The media is to blame for the controversy. True fans just want the speaking to be done on the court.

I find it rather odd that all of these "celebrities" (of whatever: players, owners, reporters, etc.) when sharing their opinions about Clark never seem to mention ALL of the records she broke in her rookie season, and when you do a deep dive into her rookie season stats, in some catagories she was so far ahead of any female player in the W, that the only comparisions come from male players in the NBA, and in a few instantances she was up there with ONLY two: Oscar Robinson and Magic Johnson, so to say that Clark isn't the "best player" in the W when a SERIOUS deep dive is done is just based on personal opinions, personal bias, etc. So besides Clark's outstanding play on the court, the on court "IT" factor, her appeal is so wide spread outside Basketball because of her HUGE off the court "IT" factor. And what is going to happen this next season when she's had the whole off season to recoup and train? Let's face reality, the contest is OVER for all the current players in the W, and I'm not sure any of the current "hot shots" in the College game are going to have BOTH those qualities when in comes to being HUGE GLOBAL DRAW.

Agreed,the root is basketball skills. The media has hyped all this off court drama. I only care about on court play that's it.

It's true: some ppl have IT and other ppl don't have IT. CC has IT. Aja does not have IT. Whatever IT is: charisma, magnetism, (often, sex appeal), spirit, persona. IT is a subjective, intangible "thing" that makes a plain-looking person attractive, noticeable, and pleasant to be around. IT is more than mere popularity. It is like being Babe Ruth -- everyone knows who Babe Ruth is, after like 100 years.

A’ja has an arrogance that turns people off. Clark plays like Larry Bird combined with Steph Curry. Outright entertaining!
@natellareal
@natellareal 6 күн бұрын
Not just arrogance, she is a worse bad mouth than even Angel Reese and Diana Taurasi, just A`ja is smarter and does it when no one watching and listening. She is a bully in her own team, which was a reason the other Aces' star Kelsey Plum is in trading process now.

South Carolina players are taught to wait their turn due to the inordinate amount of talent they stockpile. Wilson seems to be looking for justification (right or wrong) it's her turn...yet new fans don't work that way. Many other players and owners agree the fans should act according to their expectations also. Wilson is a great player, but the I have arrived aura isn't captivating.

Agree. A’ja is a great efficient player but has no “It” factor.
@chrisstrawn3396

The "IT" factor is exactly that, it's shown in the ratings and Jersey sales. MJ had it, CC has it. It's very rare to have at that level.
@garymarks5044
@garymarks5044 6 күн бұрын
CC has a more multidimensional game than Aja contributing to the "it" factor. CC is more exciting to watch: team leadership, passing, shooting, enthusiasm, emotion, and feistiness.

That will stop once she stops pretending to be a ball player. Only because the will cabbage onto someone else’s name. I’ll also bet $5 that Reese uses pregnancy as her excuse for leaving the league, and not returning.

I'm not a sports fan (I've never watched a full basketball game), but what I saw was someone having fun, like when we were kids enjoying whatever we were good at. I've seen a full game now, and my granddaughters are both sports enthusiasts. That's the lesson I want them to learn.

The problem I have with we Black people is that our own women don’t support the WNBA nowhere near as much as the Black men supporting the league. Yet we complain about anything and everything the most. Truth be told, Black women support for the WNBA should thur the roof especially with all of the complaints about every single thing,Right??? We all need to excepting of one another no matter what race creed or ethnicity. I don’t agree it’s not a racial thing it’s a preference thing in my opinion. Stop the wokeness please.

Same thing with gender pay gap argument. If all women in the country supported WNBA, players would be earning tens of millions. For whatever reason we as a society as stop teaching the concept that having clean and positive image is marketable.

Far too much attention and credence is granted to the relatively small minority audience that inhabits social media. These people thrive on fabricated controversy. Fans know what "it" is. Caitlin has it. Everyone else in the WNBA doesn't. No amount of whining, finger-pointing, hateful controversy will ever change that. I could personally care less what people post on social media. I just love watching her play and admire what a good, genuine, classy person she is off the court. That's "it" for me.

I disagree about the bigs. Before the three point shot, Wilt Chamberlain was the biggest star in basketball. You could not win without a big to slow him down. Basketball centered around the centers. There was Chamberlain, Russell, Reed, Kareem and Bill Walton. You could not win without one. CC is redefining the point guard as the most dominant position in basketball. Every defense spends extra resources on CC. She stretches defenses with her shooting, and that opens up assists. The most hyped college women - Paige, Flau'jah, Hannah, JuJu are all point guards. CC's offcourt persona of tomboy/girl-next-door makes her relatable. That is the secret.

The interview component is also huge. CC is humble, is never the victim, and always references the team and women’s sports in general. Aja is more focused on herself and being a victim.

i wonder if someone can explain to how you can compare a small forward to a point guard. it makes no sense to me. I will always pick the PG as the "best" due to their control on the court. A forward would have to be twice as dominant in their role to be the best, but maybe that just me that thinks like that.

The argument he made that was wrong is not about Curry. It was mentioning Reese. Sure, she has a few fans of her own, but they did nothing for the WNBA. There was no rivalry. His bit about Aja being the best is also showing his had a bit, because it’s not that clear cut in regards to her greatness. He is right about her marketability, though.

CC is a point guard with great handles, She is expected to be a ball handler + playmaker + deep shop. For Aja to be good, sh is a big, so what. ONe big that stands out is SHAQ, he capitavited me with his slam dunks and shattering the back boards. So for Aja to stand out, she has to dunk, behind the back, in front, twisties etc. Two different player, two different skill sets. BTW kids like the ball handler more, cause they are short, and want to play like the steph curries or CC. They don't have the size to play like Shaq until later when the grow

Clark displays the fundamentally beautiful parts of basketball that people are starving for in today’s world. Nobody cares about the game above the rim anymore. They want to see smart, skilled players who are great consistent shooters. That’s why the Women’s game appeals to both women and men.
