It's amazing how well preserved that tractor is. If it was in my area, it would be a ball of rust! They rust sitting in the sheds around here!!

The big perk to living where it doesn’t rain. Very far from rusty. Working on my 1206 now and it’s amazing how nice it comes apart

I once bought a 1486 out of Hays that was 3 point delete. It had a similar drawbar as your 806. It appeared that it originally came with the western drawbar, but the weird thing was that it had the rock shaft housing and rock shaft for 3 pt but no linkage going in the cab. The rock shaft looked brand new and it was evident that it never was used. And it had a 1000 pto. It was a pretty clean straight tractor, and the interior appeared to be 100 percent original and it was probably a 8 or 9 out of 10 condition wise. It was setting on 14Lx 16.1 and 20.8 Firestone radials that looked almost new. I just thought the rock shaft being on a western tractor was a bit odd. That’s a pretty straight looking 806. Sounds like it might need the starter freshened up. I realize two 6 volt batteries would probably make it crank better. Great content! Thanks for sharing!

You run into 66 series tractors with only rock shafts a lot in western KS wheat country. Guess it gave the guy the option to add 3 point arms if they wanted to. The battery cables were absolutely junk. I was working on it earlier this week at home and it cranks amazingly better with new cables.

@ that’s interesting on the 66 series also having them. That 806 is a gem. It’s a good looking old girl. I actually prefer them being in their work clothes like that when I find them, so you can see exactly what all is leaking and where it is coming from, and the condition of the sheet metal. That one looks like it was taken care of in the past from what I can see. I’d rather have thin paint and surface rust than a cheap paint job that covers up and masks problems.

Pretty uncommon until you get to the western half of Kansas. Highway 81 really divides row crop from wheatland in my experience.

Have one of those in the shed, very similar RM pump, PTO and factory no TA. Grandpa bought it new at the IH dealership in town in 1967. At least 20000 hours and the engine, transmission and rear end have never been opened. Ground a semi load of corn with it today. One of IH's best!

Would question if I had steering. It should’ve bled out with the amount of cranking. I worked on it yesterday and had it running off ether for a good 30 seconds with no results.

Really cool and unique tractor there. Doesn't seem like it will take much more to get it to run. Wheatlands are very rare around here in Upstate NY. Used to be a couple dealers that would go to Western Canada and bring some back, but I haven't seen one in a long time. Guess it was bought to just be a tillage tractor with no PTO? Hope to hear it run soon.
@tmonteIH
@tmonteIH 14 күн бұрын
Pull drills and do long tillage was what it spent its life doing. More of them outfitted like this in my area than you’d believe. I need to find someone to rebuild the RD pump before it’ll run again. Unfortunately those pumps are hard to get parts for.
@lyman1965

Just saying that up here in the frozen north an 806 or a 930 with pto still had a lot of value long after being retired from tillage and planting, running a feed mill, a large auger or even a snow blower. The tractor you’re working on today probably would’ve been used until there was nothing left if it had a pto. Anyway I enjoy watching your videos. At least somebody could buy this 806 and use it to plow or cultivate a few acres. If you had a tired 806 with a pto how much would it be to take the necessary parts out the donor to transfer to this less used tractor or would it be too much work?
@StephanDzialo
@StephanDzialo 14 күн бұрын
I wonder if you hooked a chain up and tried pull starting it? Then you could get that 361 spinning higher RPM's. You got the ability to do it being a TA delete, just hopefully the mcv is primed for steering and brakes.
@tmonteIH
@tmonteIH 14 күн бұрын
I messed with it yesterday afternoon running on ether and got nothing. I took the top cover off the pump and it was rusty inside.
@StephanDzialo
@StephanDzialo 14 күн бұрын
@tmonteIH that is quite a oddball with the adjustable wide front, I think the 806 is by far one of the top 5 IH tractors that hold a historical place in IH history. Those D361 engines are known for at 12-15k hrs put new rings in, have the head done and keep going.
@tmonteIH
@tmonteIH 14 күн бұрын
@ you don’t see many optioned with the adjustable front at all. It’s altogether different than the row crop adjustable front too.

I lost a decent amount of hearing on an 806. Our’s had an M&W turbo kit and had 140 pto hp. It pulled a 22’ disk over thousands of acres
@lyman1965
@lyman1965 14 күн бұрын
I can’t get over the number of tractors sold in your region without ptos, I wonder how much of a savings that was. Once a larger tractor was purchased to do tillage those 806s and 930s became pretty useless. It would’ve helped them survive I guess.
@tmonteIH
@tmonteIH 14 күн бұрын
A lot of guys had a smaller tractor for doing PTO work like an M or 450. Didn’t see the need for more than one PTO tractor on the farm. Western KS farmers were and still are notoriously cheap.
