I had the time today to take a moment to both test some new props from HQ and also retune my quads. These new 5x4x3 props have been tweaked just enough to be noticeably better in feel and the ability to tune the quad. This is just the type of flying I do to test out the quad when I tune as you will never find the shortcomings of your setup and or tune if you don't push the PID controller. Of the 5 batteries I flew I chose two flights to show you how well a quad can fly when tuned correctly. Still need to fine tune it a bit more but it's getting close. Worth noting that this is the same frame I competed with in the 2015 Drone Nationals Freestyle comp, the KISS FC is only running 1KHz (not 2KHz, 4KHz or 8KHz), only run on an F3 processor (no F4), no Airmode is activated, I'm still using my trusty idle up switch and I even switched back to Oneshot125 just to prove a point. Sometimes you need to forget about the numbers and just go fly it to see how it feels...
The first part is using the EMAX motors and the last is using the Lumenier motors.
Music:
Remember The Name by FortMinor
Parts used:
FatShark Dominator HDV2 googles
ImmersionRC 600mw 5.8 VTX
Spironet antenna
Alien 5" frame
KISS FC
Lumenier 1300 4s battery
KISS 24a OneShot enabled
Lumenier RX2206 2350kv and EMAX RS2205 2300kv
HQ 5x4x3 Glass Nylon (New version)
FrSky Taranis with X4R receiver running S.Bus
GoPro 4 Silver (that now is a little dead)

Call it fine tuning, call it propellor testing, call it what you will - supremely crisp flying and such glorious music. Such a great vid you feel like playing it over and over again. Each time you do, you find something you missed. Love it.

Excellent words, Chad. NOTHING can make up for pilot skill, and that comes through practice. Its not the frame, the FC, the ESCs, its the pilot on the sticks. You, Steele, Tommy, and Carlos could fly twigs for frames with Chi-Com parts and you would "rip balls". Parts help a good pilot be great, but you have to put in your time.

Amazing flying dude, so smooth when it needs to be but also twitchy and dialed in at all the right moments. Your an inspiration. I love that you decided to run oneshot125, lower kh, f3 and no Airmode to show that you don't need fancy bells and whistles to have an amazing flight.

+FinalGlideAus I hope I can make this make sense but I think the answer to your question is, nothing. You can go out and buy all the parts of the month and flash the latest firmwares on them and sure it might fly good out the gate but it potentially still might not fly as good as "older" properly tuned hardware in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. I think a shorter way to say it is it's making copters fly better on stock settings but not making better pilots. For example I finally bought a F3 board but I was aware when I was buying it that I wasn't going to magically become a amazing pilot just because I had an F3 board. all the F3 boards in the world aren't going to make me fly like yourself or anyone. Only lots of practice, learning and perhaps a accent will help me there! Two of which I am working on. I hope that makes sense, I just feel people expect to be

Would love to see a rotor riot episode on tuning. So many vids are how to do camera platform/ relaxed flight tunes... Would rather see a vid on the tests you guys use specifically for us more active pilots, ignoring the actual values but just explaining what you are looking for that makes you decide what to lower or raise for each of the values.

+ceecrb1 +1 totally agree. I actually PM'd rotor riot to suggest this. They didn't say no, but they did send me a link to videos of mr steele PID tuning. After watching those I get the impression that they're (steele at least) not too interested in doing this because its very trial and error and not super scientific.
@ceecrb1
@ceecrb1 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah that is exactly why I'm asking them.... It is very trial and error, so what are their recommended trials.. Like I say, only complete noobies are interested in copying PIDs, but as the only fpv racer in my area, I'm just winging it alone so nobody to learn from. Nobody in my RC club tunes their quads, most just do static camera shots on gimbals and dont care as long as it doesnt drop out of the sky. My major issue Is I can SEE in my flights and recordings of flights there are issues, but I dont get if these issues relate to p,i,d or a mix of them, and if to lower or raise..
