I carried a revolver on duty for many years. I see two areas for improvement. 1. Your weapon has a reputation for a great double-action pull, use it. It is faster. 2. Get better speed loaders. The turn knob HKS style is cheaper but is also slow. Try the Safariland J-K2C COMP II or it's equivalent for your revolver. It does not rely on gravity to work. It pushes the rounds into the chambers. This means it is faster and you can load at angles an HKS can't. Just use the loader to hold the rounds in the chambers while you close the cylinder.
@mr.pattyd91383 жыл бұрын
I came here to suggest Safariland speedloaders too. Thanks!

I noticed that too. His reloads on the first stage were impeded because he kept his left hand firing grip. No way to hold the cylinder open, and using the non-dexterous hand for the speed loader. On the second stage he used a technique closer to Massad Ayoob’s “stress reload” where he grabs the cylinder with his off hand. That’s what I do when I reload. A proper lefty reload with a revolver can be just as fast, if not faster, than a righty stress reload.

Ian, I want to give you credit for running the .357 for a match like this. My EDC is a compact, polymer-framed .357 (weighs in at 19oz unloaded), as I am frequently in the woods in Northern Wisconsin, with bears and wolves being fairly typical sightings (for city carry I do use .38+p handloads, but same gun, 158gr Hydrashocks are my lead of choice for both my .38 and .357 handloads). For this reason, I do a lot of shooting and speed drills with .357, and as your video demonstrates, speed loading with a revolver is a fair bit slower than even a slow reloading of an automatic. Add the absolute beating you will take shooting that many rounds of .357 rapidly with any size of revolver, and I fully appreciate the feat of endurance you are going through with your choice in handgun. You have my respect.

@genericpersonx3333 жыл бұрын
In fairness, a well-made revolver like the MR73 was still pretty much the most reliable and one of the most accurate pistols possible in 1973, which is why the French chose them for the elite operators. Unlike a bolt-action today where there is no matching even an average semiautomatic with the best bolt-action rifle, an MR73 can put six shots on target just as fast as the average semiautomatic. It is only after those first six shots that it looks inferior. The problem Ian had was that he didn't have the training the original users did. French GIGN put about 150 rounds a day through their MR73s precisely so they never missed. If he had gotten six hits with every load, Ian would have only been a little behind the 9mm high-capacity semiautomatics in actual time.

But still, props for shooting through the competition with your loadout choice.

These matches are military cosplay _specifically_ designed to give people a reason to have an AR platform (or similar) along with a modern high-capacity side arm. @khaelamensha36243 жыл бұрын
Correct but I may add that I used the famas with the bipod all the time. The change of pull on the trigger seems to have been a factor too. I think it's also fair to say that what held him back the most was that he clearly didn't practice much with the weapon combo, the trigger issue is something you'd notice and account for fairly quickly once it was made obvious by some time practicing going from one gun to another. Certainly the combo of fantastic DMR/sniper rifle, a fantastic but unnecessarily powerful revolver and a great assault rifle with a less great trigger isn't an optimal impromptu combination of weapons. =)

HK USP was used (now replaced with Glocks) by Army special forces 1st RPIMa, but with HK 416, HK USP compact is the Navy handgun but Commandos Marine (Navy SF) use Glock 17 or 19 with different rifles but no FAMAS, so if he is going cold war "standard soldier" the MAC 50 would be the only option, with some tuning (fixed sights) it is not too much a handicap with its 9 rounds magazine.

I think he should go full WW2 French Resistance and have someone air drop an FP 45 Liberator to him on the range. He has to shoot and reload the Liberator until he successfully hits, at which time he gets to trade up for a "captured" Walther/Luger and comparable set of German WW2 weaponry for the remainder of the match. In fact, this sounds like a great idea for a themed shooting event, make everyone do it!

@@jg8263 Yes, first stage a Liberator then according to your score next stage with a .32 or a P08, P38, Radom, Browning HP, again according to your score a K98 or a G43, FG42, StG 44...

I love how that rifle, which on paper looks like an oddball, is insanely good. I remember the Ian's video from 2016, and God, did I cheer for that rifle. I also did cheer for the revolver, but hey, one can't have everything.

You did so well on the fitness part of the stages. The psychological part on these stages seems heavy, I bet you could get 100% hits on the revolver if not on the clock and for those previous stages.
