I have had my Bauer porta-band for 5 years now. I built a wall mount and a small table to support the stock…no regrets in the least! Had to replace the carbon brushes about a year ago (easy).

thanks for the follow on, nice to see the process of making it work and making a nice tool at the end of the process Its funny how most American users consider Hickory to be better than Ash, and most UK users consider Ash the superior one, Ive used them both extensively for hammers axes and other striking tool handles and to be honest they're equally good in all applications......I do however hate Boiled linseed oil (petrochemicals yeuch!!), I always use raw because there are no extra chemicals in it. Ive always soaked my handles in linseed, I have a billhook that lasted 30years with a year outside in grass halfway through and recently started vacuum treating them to pull the linseed deep into the wood making it both water proof with much better shock absorbtion but also giving it a longer working life. its amazing just how much air and water there is in "dry" wood.

Thanks for taking the time to explain the intricacies of this. Learned a lot about things I would not have considered.

Awesome. Although it may not be bladesmithing, you definitely have a gift for the blacksmithing.

It weel cut lol maybe not but it'll smash and poke. I love watching you make knives and cutting objects, but I enjoyed this too because I really foresee me making some stuff like this in the future. I actually have been trying to collect old ball-peen hammer heads that have been discarded to make different things out or. Maybe something like you made here or a tomahawk or something to that affect. Really cool video. I love how you talk us through stuff

Looks great! I forge more tooling than blades which I enjoy! Every run of hammers, the ones I screw up I turn into top tooling 😂. I bit the bullet and started making my hand drifts and punches from H13 so much better!🔥⚒💪🏻

So funny. Just a couple days ago I was thinking about making a hammer to send to you. Maybe do some kinda of trade of some kind. All because I noticed that you use a store bought hammer most of the time. (Nothing wrong with them) but nothing beats a good rounding hammer.

i guarantee when that breaks it will break across the cheeks and punched hole area , there was no need to harden that area in the first place could have just hardened the tip the back can remain soft , now your basically hitting 2 hammers together .

Lol its so funny to hear someone say they dont care anything about blacksmithing and only cares about bladesmithing. I am exact opposite. My thinking is that bladesmithing is too easy and useless
@FireCreekForge
@FireCreekForge 3 жыл бұрын
Haha, neither are easy or useless. Only a surface level understanding of either trade would lead you to believe them to be easy or useless.. Thanks for watching!
