Easiest/cheap way to safely remove zinc is throw it in vinegar overnight.

@herbilishes thanks a lot! Honestly, if you're only planning on it as a hobby, I wouldn't worry about a press for now. They are hard to come by in the UK and pricey. Steel - avoid steel suppliers unless you need a particular alloy, have a look for scrap yards/recycling sites. Steel powder - also hard to get hold of in the UK. I'm assuming you're interested in canister Damascus, but this is something I haven't tried personally.

I have managed to make a 44 layer raindrop figher still haven't finished handle yet as I have limited time, trying gomai at the minute it's looking okay so far. Just think a press would help me and my mate may go halfs.. I had 15n20 and 1084

This is terrible. I couldn't make it, but it doesn't fit the theme really. It would be more dangerous for the person using it than anyone they were fighting. 1/10 for making it though.
