Well technically you can make a blade from any type of metal as you say, problem is the function fo the blade - if you want a USEABLE blade as an everyday carry utility knife etc then the blade needs to really be steel with a good percentage of carbon, or the edge will dull very quickly. Fine for a "wall hanger" (display only) but garbage to USE.

i have been lucky to find several actually. Here near my town the germans (wehrmacht) had their largest ammo depot of all of europe.. i found these 37mm shells litterally buried 5cm deep under the walkway in the forests. After the war the dutchies had no clue what to do with such a large amount of ammunition, so they just threw it in the forests.. sounds like a good plan right? 8-)

@@lovejcdc I think it's just a normal cannon shell, i don't know if artillery is any good if firing AP, it's meant to hit armor head-on. Artillery usually fires high fragmentation, HE shells. Could be wrong, though.

@@alanwatts8239 there are multiple different artillery shell types, they do make HE shells for antipersonnel use, but for destroying armor they do actually use solid projectiles with either a hardened steel core or sometimes even denser materials like depleted uranium. Explosive force by itself doesn't really puncture thick steel plating like tanks and ships have. t can dent, warp, or bend it, but unless the explosive force is just insanely powerful (like REALLY *REALLY* powerful) it's not going to cause significant damage to heavy armor.

Best guess is that it's just crucible steel. Save the good stuff for guns and armor, pound some cheap but very hard junk out for penetrator coree

In Philippines, the knife maker uses different metal and fold it together and when the knife is finished, he will stab an very thick peso coin, if it punch or stab through, it will pass the test.

I am not a black smith or sword maker but from an engineering point of view, I suspect the heating change the stiffness of the steel i.e as steel temp increases, then the stiffness of the steel decreases which will reduce its natural frequency... So as the steel heats up the natural frequency decreases until the frequency of the tuning fork is enough to excite the natural frequency of the steel blade. You'll hear a significant louder sound from the tuning fork. The opposite can also be true, the natural frequency of the steel can also decrease during heating that the tuning doesn't excite it, so you'll hear a dull sound Thats what I think, I could be wrong
