Teaching Talon and reassuring a shaky driver ! Not the first time i've seen you tell someone that nobody,s perfect ! Notice that when some body gets down on themselves , you're the first to talk to them and reassure them !! Good on ya Mr. Ron !!

Love the way that you are a witness for Jesus ie nobody is perfect except one and the driver said I know who that is. Too bad the driver was using language that wasn't fit for public display. Wow, I am humbled by your comments and I thank you very much. I don't know about how much of an honor it is, but I do want our crew to have each other's backs and feel that they can depend on me to be out there with them. I have learned over the years that if I can remain calm, then most of the time others do as well. I may take things a little slower than some at times, but evaluating the job accurately yields more success and less mistakes. Thanks again so much for your kindness. God bless.

I love that no matter how wide the driveway is for them to turn, there is always one who will cut it short. Similar happened out on my place, the road was 50 feet at the highway, but trucks kept cutting short so we widened it to 120 feet and they STILL cut it short. The problem was solved by concreting 4 inch casing pipe on each side 120 feet apart and sure as heck, someone cut it short and got the trailer hung up on the pipe. Of course we didn't have a nice tow truck like yours, or any tow truck for that matter so the driver had to wait 4 hours for one to come from another job to fetch him off of the pipe. The trailer was pretty much a wreck though. After that day, no one cut short on the driveway ever again.

Great thinking Talon on the Brakes being set!!! I know of a wrecker, close to me, that rolled over, due to the operator not making sure the brakes were set when he uprighted the truck. My hats off to you Mr Ron for teaching Talon! Most folks don’t get that opportunity to learn to run a rig like that. I’ve been as fortunate as Talon. A very good friend of mine owns a towing company in northeast Arkansas and he took me “under his wing” and taught me towing and recovery with stick boom and rotator. I help him on a part-time basis. Been doing it for about 6 years now. I’ve gained a great deal in that time. God Bless you and your Team! Stay Safe Brother!

It's always good to learn and teach. This morning I came across a car full of teens trying to figure out how to change a tire. Sadly the jack and such included with the new vehicles are subpar at their best. I brought my pickup over with a little hydraulic floor jack and a four way and talked one of the boys through doing it all. It wasn't much and took a little of my time but it was much better than allowing someone so young to get hurt because they don't know what they are doing and possibly end up having their life change forever due to an injury. When it was all done and we shook hands and he thanked me I said it was no problem. I told him that hopefully they all learned something and he has now gained a skill that he can later on teach someone else or his own son or daughter.

After 25 years OTR and having seen and observed recovery on many a truck go bump. AND helping out with same on fire department at home. It still unnerves me to see how you guys are willing to get so up close and personal with those cables as you do heavy lifts. I was taught in the coal mines to NEVER be within easy reach of that load bearing cable when it suddenly decides to part ways with ya. I have a steel U.S. Gov. hardhat with a crease down the right side from a cable parting on a curtis wright pan I was pulling behind a MD830 rubber tired articulated dozer. I have an inherently dangerous job, which requires me to be in, oftentimes, deadly situations. The best I can do is minimize my risk. Part of that is making certain that my equipment and all rigging components are well maintained. Another part is making certain that I know the load values on each part of the rigging and that I keep the rigging within safe WLLs (Working Load Limits). And, of course, the all important, Situational Awareness. There are many, many other things involved as well. I suppose I have become accustomed to placing myself in harm's way in order to help others. As I said, the best I can do is minimize my risk......and Pray. Thanks for watching and God bless.
@billybracewell28937 жыл бұрын
Yes. I DO understand. I don't think I have ever had a job that wasn't life risking in some fashion. From Military special teams to working in a supermax prison as a law enforcement officer and hand to hand combat instructor to my fellow officers just so we could come out on top. (back well before cameras and off site monitoring etc...) To street law enforcement. All the while a Volunteer EMT/Paramedic-Firefighter. Volunteer Firefighter since 10th grade. AND the topper, driving OTR truck moving nuclear munitions, ammo, explosives, liquid ethyl methyl bad stuff that nobody else would haul... you get the point. YEP. Racked up a LOT of premiums paid on that knee pad insurance policy myself. My hat is still off to ya though. And may God bless you and yours as well...

Excellent training experience. Do you have a check list for Talon or other future operators to use? I'm just picking up on your comments, items like, outriggers out, tractor and trailer brakes applied, watch the load screen, keep the boom centered above the doors, etc. This also shows that with the experience that you have, you make every recovery look so easy. This shows how a trainee really has to pull from all the times that they have watched you to remember what to do. I wonder if Talon felt a little intimidated knowing that 20,000 people may watch this? He did a fine job. I've never been a recovery operator nor doubt that I ever will be I tell friends that "I'm taking an on line course to learn to be a towing and recovery operator". Your videos are better than any class room or operators manual. With the massive growth in subscribers in the last 4 months, a lot of others must agree. Keep up the good work and family friendly video's

I feel like one of the better lessons that driver could come out of this situation with is the he isn't "better than that". Hi Ron - teaching is never easy. You want to jump in...and it is so hard not to do so... My father always used to say that I should "give my students almost enough rope to hang themselves." This was his way of saying what you said in the video that there are lessons that you've just got to learn on your own. Thankfully, Talon in this case has you to look over his shoulder so that he can't go too far wrong...but can learn those lessons that one can only learn on their own. :) I enjoy how you keep it family friendly...how you are always 110% professional...and how you treat people with the utmost respect. Looking forward to seeing more videos - I really enjoy watching them. Thanks much and God bless you and your crew as well!

Also that travel feature you have on the carrier has to be a huge time saver in that you didn't have to stop and move the crane. That's pretty awesome. Good also to see he listens to you. Great video. I like to see young ones that want to learn! It's all about the right attitude. Just like the driver, he was sorry and we could tell he had the right attitude about the whole thing. One comment for you as a teacher is to see if you can get the trainee to verbalize his thoughts and intentions in the experience. Sometimes mistakes are made in the thinking process and then they, and you, can be aware of it before it becomes an action. Good job to all!

Yes, the driver knew he made a mistake and he "owned" it. That is all anyone can do, because we all make mistakes. Owning your mistake and learning from it is the best possible outcome. What upsets me is when someone doesn't accept responsibility for something they did. I have videos where that has been the case and I usually keep quiet and do my job. But with this driver, it was a pleasure to help him and I can guess that he won't make that mistake again. He was already beating himself up about it. Thanks and God bless.

Great video. It was interesting seeing Talon in control and doing well. Having your expertise enabled him to learn more in that one 'live' situation than a dozen training sessions. Of course both are necessary but his confidence grew by leap & bounds on this one service call. I admire your honesty re how it is difficult to not be more involved and that you actually asked if Talon wanted your advice. And I respect Talon's response, he recognizes your expertise and he was focused on learning - not his ego - and he welcomed your input. Who knows, vacation time may be on your near future.

Very refreshing video after the last driver. As a former driver before I went to the dark side (Sergeant in a sheriff's department...lol), I had one of these myself. As you state, it happens. And, in a few more years before I retire, I probably will misjudge on my 5th wheel RV. If I do, I pray I meet a recovery driver like yall. I especially liked the phrase "git er done" haha. Ron, I'm 20 minutes into this video, and have some observations. Talon isn't sure of himself, and hasn't got enough experience-hands on RESPONSIBILITY to know what to look for yet. YOU have the same problem most of us perfectionists have - we can't give up control. For starters, do both yourselves a favor and teach Talon to LEARN HOW HE LEARNS. For both of you, it will be the most direct avenue to success for both of you. DONT RUSH THE PROCESS. You always say it in your videos, now it's time to practice it. Last but not least, disengage all familiarity with Talon so nothing is overlooked. You are a GREAT TEACHER. Give me 2 more weeks with these videos and I could make you proud!! Teach Talon the thought process and why. The ultimate answer is to keep him safe while operating the equipment, and more importantly to keep from damaging the customer property. Good luck to you both, and I'll say a prayer for you both to stay safe and succeed from this point forward. Edit Final 10 minutes viewed..... I'll bet my last dime Talon is a cerebral learner right now. It shows in what he's paying attention to in the video. His face is down more than it should. Ok Ron! Time to teach this boy how to learn with his eyes and ears. Teach him how and why you are CONSTANTLY scanning the playing field. And teach him what the playing field is. PERFECTIONIST OFF. Sorry Ron and Talon. It's just that watching you two work together brings back memories of when I started working (learning) and when I got proficient at my job that I went from being Talon to being Ron. My heart goes out to both of you!! Be safe. Be strong. Be sure.

Another good video Ron. Surprised for using the boom you didn't automatically put the outriggers out. Maybe not always needed but I would use them any time I was using that boom extended just in case.

One of the best qualities of a teacher is knowing one's own weaknesses... like a tendency to instruct when not needed ;-) I often have to shut my mouth to avoid doing that....

Yeah, I recognize it, but I'm struggling to keep my mouth shut. I am so used to doing a job by myself that it is also difficult to let go of the reigns.

Big Kudos to Talon and to his Father for teaching him a future vocation !!

I love that you say "I'll do the rigging" like you don't do a lot of it normally
