Mr. Mulroney stopped at a Costco store on the south end of our city a year or so back, while passing through central Alberta. He bought a soda and a hotdog. When asked if he was the former PM, he replied quietly: "I am". He was gracious with the staff. Posed for a couple of pics, then added "not too many places a guy can grab lunch for $1.50". With that, he hopped back into his rental car & headed off to Edmonton for a meeting.

Good men are seeming to lack in this day and age. Reagan was a good man, Bush like him or not was a good man. Politics aside, anyone who loses a parent is feeling terrible pain, and I sympathize George W. Bush, though I did not always agree with him.

As a Canadian, I hated Brian Mulroney because he was the leader of the party I didn't vote for. Today, I support the party Mulroney led, and I wish he was back in office. As for the eulogy he gave President George Bush, those were the nicest things I ever heard him say. As for President Bush, rest well Sir. you made the world a better place.

@aberas Good points and well said aberas. I am very concerned about Scheer's policy on guns. He wants to take firearm classification out of the hands of the RCMP and place it with an "ombudsman", a civil servant hired by his party. You watch the gun lobby and dollars flow then and we know where. The RCMP versus a political hack? Not good at all. As an aside, the Mulroneys lived across the street from my father's family in Baie Comeau. Brian's father Ben and my grandfather had an electrician's business together. Brian was their helper and once told my grandfather that he'd be Prime Minister one day. 😊

The last lines of his speech as I see it was the ultimate jab at The Great Pumpkin, as he seems to like making enemies of allies. He gave a great speech, really caused one to perhaps have a new perspective on the life of Pres. Bush. Btw, Mulroney, when he was PM of Canada, was integral to the fight to free Nelson Mandela. He refused to be stopped in that lonely fight, it says a lot about character, so I can understand why he and Pres. Bush both understood the importance of character.

I was never really a fan a George Bush, but I do believe that whether his policies were right or wrong, they were something that he thought was for the good of his country. And while not all will agree, he did keep the Office of the President respected, not only in the US, but in the world. Mr Mulroney's words, sadly, will never describe the man now holding the office his predecessors worked hard to keep respected in the world.

Well deserved praise for a noble American President. We Canadians are much more aware of US politics than the other way round, and for good reason of course. I distinctly remember President Bush (41) as very warm to Canada and assuring in his abilities on the global stage. While not much of a Mulroney fan, I was looking forward to his eulogy, and I believe he reflects well the respect and gratitude we Canadians feel for President H. W. Bush. God Bless America

Thank you Brian for making us Canadians proud. You remind us what leaders do when elected to leadership positions and how true leaders work for the betterment of all. What a contrast that when you have the Saudi's booking 500 rooms at the Trump hotel to courier favour with the President. I wonder what Trump would have done if he was negotiating a hotel in Baghdad when Saddam invaded Kuwait? He would sell out friends in allies to make a dollar. I pray for America that the will come through this and return to their leadership in the free world. God bless America.
