fact Dennis wrote it and sang it and the lyrics " i'm gonna go away, but not forever", hurts too much. Dennis really wrote some beautiful, melancholy haunting songs. All 3 brothers had amazing musical abilities. Unfortunately Dennis's life ended way to soon. Well Carl's did aswell. They will be missed with gratitude for what they gave us while they were here.

@@zootsoot2006 There is no comparison between those two bands. The Beatles were 90% hype and MARKETING and actually pretty weak rock band after about 1964. Beach Boys were THE iconic American band for 50 years.

Dennis was always my favorite, mostly because of his looks, until this song came out. Then I wondered why a man that could write and sing songs that could really move people was hidden behind a drum set. His death at the side of the sea seemed to be one of the things I will remember "forever"

Met him around “78 or so when he was at a Peaches Record store near Detroit promoting his Pacific Ocean Blue album. We said hello, shook hands and he stood by patiently while my friend took a photo of us which I still have. Very nice guy, approachable and friendly with everybody.

I've posted this thought somewhere else on KZbin. In one of the Beach Boy biopics, there was a scene that occurred after Murry had thrown Dennis out of the house and disparaged him and they'd had serious trouble, Murry met Dennis out on the sidewalk after a recording session. Murry says to Dennis, "That really is a beautiful song, Dennis." Dennis thanks him and they had a momentary reconciliation. I hope that there is some reality in that scene. Even if the reconciliation didn't last, I hope they were able to find some peace together.. Whether we admit it or not, guys need our Dads.
