Hey there. I’m the guy with the primer gray fastback from the autocross and dragstrip. Your dad talked to me about his cars. Way cool. Hope I see this one back on the road and at those same events in the future. I have a couple contacts for parts that are somewhat local to Atl. Let me know if you’d like their info Keep on rockin in the free world!

Excellent quote choice from Matthew 6! And fun to see a 65 Mustang making it down the road again! I had one, a 65, 2+2 fastback, poppy red,, 289 V8, 4 speed manual. It was awesome. Sold it after graduation from seminary...family car needed tires! Got to know where the treasure is!

I was 9 when the Mustang Fasback 2 + 2 came out, I still remember the printed ad for that I stared at. I had never seen a cooler car. It was like a household name, everybody loved.

Your dad scored on that buy! I'm getting excited now to see you two make one fastback out of the collection. It's debatable, but I still think the 65 fastback more than just the Mustang in general is what supercharged Amerka into the muscle car era not just the pony car era. Starting with Carroll Shelby. Not the only car, just the one that really kicked things into another gear. It was just so different at that time. And immediately so popular. Which is why it now has become so desirable and iconic.

12:51 you can put the brake drum on backward with a couple lug nuts on just a few threads and use that as a slide hammer

Loving the videos as always 👍 30 years ago here in the UK I used to race/mechanic in autograss(short oval on grass/dirt fields) I ran a chevette and my boss an escort both RWD, we used to swap diffs in a field in 20 mins😁 we used to reverse the drums and hammer the shafts out but used the old thick cast drums which didn't flex 💪,also I can confirm that "a piece of piss" is also a UK thing 😂 and a compliment of how easy a job is eg its a piece of piss to do 😂 all the best from across the pond keep up the good work cheers Matt N 🇬🇧

@@OldTimeRevival That's awesome. My brother had a 66 fastback A code, but they were always a little out of my reach. I bought a 71 Mach1 with a blown engine when I was 16. Now, 42 years later, I'm building another 71 for old time's sake. Holler if I can be of any help. I know lots of early Mustang guys that you might could resource parts from. Possible episode idea, make an apointment with a shop that can dip the entire car, strip the remainder of the body down, remove front suspension fab a trailer hitch for the front end, put a rolling real axle and wheels on back and road trip it to the dippers, wait till it's complete, have it DP90 Epoxy primered and road trip it home. Mount it onto a wheeled dolly.
@OldTimeRevival Жыл бұрын
We're probably going to get it running with the smallest budget possible. After that, start doing upgrades. But we are planning to bring it indoors this month. Hope to buy an engine this week.

@PAVEMENTMOD Жыл бұрын
Adding a real roof skin will add thousands of dollars to the value of the car if and when you decide to sell it. The other fact is the amount of stiffness the roof adds to the body. Otherwise you would have to add all the convertible stiffeners to the car. To make it a track car without the roof intact would be dangerous even with a full roll cage. However its best to install the cage and then the roof skin
@OldTimeRevival Жыл бұрын
Agreed! Thanks for the info and for watching!

If you want to clean that bondo off just to keep the ratty look going, just use a torch and heat it up and it’ll scrape right off. Could just fix whatever dent is under there best you can and it would look way better.

1 Nice thing about Ford Mustangs They sell every part you need, There not called rustangs for nothing, I have owned some nice ones in the past , 69 mach 1 ,4 speed car, 64 1/2 65. There Nice cars if there not rotted to bad, Most of the time they are.

drop it on a old race car chassis like the monte carlo frome the fast and furious sounds like what you might want the monte carlo frome the fast and furious had a bad ass built big block and a old race car chassis there was a tube cage around the fuel tank in the trunk i think that would be real sick with a fast back platform with a winters quick change and a race transmision so you can do gear changes real fast t also think some warlock mufflers not many people know about them they have a open header sode were you could put electric cut outs and still have exhust all in 1 just my thoughts that you might really like👍✌

Coming back to this episode I never saw.. I'd want the 68.. there's two ways to build it, either go coupe version of the Bullet car with a 410 3X2 and 5 speed like how Steve McQueen built that car for the movie, or you can go full Trans Am with it and a simple 302 4brl with upgraded suspension, a good cam, Tri Y's and straight pipes.. hell you could even go super period correct upgrades and do Ranchero GT drums at all four corners for WAY better stopping power without disc brakes, though honestly there's no reason to unless you want to go period upgrades because an 8.8 with 3.73 gears, limited slip and discs can be bought from any wrecker for less than Ranchero drums and backing plates etc and then you could just put 70 Mustang front discs on it and have discs that clear 14's in the front and 15's in the back. ....WHY DO I KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT CARS WHEN I CAN'T USE IT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's not even a ratty $500 fastback, that's a ratty $125 fastback. Oh and yes, two days after I posted about it the car I was drooling over sold.. So now I can tell you it was a 67 Satellite.. for $3500.. I hate my father for not letting me go get it.. just like every other cool car I find and get told no about. I'm still pissed off that I missed out on a $500 70 Challenger RT project. Let alone the 67 notchback Cuda with a 360 waiting to go into it. BTW Freiburger's favorite way to pull an axle is to flip the brake drum inside out and put it on the studs with a couple nuts and then use it as a slide hammer against the nuts to yank out the axle.. works most of the time. I'm pretty sure the red they painted the center sections with was just simple red oxide primer. This whole video is making me smirk thinking back to my 76 F100 4X4 that had a 9 inch in the back that every time you got on and off the gas you'd hear a clunk of the locker locking and unlocking and every time you let off it'd howl like a son of a bitch where the lash/preload wasn't set right. I bought it that way and sold it that way.. I still miss that truck every day of my life.. didn't help that it was the same blue as Bigfoot which I fell asleep in the wheel of the 90's bigfoot in 1990 at Arco Arena in Sacramento, no wonder I'm a Ford guy eh? Still have that picture around here somewhere.
