Darren, that membrane is repairable. Back when I was in the Coast Guard as an Aviation Machinist Mate we'd use a liquid rubber compound that was made for rubber fuel bladders. Grumman HU16e Albatross seaplanes (they burned 115 octane gas) and Sikorski HH52A Seaguard amphibious helos both had them If they developed pinhole leaks we'd use it to repair them with a patch on top of the repair. Of course we'd also use it to fix diaphragms on our cars, trucks and motorcycles when we needed to repair them. In those cases we'd smear a thin film of it using plastic spreaders in several thin layers. Worked like a charm. I can't remember the Mil spec number but it's still available last I heard.
@shabear10002 жыл бұрын
Some trailer axles have a grease zert in the end of the spindle for greasing. That cap has the rubber plug so you can just pull the rubber plug off to grease the bearings instead of removing the whole cap. As we all know those caps can sometimes be a pain to put on. It is a great way to keep your bearings and spindles greased because it greases the bearings the same way that a bearing packer does, very efficient and bearings last a lot longer. Another great video musty thanks for sharing.

I've successfully hacked one of these fuel pumps low budget style by making a new solid gasket and placing it on top of the existing diaphragm. Wasn't sure of it working at all until I tried it and low and behold, it worked very well. Now the pump functions perfectly and has no discernible leaks. I used the palm area of a new large size Nitrile glove (you know, the blue rubber gloves ). Make sure it's branded as Nitrile because the vinyl gloves are not gasoline resistant and they will fail over time by flexing and cracking. The Nitrile rubber however has remained soft and flexible to this day (10+ years) so I'm pretty happy. There was no rebuild kit available and a new fuel pump was very very expensive for my old "78 Honda Goldwing

The stupid part of the ethanol thing is that it isn't even environmentally helpful, at least not when made from corn. I watched a whole video on how it causes just as much carbon output with all the refining, machinery required for farming/harvesting ECT. There are many other crops that are but whoever pushed it was in bed with corn people apparently. Sugar cane and hemp are a couple that were mentioned as a better source of ethanol.

Once electric cars get cheaper I’ll be saying the heck with gas powered cars and how the gas is getting for them.
@Hjerte_Verke2 жыл бұрын
Carbon dioxide is plant food, and the whole green energy boondoggle is a scam to control the proles and make investors in green energy richer. At this point, with an active EPA and smog controls on all new cars, the "carbon footprint" of the internal combustion engine is negligible. It's other industrialized countries (china, india, etc) and their factories which are ruining their own air.....and ours to a certain extent.
@johnwiggins59482 жыл бұрын
Bet that Electri ity will be cheap too, once you are hooked on it, with price of nat gas about to double.
@tomclarke64752 жыл бұрын
Ethanol is expensive to make. The whole thing is a scam. You can only use 100% pure alcohol to mix with gas. That requires several stages of distillation. Liquor is expensive because of taxes but also because distillation is not cheap. It gets more expensive the more pure you need the alcohol. The alcohol pulls moisture into the gas as well as damaging certain types of rubber. All this is well documented, but the bureaucrats in Washington are not interested in hearing about it.
@jasonbirch11822 жыл бұрын

@ronmccabe71642 жыл бұрын
Yes. And just to remind people - the stuff in the hose probably has ethanol in it, so run the hose gas into your car before filling your portable tank. I learned this the hard way. Toro had a recall on one of their model snow throwers because the nipple going into the carb was plated with something that deteriorated with water (?zinc?) and would slowly leak once the plating was gone. I wondered why I always smelled gas on my porch, and why the tank always needed filling. I always bought ethanol free gas, but it was from a pump that had ethanol in the other grades!

I'm fairly confident that has more to do with them not wanting ANY foreign debris on the bearing surfaces that could potentially lower the service life of the bearing. Holy bouncing carts, Batman. LMAO, watching you all scrunched up on the shakedown run in that thing. There ain't no room for Robin.

Many kids dreamed about just driving a kart outside of the amusement park, Mustie did it. As silly as it is entertaining. Thanks for sharing.

I'm 74 and thinking damn noisy kids and giggling along with you. Great fun, thanks Mustie.

I had an 1/8th midget racer when I was a kid, and this thing reminds me of it. I can almost smell the gas fumes! Great find, and great job getting it running! I see that you put a kill switch up next to you on the floor. That's a great idea! With ours, we had to reach back and short out the spark plug while driving. Ouch!

I gotta admit, my jaw hit the ground when wire brushing the bearings. Then I remembered the prophetic wisdom from Taryl Dactyl, “We ain’t building no space shuttle!” Cool project!

Your neighbors must be rubbing their eyes thinking they are seeing things. "Did I just see a small batmobile go by ?"
