I appreciate that you point out that your hammering isn't for decoration, but serves a functional purpose. I see plenty of folks adding gratuitous hammer marks, as you so aptly put it, just to make it look hand forged, when all you need to do is actually hand forge it for that. Great work!

That hinge was a JOB ! And you handled it gracefully ! The 2nd Mike you used was very Clear and I could understand you very well ! The 3rd. One was not as Clear and it was very distorted ! Be Safe and Keep Hammering !

Wow, going back to watch an earlier vid, it's shocking to me ho far the channel has come. I remember when you deadened the ring on your anvil. It was pretty loud back then, LOL

For what it's worth, the BT mic, turned down, sounded best to my ears.

Worth a lot. That was the whole reason for narrating the microphone experiment. think I agree with you. Thanks for the input.

The mic I like best for recording (guitar, vocal... basically anything) is an SM57 if I remember right, not as small as the ones you have in this video but if you had it suspended above you it would probably work wonders

The hammering was load and clear. The anvil base might help. A great video as always. Thank you...

First mic sounded the best. Second mic was close but sounded better when you lowered it to chest level and i believe you lowered the volume on it as well. One thing I don't enjoy is the loud ring that comes from the anvil although I don't mind a bit of it. I placed a few small magnets on mine to quite them a bit. It may also be the way the audio of it is recorded through the mic that could be making it sound louder? Eight way John your videos are great and i love the content as well as the very professional work you turn out. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming!!!!

Thanks for the input. It does seem like the anvil rings louder on video than I think it does in real life. I may try to deaden it some to see if it helps. Using the coal forge has certainly made the instruction easier to hear than it is with the gas forge.

The first one the mic is great but wont work if the forge is going. Second mic is great the forge is on in that first clip and that just shows it is a great little mic. even when you are forging it is easy to hear you clearly. Third mic is terrible but maybe it has a 5.1 setting that may make it better or something like that. Not stereo. The lapel is still not good even when it is a chest level. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks, It looks like the simple BT mic without the lapel mic is the best option.

I'd prefer the straps to taper in both width and thickness, narrowing and thinning towards the tip. Alot more work, but it testifies to being forged and there's not a gram of unneeded iron anywhere. Beauty from function. Imagine if you were to make this from your bloom, I know I would go to lenghts to conserve material.

I've never found any of the audio difficult to understand. The built-in mics on the cameras don't sound great but I can understand you. I think you may have a few tech/audio snobs watching.

I know it's 3 years old and you may not ever see this, but did you ever try a headworn mic plugged into your transmitter? I have been playing music professionally as my patr time job for decades and I also have worked as a pro audio contractor for other acts. - You can get a headworn mic for peanuts and while I wouldn't want to use one for a Jazz recording session with Diana Krull, for an outdoor gig like a festival 99.999% of the people would ever know the difference between a cheap HW Dynamic and the most expensive Sennheser ribbon condenser mic. . As you are just recording voice a cheapie headworn mic would be better then anything you used in this particular vid. Additionally if you do it right there will be almost no background noise either. You can run the gas forge full blast through the whole video if you want. (There is a lot you can do with equalization and parametric notch filters too but that's a whole 'nother ballgame. . At any rate a cheap headworn mic like the one for 25 bucks that Siesmic Audio in Memphis sells is what I would use if I was your sound man. - It's real dynamic mic, and It goes on like a pair of glasses and almost eliminate crosstalk. The frame is completely adjustable and you can get it to the point you can't even tell you have it on. The only problem I see is if you are not much good sith a soldering iron you would need a mini XLR to 1/8 phone adapter. Don't try to re-invent the wheel, homes. We don't use them on a noisey stagejust because we want to look like Toby Keith, you know. And thanx for all the great tips. When it comes to instruction you are the best smith on KZbin! God Bless ya, Bro.
