Former president Donald Trump doesn't testify as defence rests in criminal trial | BBC News

Donald Trump will not testify in his historic criminal trial, after his defence team rested their case on Tuesday.
It will be up to his lawyers to speak for him instead as they deliver closing statements next week.
Meanwhile the Trump campaign has deleted a video posted to the former president's Truth Social account, which referenced a "unified Reich", with a spokeswoman saying it was posted by a junior staff member.
The 30-second clip outlined a vision of the US under Mr Trump through stylised headlines, one of which used a term now often associated with Nazi Germany.

No lawyer worth his salt would allow his client to give evidence on his own behalf in this case. Those who think he's a 'coward' don't understand the burden of proof. No mention on the BBC on how this trial came about at this particular time. No mention on how the DA ran for office on 'getting Trump on something', or how he shoe-horned a time barred misdemeanor into a felony (something that has never been done in New York before). No mention on how the DA's office repeatedly refused to prosecute the case in the past - ditto for the FDA. No mention on why or how the third person in charge at Biden's DoJ stepped down about 10 rungs in the hierarchy to personally prosecute the case. No mention on how the Judge's daughter is a fundraiser for Biden/Harris, or that he is a donor. No mention on how the Judge shouted at a defence witness because he was 'looking at' him in a way he didn't like. No mention on how he would not allow the defence team to cal their expert from the FDA on why the offence charged is not a crime. No mention on how even legal analysts on the Left found this case to be sorely wanting - with some like Harvard Professor Alan Derschowitz saying the whole thing was a disgrace and shameful - and he is a Democrat.
