My father was a pilot during WW2, he used TT for "real shooting", defending himself. Also he had an opportunity to compare a lot of german and soviet weapon up to 1967, when retired. He didn't like "short barrels", preferring rifle, SVT with optic, but Stechkin was his favourite, "heavy, accurate, very comfortable for his hand".

Regarding the wooded stock. My grandfather was a Soviet tank gunner in the early 50's. He was issued a Stechkin with a wooden holster/stock, and really didn't like to carry it. It was really easy to hit the edge of the hatch jumping into a tank with the holster (as it bulged out rather awkwardly), cracking and effectively ruining it.

Hi Ian. You made a comment about the plastic stock being of some phenolic material. Bakelite is itself a phenol-formaldehyde product. No doubt different look and feel from whatever phenolic material you were thinking of,but likely not terribly different in basic chemistry. I made Bakelite for a science project in high school. Most phenolics use formaldehyde or similar chemistry to create the basic conditions for crosslinking. I could be wrong,but I believe they are all thermosetting as well. A minor issue but you might be interested in it. Cheers.
@zavoczkihewing6 жыл бұрын
I wanted to make the exact same comment. I'm studying to be a polymer chemist and it bugged me too. I'm glad you made the comment and you are absolutely right. In the 40's through 50's bakelite and its descendants were the go to polymers when it came to injection moulding.
@zavoczkihewing6 жыл бұрын
I might add that in thermosetting polymers was the go to as nylon is not a thermosetting polymer but nylon was also getting heavy industrial use.

@zavoczkihewing6 жыл бұрын
I belive my grammar is off. I wanted to correct my previous comment as i was talking about the major use of bakelite and phenolic resins as a thermosetting polymer in that time period. Nylon and other polymers also saw industrial use a lot but they are not thermosetting polymers specifically. I am not able to remake any weapon part, and i am sorry if i got anyone's hopes up because of my bad phrasing.

I can only agree. Excited to see how it shoots. 9x18 in such a beefy gun, with a rate reducer and all might be pretty controllable. I've heard they're still quite popular with Russian SWAT equivalents.

Does that straw/rose finish on some of the fire control parts confer any benificial properties or is it simply an aesthetic alternative to traditional bluing or other forms of case hardening (that would invariably grant you the boon of Marx and the Red Menace, as well as make it go faster)?

@keith moore Well, Beretta 93r isn't full-auto pistol, it's only semi-auto/burst. Secondly, it is more likely based on Beretta M951R instead of Stechkin.
@CaptainGrief666 жыл бұрын
@keith moore Wouldn't call them shit if half the world uses their guns. Plus, what did Beretta copy? The concept? Because the M93R has very different internals and machine pistols have been around since WWI.

If you're curious as to whether some weird thermoset plastic is phenolic resin based, a tiny scratch in some unobtrusive place will smell like Campho-Phenique antiseptic. It's impossible to mistake it.

Russian Mauser C96 ;)
@ironfelixfromkuban25805 жыл бұрын
In Russia, works at full-auto pistol started in 1900th. In 1908, Mauser C06 and Luger P08 reconstructed to full-auto. There was very fast rate of fire, and very low reability, and this project closed. In 1912 engineer Frolov created full-auto carbine-pistol in 7.62x38R Nagant cartridge. There was 20-round magazine, blowback, rotating-closed system. This model not produced. In 1915 senior workshop of Kuban cossack host, Molokov, projected "light machine gun "Kubanetz"", actually - long-barrel full-auto pistol, based on Mauser C96 ideas. 7.62x38R Nagant cartridge, 33-round magazine. Also, in 1915, engineer Jurlov projected "small machine gun "Jacob"" (I don't know, why "Jacob") - belt-fed modification of Nagant M1895 revolver. In 1929 engineer Tokarev created two heavy pistols in 7.63x25 Mauser, "big" and "small" - but, "small" was a bigger than TT-33 and APS - full-auto, 22-round magazine. ic.pics.livejournal.com/lewhobotov/78447514/4595475/4595475_original.jpg ic.pics.livejournal.com/lewhobotov/78447514/4539997/4539997_original.jpg In early 1930th, engineer, whose name I forgot, projected "pocket DP machine gun", weird full-auto pistol with pan magazine. In 1943 engineer Yazikov created weird pistol/SMG, in 7.62x25. Full weight 2.5 kg, ~1200 rpm. Magazines - standart of PPS SMG 35-round, and short Yazikov 15-round. www.kalashnikov.ru/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/2_web.jpg Also, in 1990th experimented by "reincornation" of APS. Engineer Alexander Shevchenko created pistol, externally identical to the APS, but, with damped automatic, in 6.5x30 experimental cartridge (muzzle velocity 870 mps, energy 900+ Joules, based on long 9x19 case).

Nice. Heard of these in a few novels back in my teens, but have only ever seen 1 or 2 photos. I wonder if there is much velocity gain with that length of barrel. The rate reducer looks like a good design, and certainly necessary. Looking forward to the shooting evaluation. Great video as always. Thank you

@Treblaine6 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see someone try to use those sights out that far. It's not just that the bullet starts slow, it slows down so much more while in flight at an unpredictable rate, with a really big heavy bullet you can consistently lob rounds and with a long sight radius you don't need to as finely adjust nor laser perfect alignment of the sights.

well if you throw 20 round in 2 second at the enemies in 200m, it not gonna be good for stopping power, but surely it have enough suppression effect.
