Not only that, but many of them lend us a different perspective that often improves the essential product. The "second pair of eyes" effect works in mysterious ways. In a similar fashion, the Israelis take an American military design, and make it a meaner hybrid (mean in the popular sense). With internet access, the entire world is on a technology transfer binge.

My 67 shelby was locked up when I bought it I got it to spin 345 degrees then I locked up on something again. After working through everything mentally I pulled starter and a piece of shale was wedged into a spot where it was blocking the ring gear. Pulled it out and turned it thru easy. Ran and drove it 22 years vintage racing, daily driver etc. When I removed intake after breaking a valve spring . Its 1st time off ever! It was as clean as a week old engine inside. No gunk st all. I did however find a crack in lifter valley. I replaced block with a Mexican 302 block. Perfect job While disassembled I noted lemans crank valley head services ported heads. Lots of other shelby installed bits as well. Got my first dynotune. 430 rwhp. 11.73 at 123mph at strip in kelowna. Pranced Knox hill climb etc. Car vandalized and I was paid out. Bought it back. Garage break in every removable part taken . Sold car to friend. He died still owing me 1/2. Now 68 gt/cs with home built 302 like mexican with 5.4 inch rods and pistons. Comp vintage plus solid lifter. Ported 351 heads with 194 intake valves etc. 12.8 1/4 at 118 in calgary's. Thats Denver like altitude Fun always. J.s cormack Also a wicked 86 xjs with switch pitch t400 502 crate engine. .

Taken off the road and scrapped after only 10 years, yep those were the good ole days of car productions. Lucky if a car made it 10 years as it either rusted out, wore out or both in that time. I have seen cars scrapped a lot sooner than that back then.

Yes...part 2 please. Looks like a good project. Pull he block and clean it well. Also, make sure the oil ports for the crankshaft lubrication have not plugged up with old, gummy oil. If they have ...bye bye motor. I am a machinist and I know this problem well. Pull that block. Strip it down and inspect closely. You can now clean it properly too. A couple of spray cans of Ford blue will make it da' bomb.

Yeah pulling the engine and stripping it is much easier and effective than what I'm doing here. I would do it, however the car is stuck in storage and I can't get a engine hoist to it. Also if i ever pull this engine... it'll most likely never go back it the car 😂 would swap in a roller 5.0 and 5spd. Slap a intake and carb on it and call'er a day!

Jeff Stewart many people start with that idea, pull the engine, disassemble it...which costs nothing. But then lose interest or don’t have the money to rebuild it. Then it never runs again. Theses guys’ll have this car running again in a matter of a few hours. Then they can determine if it really needs a lower end rebuild or it’s resellable(if they so choose) as a running car and someone else can dump the money into it. This car needs a lot more than an engine rebuild in body an int but is a nice project. This is how it was done in the 1980s when these cars could be bought for $500 and put back on the street.

Those old Ford motors were tough ive pulled them apart in the past seen them in worse shape than what yours looks like and one time we bolted a set of junkyard heads onto the motor Gave it a start and that motor ran. For years without any issues it was also in. A Mustang, 68 convertible and the heads came out of a wrecked Granada motor ! We were poor teenage boys and i dont even recall using a tourney wrench potting the heads on ? LOL the car. Ran well untill it was totaled A few months after the work Even after the wreck she kept on going With a mismatch of body parts from a different color hardtop i had with a shot 6 cylinder motor that i dropped off at a junkyard at nite after hours and they sold everything they could from the car i used to laugh.when i would see it in the yard if i went there for other parts or whatever plus other people i knew in the area that went there reckonized the old Mustang too its funny because i have a 26 year old son that used to give me a hard time about Junking such a classic car as a teenager ( sadly the car had a engine fire that really melted the harness and suspension components that it was too costly to repair And i didnt have insurance that would have paid for the repairs ?

That carbon buildup on the pistons is from leaded fuel. You did the right thing by cleaning it off. That stuff is like gravel in the cylinders when it breaks loose and gets between the piston and cylinder wall. Be sure to oil those cylinders good before startup and fresh oil and filter will help to ensure a long life.

One more thing, I couldn’t tell if you kept track of the pushrods, they really need to go back where they came from, roll ‘em on a flat piece of glass to make sure that they’re straight. Ok I’m out

I do admire the spirit you guys have in getting it running, But you gonna need to gut that interior. With that mouse nest on the passenger side, you can bet there is more in the headliner, seats, dash. No stink now that it is not out in the sun and winter. But get warmed up and it will stink like mouse piss. Looks like a great start. PS disconnect your blower motor, this way you won't get a dose hantavirus when you are in the driver seat trying to get it to fire off eh!

I had a mouse crawl in and make nest beside my cabin filter in the winter I didn't know about. Spring came, was always kinda tired, fluish, aches, chronic cough. Didn't think about too it much, just a cold. Doing the spring maintenance on my car, I pulled the cabin filter and the little bastard died on it, and the pleats were filled with turds and piss, and this big ass nest all around the rest. Without a host the virus can stay active for a week. There might be none in there now but all that nice bedding material. Took 14 months for my lungs to clear. It was no fun, hospital stay, loss of income, just blah, never want it again

Also, since the mice have been there and their urine has been all over, the chance of tetanus is high if you cut yourself. Everything soft will have to be thrown away. Don't save any door panels, soft trim, carpet (obviously), or seat padding. It will carry that smell for far too long.

Coolest find and O/H. I was apprenticing at a Ford dealer under an old timer that used wire wheels to do what we called "the farm overhaul" you guys did. He did a 351 W one day and used the wire wheel cleaner for piston tops, etc. That car came back on a hook a few days after it left. A wire from the wire wheel went into the engine, had jammed the oil pump and the engine burned up from lack of lube. Figure out the moral of this story by yourself. Thanks for showing the vid. I love old mustangs.

Interesting and a cool car. I'm a MOPAR guy, so that says a lot. Should pull the engine and hot tank the parts. new bearings and seals and it looks like you would be good to go. Wire wheel and scraping on an assembled engine is asking for trouble. Rule number one of engine building... CLEAN everything, check clearances and CLEAN everything again BEFORE assembly. Give this car the love it deserves.

@@Theoldcarchannel. Yeah no doubt. Blame the rise of the internet. Everyone can easily find out the value of anything on a worldwide market. And the number of potential buyers is growing too, as are trends in certain items. Myths spread like wildfire online too, driving prices up on certain mythical items. I used to make a living buying and selling. Getting a lot harder to find anything with any room to turn a profit, and if you do you're got to beat all the other pickers through the door first! Last cool car I found for a good price was a 66 Datsun pickup, bench seat, 1299 cc engine. Bought it off a tow truck driver with a pile of cars in his backyard, $500. All it needed was brakes, shocks, brake pressure switch (had to swap connectors on a VW version) and a new battery!
