While it is true that Botswana has seen a big shift in leadership, the credit for this change belongs to the people of Botswana, who made their voices heard through their vote and collective will. It is disingenuous for any former leader, especially one associated with a legacy of corruption and authoritarian rule, to claim responsibility for the removal of the current regime. Botswana’s citizens deserve the recognition for driving this change, as they have shown resilience and clarity about the future they envision for their country. This approach maintains the focus on the people while firmly countering any attempts by former leaders to co-opt the narrative.

These interviews have Ian's allies written all over them. Ian is allied to the Motsepes, and its evident that there is a push to make him seem like the hero who came and saved the day even though his influence was minimal (effective in his chieftain village only). Its appalling that despite the grand regime change between BDP (Masisi) and UDC (Boko); SABC choses to go over newsworthy Masisi/Boko and constantly shines the spotlight on to Khama. It shows the bias and trickery that is in this alliance. SABC is captured.

With due respect to Batswana that is very very far from the truth. Botswana is still struggling with basics. I gave a young Doctor who just qualified in Australia. You may want to name your basics for better contextualisation. The last 5 years have been the worst in the history of Botswana, and we remain hopeful that this change in leadership will be the solution we have been praying for.

When Botswana gained independence in 1966 it was the second poorest country in the world with less than 10km of tarred/paved road. Next time before you give your opinion, understand the context please.
@josephshonga17815 күн бұрын
That sounds like a longtime ago, For one Botswana now has a medical school and a lot has been done for a country that inherited a kilometers of road networks. And from the time you last visited Botswanas' HDI is a high of 0.708, at 114th in the world. You can't compare your infrastructure to that of Botswana, a country that at the time of independence was even ruled from Mafikeng in South Africa. So baba, the British left us nothing and for a longtime for Batswana to say they are going to look for a job, they meant going "ko dimaining" in South Africa. So the "little" you saw is a lot for us as we were dirt poor at independence.

@@onalennaoratile3070 Didn't mean to offend. I travelled to ur country several times, last time 2010. That's precisely my point, BDP in power for 58 yrs and Medical school in under 10 yrs. In 2010 Botswana had more foreign currency reserves than S.A. Wouldn't that surprise anyone visiting ur country? U are diffending BDP's failure. Bako is a Harvard graduate and lectured @ University of Botswana, remember the controversy when he declared the staff @ the university useless? Be serious flushing toilets is not a measure of success.

@@josephshonga178 Thanks. My apologies if it sounded like i am comparing the two countries.I was merely judging Ian Khama and his BDP. ANC inherited an advanced economy on the continent, we shouldn't b where we are today. Liberation movements misruled Africa. I travelled to Maun, the gateway into the breath taking Okavango delta, Kasane on the Chobe river and Transkalahary highway to Namibia.

Khama giving himself way too much credit, he perhaps influenced those in his region of chieftaincy. But for some of us we have been yearning for regime change since 2014 during his reign, as he was going on his 2nd term. We the people made that change and would have still done it with him on exile

Why does the guy always have to report to the South African news channels? More importantly, why don't they ask him serious questions? He likes to be the main man. The two smart educated leaders should also hold him accountable. He thinks he is free. I see him trying to dodge bullets by playing the role of Kgosi Kgolo. He believes he will be protected by the people when found guilty. Zuma strategy, Batswana are smarter than that.
