For some reason I find OHV engines more torquey and tractable than OHC engines. OHC make more overall power and are generally smoother and more fuel efficient, but I've always loved the smooth low down/mid range torque curve of a OHV engine. And they can be much simpler to work on, especially old school engines where you can adjust tappets manually, control the level of valve overlap etc.

OHC engines usually make more Power at highter rpm bcz more air enters into the cylinder With OHV you got less i coming air and more torque at lower rpm = pressing less the pedal while using It in the city = less fuel consumption

well logical choice for power yes, but for a champaign the lower cost and less development time make the single cam great for ordinary cars as cost saving

It would be cool to see a pushrod system vs SOCH/DOCH

How about very undersquare/very oversquare engine?
@lennoxv1010 Жыл бұрын
oh yes undersquare is more efficient and power over oversquare with camshaft profit tune.

please make a showcase on intake manifolds, it seems that race intake is not as good for powerband

Why use VVL when you set the profiles to be practically the same .-. You need more spread between them, like 30 and 60.

sadly, i understand nothing thats happening here... anyone care to explain what both of these engines even do?
@chronos_vnc Жыл бұрын
SOHC and DOHC stands for single and double overhead camshaft. SOHC controls both intake and exhaust valves with one camshaft, while DOHC controls exhaust and intake valves with one individual camshaft.

DOHC and SOHC are two different ways of making the valves on the cylinder open and close. SOHC is a simpler design, not so common on new cars. DOHC theoretically gives the engine more flow and peak power, but has more moving parts, and is heavier
@johnsnowdon2939 Жыл бұрын
@@scoapproductions control of the valves on a typical dohc valvetrain should actually involve less moving parts (since the cams directly actuate the top of the valve, in the common hydraulic bucket/shim arrangement) and less complexity than a 16v sohc (which instead usually has the valves actuated by fingers driven by the camshaft lobes - more moving parts, more surface to wear, more complexity and more parts to break). Of course the dohc simpler valve actuation is offset to some degree by the additional rotational parts (two cams, double the amount of bearings, twice as many surfaces to seal, more complex lubrication requirements) and synchronisation of the two camshaft pulleys (belt, chain, gear drive or whatever). On balance, the dohc valvetrain allows for more flexibility in arranging optimal valve position in the combustion chamber and hence better power with all other things being equal.
