A no-nonsense cleaver....no b.s., no $80 handle scales. Just one hellova clever that can cut through whatever needs cutting. Nice and refreshing. Being a hater of scale, I'd have to knock off the scale though. Great job and great video. Good to see you back on YT.

I follow a few KZbin blacksmiths, and honestly, you're the only one that actually looks like a professional. Everybody else has slipshod tools, or just guesses at things and skips the tooling entirely. But if you're going to make knives for a living, there's just no real reason not to make all the little convenient tools that allow you to get the job done right, accurately, and quickly.

nssheepster Thank you for the kind words. For me, tooling is required to keep each step as clean and efficient as possible.

A) If one of the tools you use for a for sale product is a rusty pipe from a junkyard... Yes I can. B) If you make the same product or style of product all the time, but never bother to make or purchase appropriate tooling for the job... Yes I can. C) Watching the video, you can clearly see this man knows exactly what he's doing, how he's doing it. No guessing, no making it up on the spot, no figuring it out as he goes... That's the attitude of a professional. Compare that to people who make knives all the time, yet are constantly unsure of how to make their next knife.... It's night and day.

Most people on KZbin aren't doing it as a living. That being said when you work a 9-5 you only have so much to throw at a hobby. So if you want to watch other KZbinrs do better, how about you stop critiquing something you don't yourself and float some cash towards some tools for them.

You are the best I’ve seen for developing repeatable systems. To me, this is paramount. I am going to copy your kisser block apparatus. What thicknesses are the two kisser blocks? Your processes seem to revolve around these two. Thank you!

Your work is great. Very methodical and precise. What do you call that depth jig thing with the hinged dies you put on the power hammer? I love that thing!
@rigoniironworks7 жыл бұрын
Eric Schmidt No official name other than a kiss block adapter. I built mine similar to one used by Will Maguire/Australia.

Well I’m going to make a note of that. Thank you for the reply. And please make more videos. I follow several blacksmiths on KZbin, & they are all great, but I think you have an edge over most because of the perfection you put into your work! Have a great day.

Hi John You rock!! I’m impressed with your tools and your work I’d like to know more about your swage block Was it water-jet it? Thank you

Thanks, yes I had a 3" block waterjet cut.

Ahem, I do believe it’s called a hog splitter, not a pumpkin splitter... So there had better be a second video demonstrating it’s namesake.
