You did exactly the right thing in getting that forklift out of trouble. In my experience people don't understand just how heavy these machines are. generally the counterweight at the rear is either solid cast steel or mostly steel and concrete filled ! The machine (generally) is two thirds as heavy as its lifting capacity unladen. The counterweight normally can be lifted via either cast lifting points or a hole in the counterweight. the entire machine can be lifted off the counterweight and two lift points on the mast, hope that is helpful !

What a pretty truck! It's all lights and computers,like a Japanese gaming arcade! My big old Foden with EKA gear on it has one rotating orange beacon on the cab roof! How things have changed and moved on! No pulling pins and locks any more.

Nice job Ron. Former employer was large industrial complex. Trailer comes In to a warehouse to unload. Forklift went through floor all the way just in front of axles They had to get a crane to lift the trailer up to get the fork truck out!
@RonPratt7 жыл бұрын
I've never seen that, personally. I've seen pictures of that happening. I've had them stuck between the trailer and the dock, because the brakes didn't hold on the trailer. I've had them like this. And I've had them take a nose dive off the dock where there was no trailer, but never had one all the way through the floor. That's one of the cool things about this job, just when you think you've seen it all, you get a call for something new and exciting. Thanks for watching and God bless.
@eileenh47727 жыл бұрын
That's the story I was told Ron, didn't see it personally. Story teller was a mechanic from the fork lift shop. Reminds me of another story, from same guy. Driver of Ford Louisville 10 wheel flatbed had picked up a load of fork trucks from vendor who had pm'ed them. Summer night, went up to corner ice cream stand. Built up area of Rochester NY. Who'd of thought there was a septic tank in the parking lot? Yep, dropped the back end into it!
@rogervoss48777 жыл бұрын
Doesn't have to be a Septic tank, a broken storm sewer box can result in a large hole washed out underground. Backed close to one with a dump truck in an Industrial location once, one set of duals dropped right in with the truck ending up on it's frame - front wheels in the air. Large crane was handy to lift it out, loaded BTW. (Buffalo NY area)

I've been in the warehousing business for 45 years and only ever seen these types of forklift incidents on video., two tonight on your channel. I remember unloading a trailer years ago that was iffy, where I could see daylight between the floor boards. Was an uneasy feeling unloading that one. I used to be a forklift driver on the dock and I had a trailer belly down in the middle with me and my forklift in it. The nose was pointed up in the air and the rear tandom axles were higher than the dock. Looked like a swayback horse with its belly dragging on the ground. Had a hell of a time getting that forklift out of the trailer. Maintenance cut a section of roof out of the trailer roof and the tow truck lifted the forklift out of the box.

We haul forklifts for a local company using our rollbacks and an employee at an electronics warehouse drove off the dock. No injuries and the forklift landed on all fours and broke a rear axle. Blocked up the broken axle and put a skate under and winched it up. Had to be very careful because most forklifts are anywhere from 8,000 to 14,000 lbs so it was crucial while making sure the thing didn't tip over we also had to get it loaded as centered as possible.

Ron Pratt going all the way through could be very deadly for the operator. these people need to get their act together and really inspect these trailer floors every once in a while. Is there no OSHA standards or inspections for these trailer floors?? but common sense should tell the operator of the forklift not to drive a ridiculously heavy piece of equipment into there I think. Nicely done, Ron. Why did you put the client's operator on the lift instead of Talon? Also, what type of external mic do you use? Your audio is really good considering the conditions you film in.
@RonPratt7 жыл бұрын
I wanted someone that was familiar with the controls on that particular lift. And I'm using a Pannovo external microphone. They are about $20-25, but they aren't very sturdy. Good sound, though. I think I'm on my third mic right now. They get banged around a lot, so I can't complain.

Ron Pratt, forgive me if this has been asked before... I'm curious if you specially optioned that truck with that LCD control panel, and do you like it? I love fancy controls as much(more) as the next guy but it seems a bit less 'direct' than a bank of mechanical switches - moving through multiple screens just to turn your floodlights on for instance. I'd love to know what the specific benefits are with the system to justify the complexity and cost. I'm sure having electronic control may have some safety benefits but the computer could also be operated from old fashioned switches vs. the touchscreen (I hate touchscreens, my phone included). Regardless, that is a sweet rig and you do great work.
@RonPratt7 жыл бұрын
The only way to get the Raptor control systems with the safety warnings and load screens is to order with this configuration, so yes, we did order it specifically with this control system. We felt it safer than the switch and lever controls that do not have load sensing and warning systems. Thanks for watching and God bless.

Slimjimtheman98 free spoiling the winches to get line out faster by disengaging the drive part of the winch. it saves time. if you were to free spool while the line was under tension it would be a disaster, thus the need to confirm is my guess
