@overdogsonly Жыл бұрын
@@meloveAi There's a difference between a thing, and thinking about a thing. For example, humans have no inherent value, but thinking about ethics can provide us with a meaningful way to think about how to interact with others. @meloveAi

@@overdogsonly If such is the case, then Liev has still contradicted? Because should the correct statement be the thought of religion and not religion itself? Or is it not just agreements and compromises as to our treatment of each other, regardless of our inherent value?
@overdogsonly
@overdogsonly Жыл бұрын
@@meloveAi Ok so 1) I'm simply defining religion in this case as "thinking about God." So no I don't think it's a contradiction to say that thinking about God is separate from the actual entity God. Think of an atheist theologian to demonstrate the difference. 2) I think that "inherent value" is actually an oxymoron (I think I may have even gotten that from Mr. Dillahunty) because all value is basically a negotiation between parties. Even my own self-worth is negotiated by my conflicting internal desires in a way.

Unfortunately for the atheist humanist and anybody around them is there garbage philosophy of do as thou Wilt and the ends justify the means hasn't worked out too well. Outside of atheistic Communist governments AKA Communist governments like North Korea the next largest representation for atheism and it's humanism is the LGBT community. Not exactly a beacon of Hope. Highest AIDS rate. Highest homelessness and drug use. Highest mental illness and suicide. It's number of people who were both victims and victimizers about child and adult rape. And let's not forget the newest addition to the cult severely mutilated children because of gender faith. Every atheistic communist government without exception has been communist. The killed more of their own citizens in the last century than all of the civilizations combined since written word. And this doesn't include the countless forced abortions on women. Meanwhile Christians created modern Western Civilization the greatest civilization in the history of mankind We've given women more rights than any other philosophy by far. Not even easiest one to live under their Godless Utopias they'd rather live under what Christians created and that's modern Western Civilization.

I think it's more important that it seems he was not a skeptic. I can see someone without skeptical critical thinking skills vascillating between believing and not believing in gods. _My_ problem with apologists who try using that as an evangelizing technique is when they try to claim they were "just like you". They weren't, and aren't, because they're not skeptics.

This guy was never an atheist, not a convinced one anyway. He said his parents were atheists and he picked it up while growing up and it stuck with him, sortof like a family tradition. He also said in search of meaning he's finding out theism makes more sense which further prives my point that he wasn't really a convinced atheist because a convinced atheist would know that theism would never make more sense intellectually, only emotionally.

I think this is what happens when you reason things through in your own head and don't have good critical thinking skills to "test" the robustness of your thoughts, it often falls apart when you start trying to explain it to someone else (which is one good way to test your thoughts). Just gets a bit embarrassing when you do that on a live call in show that records you for all of history....

The same place we came from… why is it so hard to accept.. it’s that damn simple.. the only reason it feels like you have a purpose is because now that we don’t have to fight our existence like we did in the early stages of human development, we have the time to sit down and contemplate having a place in the universe..

Years back, the guy I was working for said to me, "have you ever listened to Jordan peterson? He's really smart like you and uses lots of words that are too complicated for me to understand but I reckon you'd be able to follow what he says.." So I listened to a Jordan peterson video that afternoon, and realised instantly that he isn't actually saying anything. Just lots of complicated phrasing to confuse listeners and give the impression of intelligence. Word salad at its finest. The next day I went in to work and told him not to bother listening to Jordan peterson.

I don’t care what people think as long as it does not hurt others, but it amazes me that people actually think there is a god considering god was a way to control using fear and fleece it’s parishioners. It’s also funny how people that don’t believe in god don’t care what others think, but so many so called Christian’s get mad at people that don’t believe in a ghost.

It's not easy to debate an atheist Because atheist have a disbelief in God AKA an unwillingness or inability to accept God is true. But on top of this they don't even believe the origins of I came into existence without God. So you debating a person who couldn't or wouldn't accept God as true even if God was proven by the scientific method but yet that person doesn't believe the origins of Life came into existence without God. It's not like Matt is going to debate the results of modern Western Civilization AKA Christian civilization versus the result of atheistic human civilization AKA communism.

Alright, let's write it down: "What i think god is, is an emerging process from the dynamic interactions of all the different systems in the universe". Cool. Now, i'm italian, and here we have a special word to describe what he did there, and the word is "Supercazzola" 😂😂😂 Basically what it is, is an uncomprehensible, meaningless word salad, made up to confuse the interlocutor and make him think you're saying something, when you're actually saying absolutely nothing. That's what he did there: a big fat Supercazzola! 😂
@donnievance1942
@donnievance1942 Жыл бұрын
I agree that the guy is a vague, mushy thinker, but if you look at what he said, it is entirely parallel to the way materialist philosophers try to "explain" consciousness in the organism: "Consciousness is an emergent property arising from the dynamic interactions of all the different systems of the brain." I think that both those statements are nonsense. (But please don't leap to the conclusion that I'm a dualist or vitalist; I'm not.) Emergent properties are behaviors-- they don't necessarily entail the concept of consciousness at all. A thermostatically controlled heating system has at least one emergent property: it keeps a house at a relatively stable temperature. But there is no inherent reason that we should attribute consciousness to the system. And there is no inherent reason that we should accept Liev's idea that the dynamic interactions of the different systems of universe give rise to an emergent consciousness we would call "God," or that the dynamic interactions of the systems of the brain are the explanation of consciousness. The emergent properties of the brain may entail computation or intellection, but that is not synonymous with consciousness. My own ideas about consciousness are too involved for me to have the patience to go into here, but I just wanted to point out that both statements I mentioned are equally woo-woo nonsense.

The character's name is "Raffaello Mascetti", and he's real legendary here in Italy, along with the movie trilogy "Amici Miei" 😉

On the caller’s opening comment: “Oh sorry I may have to hang up on you suddenly because I’m taking care of my daughter and her attention is more important than yours,” and the host’s response that that’s fair, I have a comment: The caller seems silly and selfish and needs to be taught manners. Where were your parents all your life? They didn’t teach you manners? I have more than one daughter and I take care of both of them even while I’m working and yet I never need to tell up front to the people I’m speaking to that I may hang up on them because other people are more important than them, that would be rude, boorish, stupid and weird. Seems the Bible, in this case I guess the Old Testament, is not a good help in guiding people toward being good people. Also, as I was writing this text, I wasn’t listening

This sounds much like the argument my confirmation instructor was giving for the existence of God - the meaning of life rests in the Knowledge of Truth and the Action of Good (he was a Jesuit theologian preparing for his first university appointment and had read a lot of Neo-Thomistic literature). When I asked him to explain what that meant (hello there, Matt!) he started professing to his own wonder at existence and joy of breathing, essentially. Maybe that was the moment when I realized that the religious stuff was just too vague for my brain.
